Paid for Yahoo Directory months ago, yet does not display in OSE
-
Hi Mozzers,
How long does it normally take for your yahoo directory link to show up in Open Site Explorer?
We signed up and got our link on dir.yahoo early January and still see nothing in OSE. Should I call them up and ask them to fetch the page for Google?
Get a refund?Helps!
Thanks! -
I just took a look and it looks like the page was last crawled less than 2 weeks ago.
I also looked in GWT and I actually see 7 dir.yahoo links!
Woot.
Thanks Nakul.

Hi,
As far as I know - based on feedback from several people, the Yahoo directory has a low crawl rate from Google bot - that means it can take some time for a link from Yahoo dir to show up.
More then that - OSE only covers a portion of the web and it might skip Yahoo Dir. if it's not in OSE it dosen't mean Google didn't find it though - there are a lot of older Yahoo dir links that are not showing in OSE.
If you post the Yahoo dir page where you have the link for sure me or someone else from here can have a more direct " dive " into this...
Hope it helps.

As an aside, by the time you get to renewal time for next year's listing in Yahoo, you may want to have already looked at other ways to spend that 300 bucks.

If you go to the URL where your directory listing is on dir.yahoo.com, and check the Google cache for that page, is that page cached ? When was it cached ? And do you see your URL on the cached version of that page ? If yes, you are getting the credit for it. You may or may not see it on OSE, because OSE only crawls a portion of the web.
Does that link show up in your Google Webmaster Console Links ? If yes, in either the cache or GWC or both, you are good and no need to worry.

Google not displaying meta description
Hi, one of my clients is receiving the following error in SERP - "A description of the page is not available because of this site's robots.txt". The site is built on WordPress and I realized that by default, the settings were checked to blocks bots from crawling the site. So, I turned it off, fixed robots.txt and submitted the sitemap again. Since, then it's been almost 10 days, the problem still exists. Can anyone tell me what should be done to fix it or if there's a way to get Google to recrawl the pages again.

Whats the best way to revive a directory that was 301'd and now I want to remove that?
Last year i 301'd one of my directories on my site, pointing everything to a different directory. Long story short I am going to sell this product line again and would like to just remove the 301 to that original directory, but I am reading that the 301s are also cached in most browsers for a long time. Has anyone successfully done this and if you did what was it that you had to do? Thanks Mike

Free Directories - Yes or No?
Clearly, we see that high authority directories like Dmoz.Org are effective, even if this big monster is practically dead because of how unresponsive it is. What about other free directories? Is it worth obtaining as many listings as possible in the free directories? what about the paid ones? Is this still good SEO strategy if the directories have at least a PR3-4 or many cases higher? I'm asking this for an established site, so I understand that it won't help for deep-linking and anchor text, but will it help anyway to get links from these? If you like this post, help me out by giving me a Big Thumbs Up!

SEOMoz Link Directory - As Silly as I think it is?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE SEOmoz, but their "Link Directory" (www.seomoz.org/directories) is a bit deceiving. I was looking for a list of DIRECTORIES that Moz recommends, not a bunch of places where you can pay for advertising. On top of that, it also lists dmoz as one of the spots to get links from, but have you ever actually ever been able to get a link from dmoz? I know I haven't, and we've been trying to get a link for years. Anyone else disappointed in this list? Does anyone have a good list of directories? -Andy P.S. I love you SEOmoz! Don't hate me for this critique!

Ranking & Traffic drops in last month
Over the last month, our rankings have been in a slow slide - that is until this week, when they absolutely crashed. Here are some example phrases: Phrase 11-Mar 5-Mar bug shields 24 9

Some things, like Warranty & Install instructions, are from the manufacturer to protect us from liabilities. We come up with our own feature text, and we have custom written articles, blog posts, research guides, etc. We also appear to be the only one of our competitors being affected in this fashion. Any thoughts would be helpful. Domain is realtruck.com.0 -
Is there a development solution for AJAX-based sites and indexing in Bing/Yahoo?
Hi. I have outlined a solution for an AJAX-based site in order to rank preserve indexing and rank in Google using the hashbang. I'm curious if anyone has some insight for doing the same for Bing/Yahoo! (a development question)
