Local SEO NAP - Two Different Cities....Same Zip Code
-
I've come across this recently and wanted to get your thoughts.
I personally live in a city called Greenacres (yes, it's the place to be) but my zip code is also for Lake Worth. I'm a local SEO company so doing Local SEO stuff is pretty pointless (Google changed that in 2010) but I am sure other people have this issue for their business.
Question,
What do you do when your zip code is for two different cities. Do you try to make all NAPs (Name Address Phone Numbers) the same city. What if you cant'? Does having the NAP show up different cities hurt your efforts? etc. Obviously I think you'd try to keep the NAP as consistent as possible but what do you do if the citation source changes it or only uses the major of the two cities?
There isn't a right or wrong answer (or maybe there is) but I wanted to get some thoughts on it.
Darin.

Hi Vz,
Yes, I do think this could cause problems. It seems you are not actually having to solve an issue like this, but are just curious about it. In my opinion, this is the type of issue one would either need to take up with the RERs at the Google Map Maker Forum (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/map-maker), or try to get direct help with from Google staff at the Google Data Issues phone number (http://support.google.com/places/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1386120&page=ts.cs). Additionally, it might be necessary to talk to whichever directories are automatically changing the city name to see if something can be done about this. Inconsistent NAP is a major issue, so resolution, if possible, would be very important.

Yes, you have my question correct. I am an SEO so I don't do local citations but I was just thinking that a person who is in my city would have the same problem. So my question is how to handle this. As another example I worked with a plumber in Coconut Creek before and their listing was changed to Pompano Beach on YP.com. Coconut Creek used to be part of Pompano but became it's own city not to long ago. Do you think that would be a problem with the NAP since the city won't be the same?

Hi vzPro,
I want to be sure I understand your question. Are you saying that in trying to create citations for Greenacres businesses, indexes/directories are automatically changing the city name to Lake Worth? If so, it could be that Greenacres is not a recognized city name, in the eyes of these indexes/directories. This was my first thought, as I believe I've seen a similar situation reported in the Google and Your Business Forum.
However, I did a simple Google search for 'shoe store greenacres fl' and Google is showing me some local Greenacres results, but they are mixed with Lake Worth results and one West Palm Beach result, interestingly. So, Greenacres appears to exist in Google's index of cities. This begs the question: if not on Google's local product, then on which product are you experiencing this issue of the city being automatically changed, if I have correctly described what you are experiencing?
When oddities like this arise, typically the best thing to do is to get in touch with a Google Mapmaker RER to see if they can help clarify Google's view of the geography. Please, feel free to provide further details.

How .com and .me effect SEO?
Hi, We have a project https://www.shipwaves.me/ and https://www.shipwaves.com/ and however if we are doing SEO for .me domain - is this give early results like as .com domain. I'm not sure that .me is in the category of .me domains. Well, if we are following the same strategy as like following for .com domains - is that the results will be the same or not. Also, in terms of any additional strategy to be done to make the SEO little faster for the .me domain. Guys, please share your thought on this.

Different versions of keywords. Which one to optimize?
For some keywords, we have slightly different versions available. For example: people search for 'webhosting', but also for 'web hosting'. Same for 'cloudserver' and 'cloud server'. I used google trends to compare the keywords and find the more popular one. But in different countries, different keywords are searched more often. So we can't really optimize for the BEST version of the keyword, since there is no real BEST version. What would you suggest to do? We could also just develop pages for both keywords, but that could end in duplicated content. Would be an option to use canonicalization then, but this would not really improve ranking for one of the versions. I'm very confused. If anyone has a good idea on how to optimize here, please let me know. Thank you in advance! Best regards

What is your experience with markups (schema.org) in terms of SEO and best practice learnings?
Hi, I am looking to implement schema markups into a variety of websites and currently wondering about best practices. I am working on energy providers, building material, e-retailers, social association among others. While I understand every single one of these is an individual case, I could do with some advices from you, guys. Which markups would you consider key for search engines? I would have naturally chosen markups to highlight the business name, location and products but there is so much more to schema.org! Thanks,

International foreign language SEO questions
I'm looking to add some foreign language pages to a website and have a lot of international SEO questions. I think the overall question is can you do SEO yourself if you are a native English speaker for a language you don't speak (like Chinese)? 1. How do you go about doing keyword research for a foreign language? What tools are available? 2. How do you know what search engines you should optimize for in a different country? And where can you find the technical SEO requirements for each? I'm wondering things like title tag length for Baidu. Or is the Title length different for Yahoo Japan vs. US? Do you write titles and meta tags in Chinese/Japanese for respective countries? Etc.

Title changed in local pack, unchanged in local plus?!
Google seems to have pulled the title from the homepage and put that as the title in the local pack in the SERP for my targeted keyword. The local plus page title remains unchanged. Any way to influence this back to the way it was? The local plus title looks much better in results (even though it's just the brand name (which is the same as the domain name) and not the city + industry).

After optimising for SEO my ranking went down...
Hello, My website was ranking for over 100 keywords but was not really optimised properly. For example, the page title was much too long, it was segmented like this: "keyword - Category - domain " I followed recommandations in SEOMOZ and I removed the domain and category from the long page titles to only leave the keyword and updated the H1 to reflect also the keyword. We dropped in ranking since even though we did not change anything, only made things more SEO optimised. I don't understand how it made us drop in ranking?? David

Did Google Just Punish Organic For Showing Up In Local?
Google pushed the local search results in a prominent spot on a ton of search results. That means (for me) that all first page rankings (including a lot of 1st place rankings) have completely disappeared. Subfolders still rank and homepage still ranks where local search is not included. This is weird. Is this a glitch or is there something we can do about this?
