High search volume and low CTR
-
I have a two words domain with exact match keyword volume of over 1 millions local monthly search and CTR of 0.2% at average position of 6.6. Competition for this keywords is low. Shouldn't I be getting at least 5-10% at that position?
Thanks,
tb

Yes, I am trying some catchy phrases and if that doesn't work out, will add the "Coupon for free beer" in the site description.
Thanks again for the input.

Yeah... Try FREE BEER in the title tag too.

The other option available (and worth trying since it's so quick to do)...
See if you can figure out a meta-description that will make it stand out from the huge brands above you, and clearly communicate the unique value proposition of your site compared to the biggies.
For whatever searchers scan far enough down to at least see your result, this is the one way available to you to stand out and earn the click. You could even use a bit of Adwords budget to try split testing the meta-description.

Wow, what you are describing sounds like my site. Thanks for the input. Yeah, Google takes up 4 spots with wikipedia and Apple below them. So there isn't much I can do and be happy with what I have then. Maybe long tail keywords?
Not the answer I want to hear but that is the reality I guess.
Thanks,

I have a page competing for a popular keyword with these stats...
2,200,000 impressions
18,000 clicks
CTR of 0.8%
6.7 average ranking
The clicks and CTR agree with my analytics. This KW brings me about 500 to 800 visits per day.
Competitors above me are: Google with huge site links and two positions, Apple.com holding two positions, wikipedia, sometimes a news entry, sometimes some adwords above the SERPs.
I think that I have a kickass title tag in comparison to everyone else.
So, I think that my numbers are about like yours. It simply shows that ranking at #7 isn't worth much these days... and if the positions above you are industry leaders it can be really hard to get the click.
I think that my potential for moving up in this SERP is limited. Downside potential is huge because google subdomains, and other biggies are below.

Schema markup in tag manager for multiple locations not registering in tester tool or search console
Hi Moz community, I had implemented schema markup for companies with multiple branches. We setup an organization with multiple points of contact tag, a Local Business tag for each branch and tags for specific products/ services - all through Google tag manager. I managed to fix the product markup with a small update to the code I found in a Google forum but have been unable to revive our local business markup. The tags of the schema mark up are active but when I run the Google structured data testing tool it doesn't find any schema tags. We are seeing some of the tags show up in search console but not all of them. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Or, do you have any recommendations on how to markup an organization with multiple branches? Should we have one overall organization tag and a separate one for each business or is there another way of presenting each branch? Appreciate any insight!

Hybrid page showing in Google search results
Hello Mozzers We have two pages showing on page 1 of Google for the search term 'inset day sessions' This url is the correct page which we want site visitors to see. http://www.laughology.co.uk/teacher-workshop-s-inset-days/inset-days The other page page seems to be a strange hybrid of how the page used to look and the new content we have included. It's a mess and we don't want visitors clicking on this link. There is no menu link to this page on the site, but it is showing as a link In SH404sef http://www.laughology.co.uk/schools/teacher-workshop-s-inset-days/ What is the best way to deal with this? Thanks Ian nKOHYbn

Search Term not appearing in On-Page Grader but is in code?
Hi, I have never had this issue in the past, but I am working on a website currently which is - http://hrfoundations.co.uk I didn't develop this website and the pages are in separate folders on the FTP which I have never come across before but hey ho. Anyway I have added the search term (HR Consultancy West Midlands) to the about us page in the h1, title and description however when I run the On-Page Grader it only says that I have entered it within the body which I haven't even done yet. When I view the page source it has defiantly been uploaded and the search terms are there, I have tried checking the spelling incase I spelt it incorrectly and I still can't seem to find the issue. Has anyone else experience this in the past, I'm going to go away now and check the code for any unclosed divs etc to see if that may be causing any issue's. Thanks Chris

Will duplicate content on ecommerce cause harm in search results?
First off, SEO learner, not a professional, therefore question is not for any client. A new (less 1 yr) ecommerce site in a particular sector is now moving into partnership with relevant websites to be their online store. A 'store' link on the partner site will redirect to the ecommerce domain to a dedicated area (on a domain/directory path) with the partner's branding. To do this though means duplicating the entire catalogue for each partner that comes on board for this scheme. So the original ecommercesite.com/categories also delivers ecommercesite.com/partner1/categories (with partner's brand identity) ecommercesite.com/partner2/categories (with partner's brand identity) and so on Won't duplicating the product catalogue in directories cause problems in delivering effective SERPs for the original ecommerce site?
