Should I forward my domains or setup blogs?
-
Hi,
I have 5 new domain names related to my main business website. How can I utilize these domains for SEO purpose?
Forwarding these domains to my current website will be useless as these are fresh domains. So how can I setup these websites in turn strengthens main site.
Thanks

remember if you're going to actually create another site to try to build authority and then use that site to link to your existing site you're doing a lot of work for one link.
I agree Andy is a genius follow what he says to the letter. if you are linking to your self or to your own website. I Gather you are on WordPress from the blog comments am I correct?
if so I would try out some of the managed WordPress hosts you can use Zippy kid to forward the domains to your existing site for you. I Believe they are an excellent value in the industry 25 bucks a month you get 100,000 page views and a CDN along with backups and flat-out excellent WordPress hosting. I Would also look at WPengine, page.ly and web synthesis. I Have accounts at every one of them and they're all great in different ways i think Zippy kid hands down gives you the most for your money and enterprise content delivery network along with all of security and WordPress knowledge that's normally a minimum hundred dollars month fee if you don't like any of these guys you can get your money back and I would be up front with them and tell them honestly say I'm just trying out. I In saying this simply because so many people post on inferior hosts i would take this opportunity to see what's out there. I that you'll be surprised.
Thank you for the kind words I wish you all the best
Sincerely,
Thomas

Thanks a lot Andy & Thomas for the advice.
These domain names are not exact match domains. So I will 301 redirect these to my main site. I will choose 1 or 2 domains to setup blogs which targets only 1 specific keyword, related to main site. I will add unique & helpful content to this & will try to get some subscribers. Also I should take the precautions stated by Andy.

Andy,
Excellent advice man I think you and I agree that unless he plans to make them into something legitimate or barring the exception he made a customized short URL for his domain.
He should as you said either build them out to be great sites. using the rules you set that I happen to agree with.
In fact I know of a case where a friend had been taking the precautions you stated and forgot to run a proxy server Google is smart and when they see to Google accounts from the same IP address your ISP provided him he was caught it is a waste of time to try and fool Google today. You can focus on building RCS or in my opinion the rest is a waste of time.
I love experiments the even though sometimes they are a waste of time they are never a real waste because of what you could learn.
Like Andy said doing experiments you followed the same protocol with a proxy server and do not harm others and don't even try to associate anything with your other sites.
You could sell them sometimes they're worth money I don't know what you have For domains so I can't tell you if they're worth selling.
Andy good to see you man.
All the best,
Tom

1st off never use 2 domains for 1 website the only exception is a customized short URL domain and if your wanting to make use of it you better include a system like awe.sm if you are not going to create a short URL for your companys Main website never try to use two domains to benefit one website reason being it's twice as hard to rank and completely ridiculous to try And make an authority of two domains. when you're representing one website.
I would guess that you could try some hosting companies and see what you think. You might find a good use for those domains by doing that or other experiments.
Are they part the domains part of your keyword structure? If they are exact match domains or are we talking about different TDL's like .com. net. org if they are the same domain primarily and have a different ending I would use them by setting them up to forward to my blog/website And if visitors use the other domains they will always find your site in addition to no one will be able to hijack your domain and build on your brand.
If you're talking about random domains I would set up servers and do some testing. Unless you care a lot about any of these domains I would set up hosting with different sites and figure out company what the best host is for your main website.
I own a lot of domains myself and purchase them for name protection in addition I have purchased some because they are good to test with. If they are the same name as your company do not think their worthless to point them to your existing website.
One inexpensive Way of doing this so you know if your with a register like register.com or Go Daddy you will be billed I believe $75 a year per domain I would suggest using DNS made easy or cloudflare for the DNS I would code DNS made easy has that way you would have no issues with cloud flare and you would be able to have extremely reliable and anycast DNS for up to 10 domains for $25 a year.
Saving you quite a bit of money in forwarding costs and giving you a lot more in terms of speed and uptime. I would recommend a company like DYN they're my favorite however they would not be the best choice in less you don't mind spending a little bit.
I hope I've been of help to.
Sincerely,
Thomas

You have to be careful setting up any kind of microsite because if Google catches on to it, you will get hit with a big stick!
I would never offer this as a solution to any client just because of what can happen if it all goes pear shaped, but if you really do want to make these sites, I will offer you the same information as I have given clients in the past:
- Never host all the sites on the same server
- Never add analytics to any of the sites
- Never add the sites to Webmaster Tools
- Don't bother with footer links
- Ensure links are formed as part of the content, and don't have links just through to your site
- Ensure the content on the sites is really good and unique
However, you would be much better off putting your time into writing some great content for your existing site. This is something that will never run the risk of being penalized.
Andy

Local SEO Question: Domain Wide Vs Specific Page
Hey Moz Community, Question about Local SEO authority and how it applies to a domain vs. landing page. Let me elaborate... Company is launching a new local out reach sales channel and merging it with our inbound sales channel under one brand. The plan thus far is to create a targeted landing page for local customers/leads. I have been tasked with creating the written content and making sure we are optimized as much as possible for this landing page to show up for our city. Funny enough for a lot of relevant terms we are already in the top 10 with little optimization (Also due to low competition for most of these terms) Two questions: 1. Should the whole site be optimized for local - appropriate schema markup, G+ business local set up, contact page with correct address formatting, building citations/local links etc.? To accompany our targeted page? 2. Will taking a local first initiative hurt reaching our non-local target market? If so will a very targeted landing page for local customers do the trick minus rest of local optimizations ? I guess what the question really boils down to is will optimizing for local hurt our broader inbound search reach/ranks in the long run? I want to be sure we are competitive to our broader audience and local audience on the same site with trying to get into sub-domains or considering re branding what is essentially the same department but for local purposes. Responses and sharing previous experience would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Best way to publish same content on 2 blogs?
I currently have a couple of blogs and I want to put a post on one of them and then copy it onto my other blog, but give the credit and the link back to the original (lose you yet?) I want to write a blog and publish it on my site (http://goo.gl/WRwR8) After it's on the blog on my main e-commerce site, i want to copy it onto my wordpress blog (http://goo.gl/0SSti) What is the best way to accomplish this without creating duplicate content? Is there a way to state on the second wordpress blog that this post originated from the ecommerce site? I could really use some guidance... Thanks

If we use UAW and submityourarticle.com with spun articles of high quality, could that help solve? Any other ideas for solving to get follow links? Thanks!

Which domain to use for SE business listings?
For a first time, new website. I have a Barber shop in Hartford named "Dixie Cutters" with two domains, dixiecutters.com and barberhartford.com. Obviously the latter domain has two main keywords, barber and location...Hartford. So it would be better to use that and use a 301 redirect for dixiecutters.com to redirect to barberhartford.com. Many online directories including SE listings on Google Places, BIng and Yahoo have already been set up withe domain "dixiecutters.com" and the email address info@dixiecutters.com. If I choose to make barberhartford.com the primary domain with dixiecutters.com 301 redirecting to it....does this mean that I should then change the directory listings and more specifically, the SE business listings so that they have the primary domain listed (barbarhartford.com) with an email address like...info@barberhartford.com? Or can I leave all of this alone and keep as stated above without any SEO local consequences. I know consistency is a big issue with NAP. I also know it's recommended to use an email address with your domain name in the SE business listings. If a 301 is in place, can I use dixiecutters.com in my listings?

Youtube Social Blog - how to set this up?
I noticed that some sites have a specific section on Youtube, under the structure youtube.com/social/blog, which contains backlinks to the site. For example, this Twilight blog: http://www.youtube.com/social/blog/twilightish I've had trouble finding out information about this. Is this auto-generated by Youtube, or can someone set this up?

Switching to a domain name with keywords in it, is it possible to make this happen smoothly?
Hello, We have been working on the SEO of our site for almost a year now, and we are still not really seeing the success we would like to see. I notice often we get outranked by other sites that have lower PA/DA/citations/reviews etc than us, and the only explaination i can find is that they are getting a boost for a Partial Keyword Match in the domain name. Right now our domain name is: http://www.storwell.com And we are considering switching to http://www.storwellselfstorage.com and of course 301 redirecting all the individual pages from the old domain to the new domain's pages. How much would we risk loosing out in this transition? Can we safely transfer domains, or do we risk loosing the majority of our PA & DA because the backlinks will point at redirects instead of the actual location? Has anyone successfully managed to transfer domains and keep their DA & PA?
