How do I set up goals in analytics to track the sales funnel when several pages of the steps required to checkout have the same url?

I have found this in Google Analytic but it makes no sense to me - is there are better resource which explains how you do this step by step ( or a good video perhaps?)
Identical URLs Across Multiple Steps
In some situations, the URL does not change across a sequence of activity. For example, a sign-up process might have the following URL path:
- Step 1 (Sign Up):
www.example.com/sign_up.cgi
- Step 2 (Accept Agreement):
www.example.com/sign_up.cgi
- Step 3 (Finish):
www.example.com/sign_up.cgi
To track visitors' progress through a funnel with the same URL for each step, modify the tracking code to create a virtual URL for each step in the sequence that you want to track. For details on how to use this in your tracking code, see Virtual Pageviews in the _Asynchronous Migration Examples_guide, which shows how to do this in all versions of the tracking code. The following example shows how you might fabricate 3 URLs using the asynchronous tracking code:
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/funnel_G1/step1.html']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/funnel_G1/step2.html']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/funnel_G1/step3.html']);
You would then define your funnel and goal URLs using the ones you created in the tracking code modifications.

In order to track those steps even though the URL doesn't change after each step, you have to create what is essentially an extra "fake" page view to be fed into Analytics each time a visitor takes an action towards the goal on that one page.
So you will add a bit of event tracking script to each action the visitor takes. The result will be that each time a visitor triggers an event (clicking Add to Cart, clicking Proceed to Checkout etc.), it will be seen by Analytics as a new page view. You can then include these new pages as the steps in your goal tracking. (You'll create the names of these pages in the event-tracking code you insert)

P.S. The one caveat to all this - each of the new events will be tracked as pageviews in Analytics, artificially inflating your overall pageview metrics. You'll need to filter them out (using custom reports or a separate profile) in order to keep them from distorting the real pageviews and creating misleading data for the other analyses you might be doing.

If the URL's are all the same are there different actions that the user is taking on the page?

Vanity URL vs domain URL
Hi guys, Our CEO is having an interview with a known broadcaster on radio. During the interview he will mention a specific URL www.example.com/marketingcampaign that we want track on Google Analytics, therefore behaving like a vanity URL redirecting to the actual URL www.example.com/resources/primary-keyword-2018. Would this work the same way a vanity URL in terms of tracking or not such as following guideline here ? I am asking because vanity URLs are supposed to be completely different domain name that gets purchased and in our case it is the same domain name just with a different URI. thanks guys!

Question on structuring URLs in a Drupal CMS - Adverse SEO or Analytics impacts?
Hello Moz Community, We're building out a health system (think a bunch of hospitals and clinics etc.) website on Drupal for the first time. Nebraskamed.com is our domain. Because we're using nodes instead of pages, our URL structure can pretty much be whatever we think makes sense. Our proposal is to drop /blog/ and related terms from the URL structure, because it doesn't really mean anything to the user. Instead, we'd use the service line "cancer" for example, followed by the name of the blog post or document. Example: nebraskamed.com/cancer/10-bone-cancer-myths Do you see any red flags (perhaps with SEO or Analytics for example) to what I'm proposing? domain name/service line/blog-post-name If so, do you have a URL structure you advise?

Tracking 301 redirect traffic in Google Analytics
if I 301 redirect www.mywebsite.com to go to www.yourwebsite.com, how can I track the traffic in Google Analytics that is coming from mywebsite.com?? I don't think that's a referral traffic, is it?

Why only a few pages of my website are being indexed by google
Our website www.navisyachts.com has in its sitemap over 3000 pages of information, and this is all unique content written by our team. Now Google Webmaster central shows only 100 urls indexed from 3500 submitted. Can you help me understand why and how I can fix this issue? The website has 4 years old, is a Joomla 3.3 up to date. It has part of the content in the Joomla core content systems and part in K2. Thank you. Pablo

Conflicting numbers in Google Analytics
I am getting 2 completely different numbers in Google Analytics.According to the graph on my Dashboard organic traffic decreased ~40% comparing June 7 -> June 6.However, when I dig a bit deeper and look at the 2 dates specifically compared to each other I get a `3% increase in traffic.When I look at the traffic on just June 7, I get the number indicating the increase.Any ideas or someone getting similar conflicting numbers??

Duplicate page content
I'm seeing duplicate page content for tagged URLs. For example:

http://www.dolby.com/us/en/about-us/careers/landing.html?onlnk=al-sc as well as PPC campaigns. We tag certain landing pages purposefully in order to understand that traffic comes from these pages, since we use Google Analytics and don't have the abiility to see clickpaths in the package we have. Is there a way to set parameters for crawling to exclude certain pages or tagged content, such as those set up for PPC campaigns?0 -
Google Analytics Myth?
Dear Moz-members, I have read several discussions regarding not to implement Google analytics on your website. Reason: Google is tracking your website behavior, for example you have a high bounce rate it will affect your rankings negative. See it as we are opening the doors too much to Google so it can have a negative impact on your online business, especially when your site is new and you are still building your credit. Because of this i have not chosen to install GA. What is your experience with this? Most of the time if i read analytics posts at Seomoz, people do have GA installed. I am also in doubt whether to switch over at GA, but then again mine site is relative new and i am still working on the negative bounce rate/daily visitors. Would like to hear from you pro's whether this is a myth or not 🙂 Thanks!

Google Analytics question
Hi, I recently relaunched my site on a wordpress CMS. The relaunch has gone well except for a category of traffic within Google Analytics which is referral traffic from google.co.uk (its a UK site) which has dropped off hugely. The non-paid search traffic from google.co.uk is the same or better than it was. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between referral traffic from google.co.uk and non-paid search traffic from google.co.uk. Thanks for your help. Ben
