Internal pages targeted for local keywords
-
Hello,
Simple question: how do you target local SEO with internal pages, where the home page may or may not be local?
-
A client of mine may only target 2 local keywords, where his home page is for national keywords and an internal page is for local. Is this even a good idea?

Bob,
Has your question been answered by the thoughtful responses on this thread? If not, could you please provide a bit more detail (like an example) so that we can work to get to the heart of the matter? Thanks!

Make those pages co-citation worthy and worth linking to from local directories and other local resources, just like you would do for a home page if you were trying to get that to rank for local terms. Be sure to use your geo-terms on those pages and use those terms in your internal linking.

I'm going to have to make some assumptions for this.
Lets take a florist in Boston as an example of an internal page. Once you've taken care of the on-page SEO (url, title tags, h tags, mentions in content and of course unique content) then I'd start looking for links from pages about both floristry and Boston. That should give a strong indicator of local and product relevance.
Where you can run into problems is when you have the same text with only minor changes for location. If you have a page about florists in Boston, one in New York, one in Dallas etc and the only text that differs between those pages is the location then you are going to have to rethink your site / database structure (Panda no likeee). Unique information is vital.
If on the other hand you are a florist with branches in each of those places then I don't see a problem with creating individual location pages, but again with unique content. I mean all unique, not substantially unique or slightly unique. In your google local you could use each branches internal url as the website url.
Hope that's of some help. You may have to be a bit more specific with your question though.

Switching from ranked PDF to normal page ...
Hi folks, I have a project which is ranking well for specific product-keywords. The problem is, that the ranking pages are PDF files of those products (datasheets). But i do have a normal (html) pages for each product as well. Each of these pages has grade a for the specific keyword and is well crawled, etc. How can I urge Google to "switch" from these PDF files to the specific html pages. I was trying this by testing it robots.txt to disallow to index the PDF file (I tested it with one for first). I would add rel=nofollow to the link to the PDF on the specifi product html page (?) ... Any ideas? Seb

Is it considered duplicate contentnt to post a video to youtube then embed that video on our website's FAQs page?
Essentially, I am answering popular questions we are asked and answering them in a video. Once I post it on youtube, I take the video, add it to our FAQ page, and when someone clicks on the question, a new page opens with the question, the video, and the written answer to the question underneath it. Thanks for any advice. watch?v=bwGRmvnCn7w

Thoughts on Google's New NAP Dispaly on Google+ Local
Hi, Do you think ACTION needs to happen based on Google's new NAP formatting change? They are changing Suite or STE to #. So for example 265 Racine Dr #100 Wilmington, NC 28403 Even if you enter in Suite they change it to pound. I am wondering the thoughts of the community of the following: 1. Do you think Google knows that STE, Suite, and # are all the same 2. Do you feel that we need to change ALL online local business listings and our website to match this change. 3. Here is the letter from Google on the matter FROM GOOGLE: Thanks for informing us about your address appearing differently on your local Google+ page than it does on your dashboard. After looking further, we've determined that 240 Stockton St #300 San Francisco, CA 94108 is an appropriate way for your listing to be displayed. Note that the address on your page might be different from what you've input into your dashboard. Our processes might alter user-input addresses to make them more standardized and easier for users to access. Thanks for understanding. Best, Nathan

Would listing an address on a location page for a franchise count as a citation?
If a small franchise with 15 locations implemented location pages for each location including address and phone then made them crawlable by the search engines and also accessible through a store locator, would this be counted as a citation for the location?
