How To Use Followerwonk and Twitter for outreach link building
-
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with how to use follower wonk and twitter for outreach link building and offer any strategies. I'm using the following method but perhaps there are more efficient ways of doing it or other software that can aid the process.
As I understand it it's a case of searching bios on followerwonk based on keywords and at the minute I'm selecting targets by social authority. (Is that the best metric or the there another one that's better?).
I'm basically then following users in my niche and hoping that they follow me back. Those that do I'm then visiting their website based on the url in their twitter bio and running it through OSE to check the domain authority to see if the site authority is high enough to warrant listing them as a potential link target. If so I'm communicating with them by sharing their content, mentioning them or direct messaging them complimenting them on an article or such like.
My aim is to build a relationship and eventually achieve a guest post or backlink somehow. Is this how the process should work?

I think that's a great start Samuel, so I'm just gonna expand on a few points.
To increase the likelihood of the user/brand following you, you need to offer them value and be relevant to their interests. There's a few obvious ways you can do this - tweet things about their industry, even directly @mention them as well with questions. Another way would be to get in front of them - start appearing on the websites they visit.
You can attempt to do this with Tweet Archivist. Currently still free, so be quick. Enter this search term - filter:links from:TWITTERHANDLE - with twitter handle obviously being the person you want to target. This will bring up a list of tweets from that person that contained links. If you visit the top URLs tab, you may be able to see certain domains popping up more frequently. Therefore, it would be safe to assume that the user/brand enjoy reading things from that website. If you could become a writer there, you could impress the target.
In addition, while I would use followerwonk to find prospects, I wouldn't use twitter straight away to approach them. I'd actually use Google+. We're all longing for more reasons to use Google+, but it is very much underused (and not as oversaturated as Twitter) at this moment in time. Therefore, your outreach and/or message is more likely to be picked up and responded to there - as it gives us an excuse to use Google+!
These are just some ideas to help you on your way. I'd definitely read through Richard Baxter's slideshare on SEOGadget's method of acquiring links too, as I believe there are a few takeouts from there.
Hope this helps!

Using Linkedin Groups for Content Marketing
In my sector there are approximately 100 relevant groups that I could post content to. There are between 5 and 10 that would be relevant to any particular blog post. How many groups should I post to? If I post to all relevant ones I can end up spamming due to overlapping group membership, If I don't I can miss out on access to a potentially large audience What's best practice here?

Competitor has 50 linking root domains, 2500 facebook likes
Hello, A competitor of ours is ranking way higher than you would expect. They have very few links, half the DA and homepage PA of us, yet they rank several slots higher. On analysis, the only difference seems to be that they have 2500 facebook likes. Did they buy likes? Have you seen anything odd like this before? Thanks.

Is Twitter Stealing Our Link Juice?
Something recently clicked in my mind when looking at the way our web developers were linking to our twitter accounts:. They were linking like this: A) https://twitter.com/#!/aczarto Instead of like this: B) https://twitter.com/aczarto
Social Media | | Czarto
(Due to a copy/paste from the address bar). Technically (A) is a link to the homepage of twitter and NOT to the individual twitter account as in **(B) **(The hash tag isn't technically part of the url, and traditionally Google has ignored everything after the hashtag) For me, this raises a few thoughts/comments: Make sure your web team is linking in (B) format and not just copy pasting the url when they visit your company's twitter page. I don't think twitter is doing this on purpose - but if they are - it is EVIL GENIUS! They are stealing lots of links heading into a user's account page and instead sending that link juice to their home page. Does Google-bot follow hash tags? ie: When Google hits the link (A), does it crawl twitter.com/ or does it crawl twitter.com/#!/aczarto? Is this a tactic that can be leveraged by others to try and direct links to other pages? ie: MyWebStore.com/money-page/#show-link-bait that generates shares that actually produce links to the site's money page instead of the intended link-bait. Could this be possibly considered cloaking? Looking forward to people's thoughts...3 -
