Google keyword rankings

I show a MON icon (it looks like a calendar page) for all my google rankings. The icon is not clickable. Can anybody tell me what this is? Also, I use to be highly ranked in 100's of keywords in google now barely anything. The domain is several years old and has performed in well in the past. Can't figure out what is going on.

Hi Scott,
This is Megan from the SEOmoz Help Team. Sorry about those calendar icons! We were having problems with some rankings populating in campaigns, but I just checked your campaign and everything looks to be back on track. Sorry for the delay!

I think it is a plug-in in the play. Check the list of plug-ins and get the unwanted ones removed and please share your website so that we can give you some suggestions.

Hi Scott,
The "Mon" icon means that a crawl is still in progress (by Roger Mozbot) and hasn't completed yet. Once in a while there can be glitches and the crawl will get stuck, but usually it resolves just fine. Regarding your second question, what did you use to track your rankings prior to SEOMoz or have you been tracking theme here all along? Just curious to know if you are seeing rankings drop here or if you are comparing the rankings you see here to another tool you've used somewhere else. Cheers!
Dana

Does Anchor Text in Links Count When Google Looks at Overall Keywords on the Page?
So, on our site, we have a list of related blog posts on a page that focuses on bamboo flooring. These blogs posts have anchor text like "What's the best bamboo flooring?" "How to install bamboo flooring." "Yada yada bamboo flooring yada." Because the main keyword for the page is bamboo flooring, would the presence of these words within anchor text on the page be considered as keywords on the bamboo flooring page, affecting that page and possibly stuffing within that page?

Are Keywords treated as Case Sensitive?
We found that keywords are not case sensitive, but MOZ show same keyword in different case under "Top National Keywords" tab. Eg: 1) Wobble Wedge 2) wobble wedge

To switch high-ranking keyword for one with higher volume?
I have a client who already ranks very well for the keyword "odor removal service" (#3 average rank). I'd like to use this as my primary keyword phrase, but the search volume is not very high (avg. monthly search of 90). A similar keyword phrase like "odor eliminator" has a search vol. of 4400 and the same competitiveness. Even its long-tail derivatives like "natural odor eliminator" still have a much higher volume (360) and would be a more accurate description of the service. In cases like this where you are already ranking well for a relevant keyword (but are still not generating much traffic), is it worth losing that keyword ranking in the hopes of ranking better for a keyword with higher volumes. Just to be clear, I'm not referring to a secondary keyword, but to the main keyword phrase around which we'll be building primary and secondary related keywords. Thanks for any feedback.

How many keywords is too many?
Hi there Moz'ers, I run a mens fashion brand called THE AFFAIR, where we craft premium T-shirts and Art Prints inspired by your favourite books. So my problem is that I have no idea what to try to rank for keyword wise because every product is inspired by a different book and author. Whilst I could go very wide and try for terms such as "graphic t-shirts" or "printed t-shirts" they are a) super competitive and b) bear no relation to the primary selling point being the literature inspired basis of what we do. But on the flip side, there's just not that many people searching for "Jules Verne t-shirts" or even "Adventure t-shirts" to go a little wider at the genre level. Basically I'm confused at a conceptual level about how to best select my keywords and desperately need some help before running down the wrong path! For what it's worth the site is built on WP (using WooCommerce) and I have installed Yoast and begin playing around with it... But anyway it's the larger strategy that has me stumped at the moment and I really don't know where to begin. Thanks for your time and all comments very much appreciated. FREE T-SHIRT to whoever has the best solution 🙂 cheers

Google ranks better apps over articles
Hello, On my quest to recover from Goolge´s updates I found out that the serps show apps and software downloads ranking better than content (articles or similar) for one of my most popular keywords. When the ads above the fold update hit my site (I can only assume that because of the date) I lost about 50% of my traffic). This keyword dopped from the first or second position to a steady fifth or sixth page position. Today, I was trying to research which sites outranked me and to my surprise no result in the first 15 position was an article, just apps and software downloads. It is not that is wrong. Let´s say that we are talking about an area similar to instagram software (although it doesn´t rank in this keyword). I´m not asking about my site. I simply want to know if the web apps (social sites) and mobile apps are taking over the content in serps. Is it that now you can´t go for a high place in the rankings (for certain keywords) if you are not a social site or an app? Thanks!

Assesing which keywords to target
Hi Looking for some advice: Situation: Starting and SEO campaign for the French market. We have extensive keyword data from our adwords account as this has been running for a few months. Questions: What should we be looking out for in relations to keywords to target in the seo campaign? How many keywords is it sensible to target or chase? (one person dedicated to the French seo campaign) Thanks for your help, Andrew

Informational pages, not product pages, are ranking for product-related keywords
My site sells products (+1000s) and we have a few pages about how-to's, tips, etc. But when you search for keywords that are relevant to the products, the guides show up as search results. For example, if we search for "red widgets", the page for "how to make widgets" shows in the SERP and not the "red widgets" product page. This doesn't make sense when most of the search results go to our guides and not to the product pages. How can I change this? Do I permanent remove these guides? Or rename the title, description? My guess is that other sites have linked to these guides so they are making our site more of a "guide" site as opposed to the products we sell. Any advice/recommended would be appreciated.
