Content Strategy - High Value on Lots of Sites vs. High Value on One Site
-
Good afternoon Mozzers.
I have a discussion based question and I'd be interested to know your thoughts.
I currently implement a content strategy where we create a series of high value How-to written articles, relevant to our audience and then work at getting them placed on multiple high value websites.
I have just been offered an opportunity with a PR6 domain to create a similar series of content but place it all on their site with links back to ours through a dedicated section.
So my question is would I gain more value from small amounts of great content in lots of places vs. a lot of great content in on place?
Effectively 1 link from 20 sites vs. 20 links from 1 site.

Hi Robert, two good answers above - it depends on your aims and intent (i.e. is it solely about links or would you like to built up reputation and readership?).
I would second the point that Debdulal made - is it possible for you to put the content on your own site? That way you could get the best of both worlds - reputation and readership, plus inbound links if the content is high quality and you work to promote it.
Good luck!

If we go by the algorithm, yes getting 20 links from 20 different domains does help in securing better ranking in the SERP. But again this will look like; you are writing these articles solely for the purpose of earning links. Rather why not tread middle ground here. You can publish a series of such articles with the same author bio from a single website. This will have twin benefits – You will establish a strong relation with the targeted readers and secondly the whole process will appear natural.
_However, I would rather like to get all those high value content on my website and then I will promote them. If they are really great articles, my website will get direct value from it and probably, the website might have earned one or two links naturally. _

It really depends what your intentions are.
If you are look at it technically, 20 links from 20 different domains i believe will be more beneficial in terms of improving your link profile and ranks.
On the other hand, if the audience on that website is closely related and you think you'll get allot of referral, click through traffic from the 20 different articles, then that could be an option.
Adding up the pro's and cons mixed with the intent of your promotion will give you your answer.
If your looking at improving your link profile (ranks) then i would go 1 on 20 rather than 20 on 1.

Unlinked mentions that seem to be FROM by site
Hi Everyone I'm new to SEO so apologies if this is a silly question. I'm using the unlinked mentions tool and as far as I can see the mentions are from my own site! I've attached a screen grab. Am I being a muppet? I thought that it would show mentions on OTHER sites that I don't have a link back to my site! The screen grab appears to show links on my site, as in posts on my own forum? Thanks for your help! Cw2bjhw

Advice On Promoting A Hosting Site
hi, I hope some of you might be able to give me a few pointers here. A friend of mine has started a web hosting company in the UK. Not an affiliate but actually owns a data centre, Now he has a great deal of experience in running hosting in other countries but all his work came from large corporate companies and not from the net. The UK hosting he wants to promote from online sales as well. Now I know his site needs considerable work (http://www.cloudwebsters.co.uk) but I want to be able to give him some advice on the best ways to get started promoting his site. Obviously content is a key to success, but not sure how he can incorporate lots of content into the site as it is effectively e-commerce. Looking at sites such as UK2.net they have a lot of pages on the site but they are all minimal content. such as http://www.uk2.net/glossary/moreuk2/ which only has a couple of sentences on them. Is this really the way to go for the site, my feeling is no as it does not offer any real quality but your opinions are appreciated. Thanks Jenson

Unique Domains vs. Total Links?
At what point is there diminishing returns from getting multiple links from one website? Edit: To clarify, when doing competitor research I come across lots of sites that have say 500 linking domains with 5000 total links. When setting goals and calculating the types of links I should go after, I'm not certain which number is the one actually helping the site to rank.

Two Links in one Article to One Domain
Will multiple links in a single article to one target domain (but seperate pages) count, or just the first link of that article? Thanks, Chris

Should I find a way to archive high authority product pages for an e-commerce site?
One of the sites that I work on has a high turnover of products as it sells cutting-edge technology products that quickly become outdated. For each product it is important to build a strong link profile as the competition is very high. I am therefore reluctant to remove pages once products have been discontinued (typically after 6-12 months). However, I do not want discontinued products to appear alongside the latest products as this will hinder the customer experience. Is it worth me finding a way to archive the old products, so as to maintain the links that have been built up?

Amazon Affiliate Link Values
I'm fairly new to the whole SEO and link building scene so I'm trying to get a handle of high value, low value, and negative value links. For example, I had a discussion with my boss on the idea of affiliating our e-commerce site with Amazon. From a business standpoint, it'd probably increase sales. However, I was wondering if those links would have value for search engines? Thanks

Your opinion of link building strategy
Hi all, I just started working on the optimization of highly competitive keywords on one website. I already started posting articles in reputable directories, but as you know, more quality links are needed. To do that I created the following strategy: (see the uploaded image or http://i.imgur.com/9HCiM.png) The idea is to buy new domain and build page rank to this domain by other 3,4 domains that I will buy with PR3. Those 3 domains will contain low quality text generated by spinner just to keep that PR. Then those 3 domains will give PR to the newly created website which will contain only professionally written information and sometimes will give links to me. At the end I will get high quality links. I know it's hard work, but posting PR articles will not be enough. I will continue to spy the competition via SEOMoz OSE but for now that is the idea that I have for quality links. Share your opinion 🙂 9HCiM.png

Companies Copy Content with links
One of our customers has been getting a whole bunch of really relevant links recently as many of his competitors are actually going to his site copying the text from his page and forgetting to remove the links that are within the text. Its amazing we have links from major UK providers of his products totally for free. This is where linking to the actual page itself is coming into play and we are gaining good back links. Has anyone else experienced this before ?
