How is it possible that Interflora can bounce back from a Google penalty so quickly - is that normal?
-
As far as I understand it Interflora was removed from Google organic search results on February 20th.
I guess no one knows for sure why they were delisted other than Google but I have heard theories such as giving flower bribes to bloggers in return for links
How sweet - and placing paid follow links inside advertorials within local newspaper sites.
Whatever the reason for their de listing it seemed Google must have wanted to send out a strong message since even a branded search wasn't ranking.
Fast forward 13 days to today and I now see Interflora ranking not only for their brand but also for flower delivery London etc etc...
How is it possible that they managed to get back in the SERPs so quickly? Is it normal to get a penalty and be back up and running at position 1 in less than 2 weeks? Is that normal for a penalty?
I was under the impression that being caught gaming Google to the extent where they delisted you was something far more serious and had much longer term repercussions?

"All" was probably a poor choice of words. Sorry.
Do any of us really know what blackhat SEO is anyway?
-
Your comment " All these big brands know black hat SEO and know they can get away with it so they do it." seems to broadly attack branded SEO work. Not all brands know black hat SEO. In fact, I've found more brands doing black hat and not knowing it was black hat. SEO is a mystery to brands.
Brands want results so it is on the part of the SEO or agency to educate on risks etc. I'm guessing most folks don't educate their bosses.
-
I didn't say there weren't?
-
It's not all the big brands. There are ethical SEOs working at brands.
-
They're a big brand. That's it. They knew what they were doing, got caught, got out. Very simple when you're a big brand. Same thing with iAquire. They were buying links, knew they were being naughty, got caught, got out. Big brand with big connections. Same story with most big brands. I actually just talked to a guy from Dunn & Bradstreet about this. All these big brands know black hat SEO and know they can get away with it so they do it.
-
People keep talking about how Interflora is getting favor because they're a brand, but I think it's possible that this could be no different than any other website with an unnatural links penalty.
If the penalty was due to one particular type of link (i.e. the advertorials) it's conceivably possible that they were able to get these removed very quickly and then file for reconsideration.
I've had reconsideration requests come back successful after only 3 days.
-
Or maybe they sent some flowers to Matt Cutts - Sorry that was terrible humour
-
Provided what I read was true, interflora were aware prior to the penalty that they were in trouble and were taking steps to remedy the situation by getting the links removed. It could be that their recovery is part of a settlement of sorts, they are a big brand, they took quick action, and this sort of recovery is hardly unprecedented (BMW recovered in 4 days after their penalty via Nick Wilsdon (credit where it's due)).
They apparently still haven't recovered for Valentines or Mother's day, which may be the penalty that lasts, but google got their message out about advertorials quite effectively and that is probably what they were after.
In addition I would imagine that Google's Chrome marketing ad from a while back was an argument in interflora's favour. It actually features items being sent to reviewers to review and it's hardly a huge step to see interflora's blogger flower deliveries as the same thing.

I am getting automatic spam links to my site, how can I remove them?
Hello, I need assistance, recently I noticed a huge traffic drop from my blog, lost all the rankings in SERP. My site is : tcmguide.com Checked my site in search console and noticed that I had out of no where got 13000+ links from different dirty sites, as I have never tried to building those links in my life. 13 382 links.jpg I tried to export and Disavow this but via Export I got access to 1000 only and can't find these links in MOZ. Moz is showing other links, can any one help me out to recover my traffic and If my site is hit with Spam Update, how can I recover from it. Please help me felling pretty demotivated and stressed

Diagnose My Google Crash!
On July 20, my site peaked in terms of google impressions. On July 21 it crashed and then got worse. Here is my chart from Google Webmasters. http://tinypic.com/r/abruv7/5 I have been working really hard to get qualify backlinks from my niche (mom deals/coupons) and I know people like my site due to the growth in newsletter subscriptions etc. So what happened with Google? Is it Google Panda? Nothing on my site changed except maybe I had been getting less backlinks for a few days. I am having duplicate content issues which I posted about in another question. For some reason Google is indexing past page 1 of my category pages even though Yoast Wordpress SEO is set NOT to. So I am getting duplicate title tag errors from the subpages. I also have some crawl errors/404s due to deleting and renaming categories to improve my site. Any SEO issues my site might have (shorter posts than 300 words, affiliate links etc) are the same issues my competitor's have who are on page 1 of Google. Any input would be appreciated.

Removing spam back links (Using GWM and SEOMOZ)
Hi, I have noticed that I have got some unwanted spammy back-links. I want to get rid of them. From what I read on Internet, there are two ways to doing it. Using disavow tool in GWM. Contacting individual webmaster and asking them to remove the mentions or links. I have already added the links in the disavow tool and Google has accepted the request. Is it necessary to ask those webmasters to remove the link as well?

How can I optimize the Wordpress "read more" link?
What is the correct way to work with “read more” links in Wordpress? I have a Wordpress blog where I use in each post a read more link (posts with long content), in other words, in the home page each post has two links to the full post, this is good for the usability of my blog. I show actually 10 posts on the home page, this results in 10 links of post title and 10 links of read more = 20 links. I have 10 repeated links on the home page. My read more links have customized text, links to the permalink without #more, links dofollow. In this way that I’m using read more links, Am I diluting the link juice of my blog? Is it correct to use nofollow in internal links trying to manipulate the link juice of my site?

Google unranks target keywords
I have read a number of changes in Google (see:http://searchengineland.com/too-much-seo-google%E2%80%99s-working-on-an-%E2%80%9Cover-optimization%E2%80%9D-penalty-for-that-115627)

But as of late I am having some problems with my website, and I am curious if anyone of you are also experiencing the same.
The problem is this in SEO it is a SOP that you use your target keyword as your anchor text having the url as the landing page for the page you want to rank for.
But recently the pages I want to rank for specific keywords are going down instead Google is ranking my homepage for keywords I don't want to rank for.
So instead of having my target pages rank it is my homepage that gets shown in Google, now this is what is really interesting the keywords I rank for are not in the meta title, description, keywords of the homepage in fact there are no specific keywords at all in the content!
I checked the backlinks and I have never created any backlinks to my site using those keywords I rank for.
And this is happening at a very fast rate, rankings and pages going down and only the homepage is showing up in Google.
I really want to know your thoughts.0 -
Directory submission after Google panda update
I am very much concerned about directory submission after Google panda update. I have few questions in this regard 1- Should I submit the home page URL or deep links in directories? What is better practice? 2- Can I submit more than one link in one directory? What are the consequences of submitting both (home page and deep link) in same directory? 3- Should I start directory submission aggressively or I need to take care about the quantity? Regards
