Mentions without links
-
Just curious, is there any SEO value if another site/blog mentions my site but doesn't create a hyperlink. My site happens to have a lot of amateur bloggers who write "we used TVFoodMaps for our trip" but don't actually link to my site. I'm wondering if that does anything for my SEO value and should I contact them and ask for the reference to be turned into a link?
Thoughts?

There's a definitely value. If that mention was "we used TVFoodMaps.com for our trip", that's better and if it's a link, it's even better.
All that combines, makes up for a Natural Link Profile :).
I hope this helps.

We were just talking about that the other day, check the following thread:

Now, if you manage to turn some of those mentions to live links, that could be great too!
Cheers!

Outgoing links
Hi Guy's, We have a website with no outgoing links (only Facebook). Is this a good way to score better in the SERPS? Or is it better to have some outgoing "relevant" links for a natural linkjuice? Thanks!

Linking Etiquette
Hi Moz Community, Long time lurker, first time poster. I work for a real estate firm and have recently done some link analysis. I'm noticing that my company is not getting linked to as frequently as we should be. Several news outlets (including NYT & Bloomberg) have cited our reports, interviews with employees and other original content belonging to my company without linking back to our site (although they do mention us). Some publications are even linking back to our competitors for similar content but not ours. Is it appropriate to reach out and ask for links from these outlets after they've been published? Does anybody have tips on making others aware we want links shared for future articles? Thanks in advance!

Which Links to Disavow!
We just took over SEO for a new client who is being penalized for a bad link profile. They've asked Google to reconsider multiple times, and Google still claims that the links are bad. Because of this, and because I don't have direct access (logins, etc.) to what the former SEO did, I am considering using the disavow links tool. The most obvious links to disavow are a group of almost 1000 links that come from the same forum. However, when viewing the links on this forum they actually seem natural. People are reviewing the product (ipod cases), both negatively and positively. While this could have been an SEO tactic for link building, I don't want to disavow these links if they're not the problem, even though this domain is the source of almost all the low-quality links. Another site that has more than 200 links is Askives. Do any of you have experience with links from Askives, or removing these links? Thanks again!

How do websites get links here...
Does anyone know how people get into the "Top Links on This Topic" section of the Huffington Post? I can see that the "Around the Web" section is curated by someone, in this case "Jeff Muskus" but there is no indication how the Top Links on This Topic appear on a page. The only thing I noticed is that the original article appearing in HP is almost a year older than any of the referenced links. Where to link to? .com or extension
Hi everyone. Just a quick question as its really confusing me. When link building it appears I have been linking unknowingly it seems to 2 different web address's http://www.chamonixfirst.com and http://www.chamonixfirst.com/en/home/ I'm very new to this but if you look at the link info for these two different address they have different scores. Have i just halved all the link building i have done so far? When you search for us on the net its the .com site that appears but the .com/en/home/ has better trust etc. So i guess the question is, for future linking which address should we be linking to ? .com or .com/en/home/ Many thanks Phil

Building Links
Hi everyone, I am new to SEO and in the process of building links the clean way. Any suggestions on how exactly I can find websites that are linking out to quality websites already? I went thru most of my competitors link building strategy - and 90% of their links are done either thru link exchange or paid links. So looking at my competitors strategy does not really help. So I need to find websites/blogs/forums that are ready to link to me if I can show them some useful content. How do I find these websites first? Please help! Cheers! Arjun
