Is it worth upgrading php to accomodate new WP version?
-
my client revisitors.com has a blog blog.revisitors.com that we cannot update to a newer WP version 3.5.1 because his php version apparently must be upgraded first.
You cannot update because WordPress 3.5.1 requires PHP version 5.2.4 or higher. You are running version 5.1.6.
according to client it would be potentially hazarardous for him to upgrade the php
but we cant update or add new plugins because we arent running the current version of WP
what is worse?
i am responsible for his blog but i feel handicapped bigtime - at the same time i dont want him to do something that could wreck his site functionality either
any suggestions? or advice here?
thanks

his developers say this:
The developers are skeptical about the possibility to update PHP on our server as this could seriously damage the entire RV site functionality
i have no clue why his site would be in jeopardy - he said he took care of any security issues by moving the blog to a subdomain from revisitors.com/blog to blog.revisitors.com
i also have no idea whether or not that makes his blog more secure but i need some in-depth professional advice here

It's always a good idea to keep Wordpress updated to the latest version. Because Wordpress is open source software, the code is available to everyone, which means hackers can use it to discover new vulnerabilities. Once hackers discover a vulnerability in a version Wordpress, they can easily target all blogs running that version to exploit that vulnerability.
The longer you go without updating Wordpress, the more you leave yourself vulnerable to getting hacked. You are going to have to update PHP and Wordpress eventually, so why not do it now?

this was clients exact reply:
The developers are skeptical about the possibility to update PHP on our server as this could seriously damage the entire RV site functionality

Where does the potential hazard come in? Wouldnt there be more of a hazard in running out of date WP versions and server applications? Im no developer, but I'd say unless theres some older theme/plugin that requires a previous php or wp version, theres no risk to the site's functionality.

Can't Hyperlink After the WP 4.0 Update?
Anyone else who runs a WP site have problems hyperlinking after the 4.0 update? I read I could deactivate all my plugins, and go through them one-by-one, but before I go to that step, I want to know if there's either an easier way to regain this functionality or if there is a specific plugin that's known to cause the problem. Thanks, Ruben

Duplicate Content? Designing new site, but all content got indexed on developer's sandbox
An ecommerce I'm helping is getting a complete redesign. Their developer had a sandbox version of their new site for design & testing. Several thousand products were loaded into the sandbox site. Then Google/Bing crawled and indexed the site (because developer didn't have a robots.txt), picking up and caching about 7,200 pages. There were even 2-3 orders placed on the sandbox site, so people were finding it. So what happens now?

When the sandbox site is transferred to the final version on the proper domain, is there a duplicate content issue?

New site or fix the old one
I have a delima. Basically the main business product I used to offer is not going to be offered anymore. The types of sales events we conducted for auto dealerships are not able to be insured any longer forcing the change. So I am pivoting to just offering direct mail and I plan on going into digital probably social, landing pages, content marketing and not sure what else. I was able to register http:www.roiautos.com and www.roidirectmail.com both variations of www.roiautosolutions.com withc was the original site. Also that is the closest to the actual name of the business. My question is whether to build a site focusing on direct mail using the direct mail dot com, or just to redo the current site. The current site doesn't have much rank if any because the old product was not something that was searched for. As a mater of fact 99% of my business came from referrals and word or mouth so I just never really bothered. My thoughts are that ROI Direct Mail will work better for search and I am even going to use that as a DBA and TM. But I am unsure of what to do for search. One thing that has to happen is that all references to offering staffed sales events have to be removed from any site per my insurance company. Any advice?

What is the best way to point newly built website on new domain name to the original more well known domain?
Live website on abc.com domain is being totally redone and moved to a new platform. to facilitate full testing and compliance, the new look and content was built on a different url - xyz.com for example. Now that all content is approved and testing, we want people visiting the abc.com domain to see the xyz.com website without necessarily redirecting abc.com to xyz.com What is the best to do this? Thanks all

I've set up my own site which is still fairly new but I'm a bit concerned that there is a bloackage SEO wise somewhere because when I try to crawl the site on SEOmoz it only crawls one page.
I'm really baffled and none of my research has shed much light on it. My url is www.emporiumofmanliness.co.uk I'd really appreciate any help! Thanks

Any advice for best practice for mobile versions of websites?
Hi Mozzers, I am looking to develop a mobile version of one of my sites and was wondering what was considered best practice for the following: Where to host it: m.domain.com or domain.com/mobile ? Is rel='canonical' enough to avoid mobile version being indexed or should I use "noindex" on mobile version? How to handle tablets? Which screen size sees mobile version? Which sees full site version? Thanks in advance Geoff
