Can underscore blanks trigger home page bounce rates
-
Buongiorno from 8 degrees C Wetherby UK
On this site the scrolling banner has been hyperlinked with underscore blank causing new pages to open when a user clicks on a banner. My question is please...
"If a user clicks on a banner will Google measure this as a home page bounce" ( I dont think it will i just want to be 100% sure)

David,
No it would not, UNLESS the user doesn't click on any more links on the homepage. Really, a bounce is calculated based on whether or not there was more than one pageview of a site in a single session, not whether or not the user left. GA (without doing some custom work) doesn't even know the user has clicked on an external link.
Edit: My apologies. I misread your question. I thought you were saying that the banner click was a click off to another site. Still, the answer stands.
As long as the GA snippet exists on the 2nd page, it will trigger a pageview and look like the 2nd pageview in the session, meaning it's not a bounce.

Which page speed tools do you trust?
We are at a loss. We have been following Google Pagespeed Insights which gives us horrible marks. Nothing we do seems to really make a difference. GTMetrix and Pingdom give us much better scores. We don't know what to do...

Will noindex pages still get link equity?
We think we get link equity from some large travel domains to white label versions of our main website. These pages are noindex because they're the same URLs and content as our main B2C website and have canonicals to the pages we want indexed. Question is, is there REALLY link equity to pages on our domain which have "noindex, nofollow" on them? Secondly we're looking to put all these white label pages on a separate structure, to better protect our main indexed pages from duplicate content risks. The best bet would be to put them on a sub folder rather than a subdomain, yes? That way, even though the pages are still noindex, we'd get link equity from these big domains to www.ourdomain.com/subfolder where we wouldn't to subdomain.ourdomain.com? Thank you!

SEO Working GREAT! Although Keyword Rankings Only Directing to Home Page.
Since I've become a fellow MOZer I've seen an increase on my sites and proud to say that ALL of my clients have now accomplished 1st page rankings on at least 2 of their top 3 keywords. Yes, I am as stoked as them. Although I am a bit worried because as I rank keywords and test them on Google and engines alike all of our rankings direct to the homepage. I am essentially new to SEO. So as happy as I am to be doing something right I'm worried I'm losing the end user. By having them need to Search our site/menus/blog for the keywords/phrase that got them to us will turn most searchers away. They want the content now. What am I doing wrong? My pages are pretty specific so I never cared to use rel-canonical's...I dont have duplicate content, other than your typical footer/side bar consistent info. So I'm curious where I've gone wrong. Little history on my sites: I Use Joomla 2.5 & 3.x. I manage seo details through sh404seo. I've cleaned all duplicates I can up other than what these dynamic cms generate by just using one. I've done fairly well and all my pages rank A for moz's onpage grader for the keyword optimized around. Any help is appreciate, THANK YOU!

800,000 pages blocked by robots...
We made some mods to our robots.txt file. Â Added in many php and html pages that should not have been indexed. Well, not sure what happened or if there was some type of dynamic conflict with our CMS and one of these pages, but in a few weeks we checked webmaster tools and to our great surprise and dismay, the number of blocked pages we had by robots.txt was up to about 800,000 pages out of the 900,000 or so we have indexed. 1. So, first question is, has anyone experienced this before? Â I removed the files from robots.txt and the number of blocked files has still been climbing. Â Changed the robots.txt file on the 27th. Â It is the 29th and the new robots.txt file has been downloaded, but the blocked pages count has been rising in spite of it. 2. I understand that even if a page is blocked by robots.txt, it still shows up in the index, but does anyone know how the blocked page affects the ranking? Â i.e. while it might still show up even though it has been blocked will google show it at a lower rank because it was blocked by robots.txt? Our current robots.txt just says: User-agent: *

GA: How can non related kws show up in the organic report?
Hi mozzers, I have a site A: Â www.example.com (with its own branded kws) SiteB: subdomain.example.com Site A and B are related and belong to the same company. Site B was released a couple months ago. ISSUE: I have noticed branded kws from Site A showing up on Site B's GA which doesn't make any sense. I try to make searches in the SE with those kws and not a single search showed the Site B(subdomain). What is weird is that 2 months ago had a an issue with bounce rate on site B showing a 0% bounce rate, then I discovered that we had 2 GATC on site, removed the extra code and bounce was back to normal. Since then I have seen a rise of branded kws from Site A to Site B. Can someone help me here figuring out what is wrong? Thanks

If a page bounces in the woods, can Google Panda hear it?
I have read that after the Panda update a site's bounce rate is an important ranking metric. Â However, can anyone confirm whether all pages count equally? Â For instance, my home page gets 5000% more traffic than Deep Page X. Â If Deep Page X has a poor bounce rate, does it matter as much as if my Homepage has a bad bounce rate? I am guessing not, but wanted to open it up for discussion. If not, it has me wondering on what to do for some of my database driven content. Â I have some dynamically created pages that have higher bounce rates and minimal unique content. Â They aren't pure spam or junk, but are likely only about 1% unique from one another. Sounds like a no brainer change post-Panda, right? Â Well, what if I was the only one targeting the keywords for these pages? Â The pages pull from info I stored on the U.S. government stimulus program (related to my industry). Â It then has just about every city, state and county combo in the country for my product. Â For instance, a page <title>might be "Flemington, NJ Widgets - Somerset County". Â Something that no one else is targeting and drives minimal traffic.</p> <p>Â </p> <p>Do I take this content down? Â I didn't have any affects, positive or negative from Panda, so I am hesitant to take down thousands of Google cached pages.</p></title>

Analytics bounce rate change
Hi mozzers, I have a little riddle. A few weeks ago the bounce rate on one of our website dropped 90% - from 45 % average to 5 % average. We haven't changed much in the code of the site, layout or anything else. The traffic is pretty stable too. Anyone can guess why? Or have experienced something similar? xOvrb.jpg
