Linking to Media Mentions
-
I'm doing SEO for a high-profile lawyer who has received numerous media mentions. My hope is that linking from her site to these media mentions will enable Google to make the connection. The difficulty is that their business name is their own name. I'm thinking this will make it harder for Google to make the connection. It's not appropriate to request links from the articles (they typically relate to murder trials). Any suggestions?

Have you heard the PT Barnum quote, "I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right."? That's going to be a factor here. While the obvious ideal is to get a link from the article, as you mentioned it may not be appropriate and the client may not be comfortable with those types of requests. If the name is fairly unique, eg "Meiers and Young, LLP", then it's likely that Google can make an association over time using concepts like co-occurence. While that's not likely to be as strong as a link, it does likely provide some value in sending those citation signals to Google.
To make better use of that press, I would typically add a page such as www.client.com/press/ or www.client.com/in-the-news/ that lists those press mentions in reverse chronological order, and feel free to link directly to them if you think it actually provides value to potential clients viewing your site.

If they are mentioning your client’s business even without a link so you are getting the benefit of citation but as far as the links and SERP visibility is concern the idea is to be creative, launch something news worthy on your client’s website and then contact all the journalists to and then ask them the link on previous articles where your client is already available.
Obviously going directly to ask for a link will be inappropriate but making something up for journalists will allow them to take interest in you and then you can easily come to the point.

This should be a good credibility building third party source of google queries for interested parties thus no need to really link to them. Maybe you could comment on the articles if possible or encourage the lawyer to write articles in publications and link them as a contributor using Google + to both their website and the article in various publications.
-
If you link to those articles you are flowing pagerank to them, but you are not getting anything in return. The best would be to contact those article writers and ask for a link. Even if the articles are about murder trials, she is a lawyer, therefore related to murder trials. You can ask a backlink on the name or "lawyer" or whatever word refers to her and her job.

Links not showing
Hi, we have been putting links to our website www.caffeinemarketing.co.uk from other sites we are connected to. Although these sites are up and running and have been crawled, the links are not showing up on mot. What else do I need to do? Is it anything to do with whether I put http://www. or just www. Please can someone advise.

Internal Linking - Post links vs Side Bar Links behaving differently
Hi, I have a question regarding the internal linking behavior. My website is www.hindimeaning.com which is approx 3 years old. I have approx 450 posts. Now i have a widget on right sidebar "Popular posts". A widget below my posts "Related Posts". And a simple html CSS menu above the posts (I removed menu around 6 month before so currently it will not show.) I crawled my site with moz crawler (same are the result from google crawler as well) and it shows menus links as internal links. While sidebar widget "Popular posts" and "Related Posts" are not showing as internal links. If we talk theoretically what i learn till now is "every link on a page behaves as internal link". Then why the widget links are not showing as internal links. Thanks, Mahesh Kumar

AllTop Linking Me to Other Sites Feeds, Webmasters Reporting Lots of Broken Links
I submitted my blog to All Top awhile ago and something seems to be wrong with their feed. They're sending people to mysite.com/truth-o-meter.com/this-is-a-post. It's not just truth-o-meter either. I'm getting links that are supposed to go to all kinds of political blogs. As a result, I'm getting a ton of broken links reported on Google Webmasters. I couldn't find any real support option on alltop.com, and when I log in, there are no sites for me to manage. Instead, I resubmitted the site with the correct feed address and in the comments, I mentioned the problem. All I got was a message saying the site was rejected. I believe because I already added the site. But I'm thinking they didn't pay attention to the comments. (In fact the message may have gone through an auto-filter considering how quickly it was rejected.) Is there a way to solve this? Is this a situation in which I would use the disavow tool? If All Top continues to create bad links, how do I stop the issue once and for all? Thanks!

When buying used domains, how do i see the links pointing to that domain? OSE not showing links
when buying used domains, how do i see the links pointing to that domain? Sometimes the open site explorer doesn't show any links to the domain, especially if the domain is parked. Obviously a domain for sale with 1000 domains linking to it has lots of SEO Value right? Thanks mozzers!

What are inbound links worth after Panda and Penguin, since a site ranks for the NATIONAL keyword "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS!?!?
ARE INBOUND LINKS TODAY ALMOST WORTHLESS??!!? After having been the KING of SEO, down to the toilet? Today I got a great sample from a fellow SEO professional showing a site, rockymountainfurniture.com rank for "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS FROM 3 DOMAINS and a domain trust of 14!!!! ON A NATIONAL, VALUABLE, HIGH QUERY VOLUME KEYWORD!! I was stunned, but is this the "NEW SEO WORLD" we live in, so we should skip spending hundreds of hours on link building? There are over 32 different types of inbound links but this is much MORE than a radical change, this is turning SEO as it was up-side-down. Any input, thoughts, ideas?

Searching for links incognito?
Is it important to "cover your tracks" when searching for links? For example, would be it be a better idea to search for valuable links off of my companies network? If so, what are your strategies for stealth searching?

Free link on a Paid Link Blog
Hi there, I have been doing some outreaching, and managed to have a blog post accepted on a authority blog. They included links to my website, and I was very pleased with the placement. However, having browsed through the site, I was worried to see that they openly admit they allow 'reviews' of websites, with backlinks included, for $50 per review. I am worried I might be penalised without actually doing anything wrong. I did not pay for my link, but the link has been placed on a site which openly admits they accept payment for links. Should I be worried? Should I ask them to take it down? To date I have been told countless times by bloggers I am outreaching that if I pay $10, $50, $100 etc I can write a blog post. I have never accepted because of the risk of penalization. Now, unwittingly, I am linked to from a paid link site with a blog post that would look like I have paid for it because of the placement and style of back link. What do you think? Thanks,
