On site SEO opinions
-
Hi all,
I have been testing different configurations for my on-site SEO for a while now and I think I am pretty much there.
However it is always nice to know what other SEO's think about my keyword density and usage.
My site is http://www.tomlondonmagic.com
I am curious as to what you think regarding landing page content, whether you need lots or text or little text? I have just removed links in the text as I feel I want to keep as much juice on my landing page as possible.
Thanks all!

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for pointing all of these issues out. You are right - it is important to make it obvious what I am doing and who I am. I am going to make a few changes and then let you know on this thread. Thank you for all of the advice, Tom

Magician London - Tom London is the overall headline for the home page. But it makes no sense to human beings and looks like a typographical error.
Your name is Tom London and you are a magician in London? Is that correct? It's certainly not obvious at first glance.
I'm afraid there's more. The site contains a large number of typographical and grammatical errors. Some words are randomly capitalized; it's country's, not countries; it's wit not whit; etc... The overall impression is poor and may be costing you clients. The whole site needs to be reviewed and corrected word for word.
I'd also recommend making the testimonials more prominent, either as a separate nav bar item or perhaps on a few of the interior pages. The footer mentions being a member of the Magician's Circle. Is that a big deal? If so, say so in a prominent place. Have you ever received media coverage? Again, say so. Do you have any videos? Include them, perhaps embedded in blog items.
None of this has much to do with SEO. But I think it will help with conversions. It would be a pity to have people actually find the site, but then not contact you because the site doesn't do a good enough job of representing who you are and what you do.
Update: Just saw that there is a video on the home page. I completely missed it, mistaking it for still, because the play button is so small.

As far as SEO advice... work on backlinks. MajesticSEO shows a lot of spammy backlinks as well as Open Site Explorer. That said you are ranked well in Google for relevant keywords.
Since your chosen keyword market is small (i.e. exact match keywords are less than 500 monthly Global searches), you're going to have to build more "need" in your market. That and start working strongly on conversion optimization. If you're getting approximate 250 monthly visitors from Google keyword traffic for "london magician" but only end up with 5% converting into customers, then work on getting your on-site proposition and call to action better so that you can convert more of the traffic you are already getting. Check out CrazyEgg and KISSMetrics to help with that.
Best of luck!

Hi John,
Thanks for that, I could never decide what should load first, the site or the slider.
I shall have a play aroundThanks, Tom

Nice website
Just one thing I noticed I would add a preloader to insure the Full Page Background Slider is loaded before the CSS and HTML on the home page.
As when I load the page the slider kicks in about 5 seconds later.
More website impresion advice than SEO though
Regards
John

Too Many Outbound Links on the Home Page - Bad for SEO?
Hello Again Moz community, This is my last Q of the day: I have a LOT of outbound links on the home page of www.web3.ca Some are to clients projects, most are to other pages on the website. Can reducing this to the core pages have a positive impact on SEO? Thanks, Anton

Mobile SEO vs. Usability - SinglePlatform
I have a restaurant client that we're setting up with SinglePlatform.com to distribute their menu and make sure all of the restaurant sites have updated information for their business. As part of SinglePlatform's service, they offer a mobile site. Normally we would just create a mobile site and make sure that it's optimized but this client isn't ready to invest in a customized mobile site yet. The mobile site we can get with SinglePlatform is very simple. Call, Menu, Address, View Full Website, Photos, General Info. I know this would make it much easier for mobile users to find information and contact them but it's not mobile best practices. Whatever main page they land on would redirect them to the home page of the mobile site (i.e. not a 1 to 1). We also won't have any Google Analytics information for this site. The question comes down to usability or SEO? I'm leaning toward the mobile site for now and sell them on a customized solution later. I guess I'm just looking for some verification or any insight. Is it better to redirect a url or set up a landing page for a new site?
Hi, One of our clients has got a new website but is still getting quite a lot of traffic to her old site which has a page authority of 30 on the home page and has about 20 external backlinks. It's on a different hosting package so a different C block but I was wondering if anyone could advise if it would be better to simply redirect this page to the new site or set up a landing page on this domain simply saying "Site has moved, you can now find us here..." sort of idea. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks

Time On Site and SEO?
Does time on site impact rankings? If a person visits your site from the serps or directly visits it by typing in your name in the search field and then leaves within a minute, will that impact your serps? What is the best way to increase time on site?

Why do site links appear under one keyword and not another? Any ideas?
Hi everyone, I have a client whose website is doing the strangest thing. When I search the branded keyword (the company name), Google doesn't show any site links under the result. However, when I search for the company name plus Inc., I do get site links. Now, the website is ranking first in both searches, so that's not the issue. And, as near as I can tell, the site only contains one or two uses of the company name plus the word "inc." Most of the text on the page and all of the meta data only uses the company name, and most of the links that connect to the site use only the company name as well. Even the Who Is for the site doesn't use the term "inc." And ideas what might be going on? I know Google says that the process is still automated but for the life of me I can't figure out what kind of automated process would result in these results. Thanks! Megan (Rebecca's minion)

Best Way To Have HD Videos On Site That Will Work On Mobile Devices
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I am working on a site for a client who works at a video production company. They want to have a fair few HD videos on there site but also for the site and videos to be viewable on mobile devices. I have got a responsive wordpress theme and the site is beginning to take shape. I am wondering however how I can best get the videos to display on mobile devices while maintaining a good load speed. Until now I have been using amazon S3 which stores and feeds the videos and I use Easyvideoplayer to embed the videos. The problem is they do not appear to show up from mobile devices when using wordpress. can anyone suggest the best way for me to still feed the videos from S3 but get them to display on mobile devices. oh, they are private videos so they cannot be placed on youtube.

Avoiding duplicate content with multi-lagusage site
Hi, We have a client in China that is looking to create three versions of the same website, English, Chinese and Korean. They do not want to use a translation plugin like Google translate, preferring to have the pages duplicated. What is the best way to do this bearing in mind that the site needs to be found in all three languages. Would also appreciate if anyone knows of a good hosting company that has English support on the Chinese main land. Thanks Fraser

Finally have a budget for a great seo ecommerce site but need help choosing wordpress, joomla, modx, magneto or? Thank you in advance for your generosity of time
We finally have a budget and want to dump our intuit/homestead site www.originalartbroker.com Our budget is 5k-10k but could do more if needed. I am slowly catching my competition with this homestead site that I built. But I do realize it is time to step back, figure out what is best, and hire a pro to get the job done. I am green in the seo and web development arena so please go easy on me and please help to point me in the right direction. Just went out on a limb a couple years ago playing with homestead.com site software and built what we have today. Didn't know anything about website development...it sort of just happened. I feel and know that homestead.com solution is hindering what we could be doing due to the bloated nature of the site and inability to perform such task as 301 redirects etc.... I have been able to slowly attain first page seo rankings on keywords based of the artists we carry using this po-dunk homestead platform to build my site after a ton of work education thanks to seomoz and a lot of you. But, have never asked for help and could really use some generosity of time in explaining a solution that would work best for our business. Do we just go with a wordpress site that is similar to our current setup and use their plugins? Do we use a cms software solution like magneto or joomla? We will only have 200-300 pieces at any given time. We are constantly selling and buying new pieces providing us content. We are need of a site that can perform well in terms of seo. I have heard of a lot of people talking about joomla, wordpress, and magneto. Would like to be able to have a product catalogue that ultimately sends whatever inventory we are uploading to our social sites and blogs so I don’t have to pump the product out to all of these sites. We offer free custom framing with our pieces and it would be nice to have a program that could wrap the photos of the pieces with the different frames for our customers. When I add a new piece I would like this software to have a predesigned product page that it plugs the information into. I would like it to create the url extension based of the artists name, medium used, and piece name to create unique and individual urls. I would like it to also create its own H tags throughout that product page according to the artist name description, and medium used. I would like to be able to sink this up to google merchant and other sites to carry our product. Bottom line is we sell art. We sell pieces by specific artists. We are constantly buying and selling. I need something powerful that keeps up with our content
