Which analytics tools do you use?
-
If you are interested in web analytics, could you tell me, which tools (software) do you use? No just Google Analytics, but also some other tools (e.x: for heatmaps, facebook, internal statistics, ... etc)
I´m interested also in testing (A/B, ..) - so, also these tools you can mention
thanks

I've only used Piwik a small amount, but in my experience, it cannot because the search query visibility issue isn't on the analytics package side. It's Google search. They mask the referring URL as soon as the searcher clicks to leave the SERP, I believe.
-
If you're already using Google Analytics, I'd definitely recommend Google Content Experiments for A/B testing. It's free, easy to setup, and works well.
I'd also recommend crazyegg.com for heatmaps. It's really an amazing tool. They have a free trial, but it is fairly expensive once you have to start paying (price depends on how much traffic you get).
If crazyegg.com is too expensive for heatmaps, the 'In Page Analytics' screen within Google Analytics was recently significantly improved to a degree where it's worthwhile to use it now.

Can Piwik see the search data that would be (not provided) on Google Analytics?
-
No analytics package is completely accurate and results on most (if not all) will vary. I'm not sure if Webtrends is server-based, but if so it will show more visits than Google Analytics. Amongst other reasons that avoid GA detection, some people have JavaScript disabled and sometimes the JavaScript for your page won't have loaded in time to be registered (especially if it's just before the tag.

I use Google Analytics and Web trends, I also have AWstats on some smaller wordpress sites
I have done some testing in the past and have run all 3 of these packages on the same site and compared the results.
Google analytics showed up to 50 fewer visitors than Webtrends - I never had the resources to set up a full blown test and work out why this would be, but I do know that Webtrends was also not showing all the visitors.
I know this because I was giving a presentation at a seminar and I went to demonstrate the Webtrends stats package, visited the stats then the site then back to the stats and there was no record of my visit.
I checked again after the presentation (an hour later) and still not recorded (the site was a demo site so no traffic)
I would be interested in reading a more detailed test if you conduct one

Whats the Best Tool for Bulk SERPS Checking?
To get round the 'not provided' issue I've just generated a list of the 5000+ keywords that people have used to visit my site over the last 7+ years. I want to do a one off SERPS check for all these keywords and export into excel where I'll tie it up with lots of analytics and moz based data I was going to use the queries report on analytics but my data only goes back as far as May this year, so I'll use that if I have to (and probably will anyway for the impressions and CTR) but I'd prefer to cover everything so I can see any opportunities in my very long tail

Ecommerce seo - competitors are using spammy links to rank HELP
After setting up SEO Moz and whilst waiting for it to crawl my site i have checked out my competitors who are ranking for the keywords i am going after. It appears from what i can see in OSE that they are ranking with back links from spammy looking sites and lots of exact match anchor text. I have tried to match a few links with what they have currently without getting myself into anything too spammy but i really don't want to follow how they have done it exactly. The niche i am in is pretty boring but the rewards are great but i am finding creating content and distributing it correctly difficult which is why i need some help. My site is roughly 9 months old and the product descriptions are hand written trying to give as much info as possible with a hint of personality so no cookie cutter back of the box descriptions. i have matched a few of the links from competitors which weren't too spammy and as relevant as i could get to my niche, i have also created articles for some article directories - all of which isn't really getting me very far and i am running out of ideas on how to create new content & the types of new content to help me get back links naturally. If any of you friendly guys could offer me some assistance in setting up a basic seo campaign which would help me target my keywords i would be very much in your debt

Using Semantic Language to rank, how much stock do you put into this? (LSI)
In theory, analyzing the top results for a given phrase and comparing the common words and phrases would indicate what google considers relative language to the query. Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) was and still is a buzz phrase for some SEOs. But how much stock do you give to the idea that if you can determine the common language for top rankers and then duplicate that language and density of common words that your website will then rank for that query you desire? Has anyone here tested the theory of using semantic language from the results themselves to better rank?

How can I estimate a domain's overall organic search traffic - any tools?
Most of my analysis revolves around looking at rankings for specific keyword phrases that I've identified as important/relevant. But it'd be nice to be able to look at a domain and get a sense for how much organic traffic they get overall. If they're not ranking for the keywords I'm researching but have a lot of organic traffic that would be a nice signal to me that they are probably targeting other phrases more or have a big brand presence or something. Any suggestions? Thanks! Jeff Gibson
