Which Google API do you use to creat a rank checking tool?
-
I can't seem to work this one out.
Basically I want to make a very simple rank checker tool something similar to http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/ranking-reports/ where a user simply type in a domain and a keyword and in return is shown the position within the results.
The problem is I can’t work out which API's I need in order to build it, does anyone know what I need to poke about with?
It must work with Google and ideally with Bing and the rest

Traffic Travis has a nice and easy to use free windows app that does what you want (for low volumes). http://www.traffictravis.com/ you'd be better off using a proxy service with it though.
-
Has anyone used authoritylabs? They seem to do a decent job...

As gmellak says, you may want to try the scrape approach. However, Its a dirty approach and if you submit too many requests you will get Captchas.
-
To my knowledge what you seek does not exist. If you do dig it up please share with the rest of us!

I need to create somethng that works on the fly, without any analytics or webmaster account
-
Which API do you use though? The SOAP is not around anymore and this page http://code.google.com/more/ doesn't have anything that jumps out at me
-
Google Webmaster Tools provides rankings, though averaged they can be tweaked to a near accurate value. Their API does not support rankings at this stage, but if enough people kick and scream about it - they may! hint hint
-
We did some tests with the Google API, but weren't really satisfied with it ... you might want to try scraping results "directly" via a series of different proxies and see if you get better results this way.

not sure if thats the correct tinyurl you have posted in! lol.

I'm just saying its frown upon, not down right illegal. As i said, there are ways around it.
I happen to know the RankTracker does use the Google API, after a few uses it requires manual input for passing the prove your human captcha.
As for SEOmoz, its a good question, I have no idea how SEOmoz track SERPs, probably a trade secret though!
-
How does any rank checker tool work then? Say the report you can run on SEO moz.
Or any of the ones that you see here
-
Hi Mark,
Google doesn't take kindly to automated tools querying SERPs. You may find that if you make a tool for querying serps, it will only work for a number of times before you get the "Prove your human" captcha.
In Google's TOS it says: You specifically agree not to access (or attempt to access) any of the Services through any automated means (including use of scripts or web crawlers).
There are ways around it such as masking IPs and using several differing API keys_, however you would be breaking TOS._
Personally, I'm in the business of keeping Google happy, so I'd steer clear.
Cheers
Aran

Question About creating seperate websites or using a subdomain or just subfolders...Thanks!
I am working with a company who has created a reservation software...We have been advertising this software aggressively and have been doing well with companies coming on board...Let's call the company ABC and the url was ABC.com...Now they are launching a customer facing side of things that will have all the clients listed for consumers to book at their location...So an online marketplace...Like VRBO or AirBnB...They are taking the name of the software company and making it the url for the marketplace site...So now the marketplace is ABC.com and we need to figure out if we go with a new site for the software side or if we use subdomains or a subfolder.... Do we go with ABCSoftware.com - New root domain ABC.software.com - Subdomain ABC.com/software - Subfolder There are a few other intricacies with this...Not all the companies that use the software will be on the marketplace side...And people who book through the company but using the software have a url embedded on their site that books there directly...This booking costs the company less than a booking that comes through the marketplace so this needs to be kept separate... Thanks for the help everyone!

What all other SEO tool (along with Moz) are you using at your company / SEO Agency / Marketing Agency?
Hello Folks. Let me put it this way. Moz is great. especially, this community of like minded people. But, when it comes to Moz tool's features- it has its own Pros and Cons. And, that's what force us to add other tools to our tool kit. So, just wanted to know what all other SEO tools you use and why??? Let me start this by answering this question: I use SERPed.net as my other SEO tools suite. And the reasons are: It offers 40+ SEO tools ( Few are similar to the ones that I get with Moz, but the other ones that I don't get in Moz are real good. For ex: **Site Auditor Pro, Mobile **Prospector) Along with showing data for their metrics and algos, they pull data from- SEMrush and Majestic SEO. So, I don't need to have subscription of these 2 tools and still I get the data from them. A big money saver 🙂 Let's start this interesting thread 🙂

When using Moz Pro do I want Google-UK or -GB as default and why?
Hi. When using Moz Pro, I always select Google UK as default search with GB and US next. Is there a reason to choose one over the other? If so why? I am UK based and so are my clients. Thanks

Rank Tracker report truble
Hello, I am new at SEOmoz, and I am having some troubles setting up my rank tracking report. Last week I set up e-mail notifications, but it hasn’t been delivered to this day. Can anybody tell me when do you usually receive the report via e-mail? Thank you.

Woo rank features
Is there a way to find the same type of information that woo rank provides via the pro toolset? I am just learning SEO and exploring the PRO tool set and just received a woo rank report for a clients site and right off the bat I see that it is missing the robots.txt file, but I haven't found anything like that on SEO moz. Thanks!

Need assistance with tool development using SEOMoz & Google APIs
I don't know where the right place to ask this is, but I work for an SEO agency, and we are looking for someone to help us with development of some tools utilizing the SEOMoz API and probably the Google API as well. Does anyone know where I could find a person with some previous experience with development using these APIs? We've had poor luck just trying to use a developer without specific experience in this area or at least some SEO knowledge. If you're a developer and would like to talk with us, you can contact me directly if you prefer, rather than post your contact info publicly, but I welcome any helpful thoughts or ideas regarding development of SEO tools. Thanks,

Top ranking with no SEO
I ran an SEOMoz keyword difficulty report for the term "interim CFO services" and found that all of the websites that ranked really well for that term have good page authority and domain authority scores and plenty of incoming links.....except 1. result #5 has a page and domain authority of 1 and no incoming links, however it's ranked #5 in google SERP for this highly competitive term. see screenshots: http://screencast.com/t/NJiOn8N4l http://screencast.com/t/x6tU1RhX4j Is this ranking based solely on the domain name being 100% relevant? Did they just get lucky and hit the google rankings jackpot? If this is the case, by the same logic I am trying achieve high rankings for the keyword "outsourced accounting firm" and purchased the domain name outsourcedaccountingfirm.com and am not even ranked in the top 50 with google for that keyword. (it's very new though) any feedback on either questions above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
