Schema Address Question
-
I have a local business with a contact page that I want to add schema markup to. However, I was wondering if having the address with schema info on the contact page instead of the home page has any adverse effects on the rich snippet showing up in search.
There's no logical place to add schema for a local business on the home page, so having it on the contact page—not in the footer or sidebar—is the only option.

Hi Dan, So glad to help. Do hang onto the idea of putting schema encoded NAP in your footer - it's kind of Local SEO 101 to do so. If, for some reason, it would be easier to put it up in your masthead or in a sitewide nav bar, that would be a good substitute.

Thanks for reply, Miriam. I'm glad to know it doesn't have to be on the home page. It's possible for me to put it in the footer, but it would be more hassle than it's worth, so I wanted to make it clear for answering purposes that I didn't want to do that.

Hi Dan, Rich snippets come and go in the SERPs, so I don't have a simple answer to that, but it is definitely a best Local SEO practice to add your complete NAP (name, address, phone number) as the very first thing on a Contact Us page. You do not have to have it on your home page. This will not hurt you in any way. In addition to this, it's a good idea to place the same in your footer, sitewide, but you seem to be indicating that you have no way to do this. Why are you unable to do so? I'm curious.

Meta Data Question
Hi There, I am working on the umbraco CMS and we have a Menu page which sits under one page on the CMS. When accessing this page on the front end and navigating between the food menu / drinks menu, the url changes depending on which content you are on, however i have only one place to input a meta title and description meaning that it is seeing them as duplicate content as both the drinks menu url and food menu url are showing the same meta data. Hopefully this makes sense, does anyone have anything similair where a url change happens when content within the page changes.

Question re: spammy internal links on site
Hi all, I have a blog (managed via WordPress) that seems to have built spammy internal links that were not created by us on our end. See "site:blog.execu-search.com" in Google search results. It seems to be a pharma-hack that's creating spammy links on our blog to random offers re: viagra, paxil, xenical, etc. When viewing "Security Issues", GSC doesn't state that the site has been infected and it seems like the site is in good health according to Google. Will anyone be able to provide any insight on the best necessary steps to take to remove these links and to run a check on my blog to see if it is in fact infected? Should all spammy internal links by disavowed? Here are a couple of my findings: When looking at "internal links" in GSC, I see a few mentions of these spammy links. When running a site crawl in Moz, I don't see any mention of these spammy links. The spammy links are leading to a 404 page. However, it appears some of the cached version in Google are still displaying the page. Please lmk. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks all! Best,

H1 Tags the same as Title Tags and other meta questions
I run an ecom store that has about 800 live products. When everything got set up, no one set up the title tags correctly. So I am going through to update them in bulk. What I was going to do was to take the product name (which serves as the H1 tag), use that with a postfix | CompanyName. If length is an issue I trim it down. But the question is, will having essentially duplicate information in here be an issue? Also, when someone was setting up meta descriptions, they often used basically the product name or a half sentence. Would it be better to remove the descriptions and allow google to decide? I even had some that were literally just the brand name of the product, which I already removed.

Header Tag Question
While reviewing code on a site, I found the following: <h1 class="<a class="attribute-value">logo</a>"> <a id="<a class="attribute-value">logo</a>" href="[http://siteexampleh1.com](view-source:http://dmbinc.com/)"><span>Example of most important content on this page- Companyspan>a> h1> Is this the correct way to place code for an h1 tag? The content is cached within the page and is hidden to the viewer. The content that is assigned as the h1, is a logo. Majority of code I have been reviewing does not use this setup. The code would instead read as ( This is heading 1 ). Can anyone provide insights on this? Thanks!

The Ultimate Question
This is probably going to look bad, but Im going to do it anyway. Ive owned my own business for over twenty five years. Due to the economy and a health crisis, my business has come to an end. Im left pretty much with nothing except my family, which is on shakey grounds as well. anyway. Ive been working on the IM, SEO thing for about two years. Ive made some money, but nothing that would make a difference to my situation. I now have a site in a competitive niche. The site is rated A by the app here on seomoz. But my site is lacking in authority backlinks. I write my own posts, about two a day, and honestly, it is of much better quality than those ranking . My site stays right around #11. Every other day, the site goes to #7 or 8. When that happens, I make between 300-400 a day. Then it falls back to 11. So the on site is good, rated A here. My site is speedy Not enough backlinks The content is good I was foolish enough to believe the G story about backlinks not being important. Concentrate on the content. All of that crapola. The sites that are ranking well have all the typical xrumer links. Totally not related links. Junk. And from what Ive seen, I believe the sites ranking 1-3 are making about $1000. a day. So you can imagine what being this close, after losing so much is doing to me. So.... Right now I am just writing content, pinging, social bookmarking and submitting rss feeds daily. Does anyone have any real information on how to bump my site up in rankings. Please, no stories about guest blogging, or attempts to sell me your SEO service I know I would do it for someone else and I have many times in the past. If you can help me, please reread, and contact me. I wish you all the best. Sorry for the melodrama.

Schema for Services
There are many schemas for products, but I don't see any for services. They have intangible offers, but it's still for selling a product. I contacted Schema.org an no response. Here is the schema: http://schema.org/Offer So my question for someone who sells a service: What is the schema for a service like insurance, shipping, financial services?

Are different IP addresses enough for sites with similar content?
Hi all We're looking at moving our 2 websites onto a cloud hosting package. The content on our sites is very similar (but not duplicated) so at the moment they are on separate servers. If we move to the cloud, is it enough for them to have different IP addresses on the same cloud system, or should we host in separate clouds? Thanks in advance Heather

Robots.txt file question? NEver seen this command before
Hey Everyone! Perhaps someone can help me. I came across this command in the robots.txt file of our Canadian corporate domain. I looked around online but can't seem to find a definitive answer (slightly relevant). the command line is as follows: Disallow: /*?* I'm guessing this might have something to do with blocking php string searches on the site?. It might also have something to do with blocking sub-domains, but the "?" mark puzzles me 😞 Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rob
