Developing A Survey To Assist With SEO Plan
-
Hello everyone,
I searched through the forums to see if this has come up but it appears that it has not.
I am in the process of developing an SEO plan for a client as part of an educational research project.
As part of general research, we are planning on sending out a survey/questionnaire to all of the client's contacts in order to help us develop the SEO plan. Obviously a big emphasis would be placed on keywords (i.e. what keywords would you use if you were looking for ______) but there are other areas to look at as well.
So, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions regarding the types of questions to ask in a SEO research project like this. What would you ask? What would you be interested in?
If clarification is needed, please let me know.

Thanks for your prompt response EGOL I agree that asking those questions to the people directly involved in the business would yield interesting and valuable results.
However, this project requires that we survey the organization's clients. The clients are directly impacted by the performance of the organization's website, and as such, they will be interested in helping out. As such, I'm curious as to what questions would be most valuable to ask.
The results of the survey need to direct the SEO plan to some degree, so the questions should relate to how the organization can improve their website, mainly from an SEO perspective. Does this make sense?
Further feedback would be much appreciated!

I would rather speak with the person who every day answers the telephone at the business and ask that person how people, new to the business, ask for the products. If the business has a store where customers come in to make purchases the people who serve these customers can provide similar information.
These types of employees are often extremely valuable in understanding the language of new customers who are having their first contact with the business.
I would do that rather than putting this information out to all of client's contacts. I think that it would be easier to give this small number of employees the knowledge needed to answer your question properly than it would be to get good feedback from Joe Schmoe who will most likely delete or toss your questionnaire.
These people can also provide lots of information about customer misconceptions about the product, problems that they encounter. These can be very valuable guides to content creation.

What would you expect an SEO agency to deliver in 6 months?
Hi All, Looking for some views/opinions on this one, my question is "What would you expect an SEO agency to have delivered for a single client over a 6 month period with a budget of £12k?" I appreciate that its fairly open ended and very subjective not knowing the site/circumstances but is there a general consensus or minimum you'd expect to have seen delivered for example x number of backlinks, x number pieces of content created, technical improvements made etc etc. Any steer, views or opinions would be greatly appreciated. First Time SEO Online Store
Hi All, I have recently launched a new online store selling mobile phones and accessories. I have always found SEO to be one of those foggy areas, after all I see things through curly braces. However, as the director of the new online store I do need to get myself involved in SEO and all its wonders that it has to offer. I was wondering if any of the Pro SEO guys at there have any tips for an almost newbie in the world of SEO... Can it be made fun?? I find it at times to be a right slog and I do question whether I'm actually getting anywhere etc. Any responses or advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards Rob

Local SEO Practice: Creating a Fictitious Business?
Has anyone tried fabricating a fake, brick-and-mortar store as an SEO experiment? Sort of along the lines of what Starwood is doing (check out this Wikipedia experiment with the Test Galaxy Sheraton), but with a legitimate physical address and all? Was it useful? And are there any potential legal troubles that could arise from borrowing a vacant address? I'm thinking this could be helpful for my Intern to gain practical experience in local SEO, without the politics of working for a client But I wouldn't want to blight that address for future occupants if the experiment went horribly awry. We could instead offer pro bono services to a small business with a limited web presence – that would be useful to her, and constructive. But I'd like to have a better understanding of what signals Google looks for when deciding whether to index a website in local search, and see whether possible to dupe those algos. What are your thoughts, Mozzers? .

Survey: Success With In-house Link Building
We have been doing link prospecting and link building in-house, and I just wanted to get a sense of the process from others doing SEO. Here are the simple questions to the survey: To get things started, I have highlighted my answers in bold letters. How advanced do you consider yourself in link building: a) Beginner b) Okay, but learning c) Expert How many hours do you spend a week engaging in link building related tasks (i.e prospecting, reaching out to prospects, generating follow-up lists, etc) a) 5 hours or less b) 5-10 hours c) more than 10 hours How many quality links can you generate a month? Around 6-8 (they are decent, not the highest quality- mostly blog posts) Do you rely on SEO tools or do you believe in advanced search queries and DIY techniques? Both, I am trying to get more familiar with the advanced queries. What tools if any do you find useful? Myblogguest, advanced search queries, majestic SEO, ontolo query generator What is the most useful method for getting inbound links from authority sites (i.e .edu, .org, etc.)? I have had no success pitching content to these sites as of yet. Thanks

What SEO conferences do you recommend?
I need your recommendations for which SEO conference I should attend to during 2011-2012. I've been working with SEO since 2002 so I'm not a beginner. I want the good stuff! 🙂 However I havn't been to that many conferences before, only PubCon Las Vegas several times. I would therefore appreciate some help from you guys who have tried them all (or at least several of them) 🙂 Thank's a lot!
