Turkish Invasion? Massive influx of non-english traffic
-
Last month, a client of mine has had a very large increase in irrelevant traffic. This traffic is all being sent by Google from mostly eastern Europe, but also from Egypt and Brazil. The largest influx is from Turkey.
The traffic is all landing on only two URL's. The magnitude of this traffic is about 350 visits per day. The main keywords sending traffic are:
- müzik indirme programları (Turkish which translates to "music download programs")
- تحميل برنامج اوبرا (Arabic translates to "download Opera")
- program za skidanje muzike (Bosnian for "program for downloading music")
My client is a small nonprofit summer music festival (with a strong emphasis on Opera music) so some of the on-page at least relates to these keywords. But the site is entirely in English.
Since the words are related to a traditional sketchy vertical I'm worried that my client site has been hacked. Though, for the life of me, I can't imagine what anyone can gain from this.
My questions are:
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
What are the potential ramifications of this irrelevant traffic? (I'm worried about the traffic slowing down the site, I'm also worried that 350 visits per day and a 95% bounce rate is going to hurt my clients reputation with search engines)
What can be done about it?
Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Hi Everett,
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.
I think you are right that the main concern here is security. Great ideas on how to screen for this. There is no hacked message in the SERPs. I don't currently have access to the their GWT but will make it a priority. I did look at the source code in Google's cache and there is no sign of these terms. There is not a single instead of "download" which is a common characteristic to all these queries.
It could be just an algorithmic hiccup. The site does use some fancy characters to describe the Operas that they produce. One example is the "i" with grave accent in the Opera _Così Fan Tutte. _I suppose it is possible that with enough repetition of these types of characters Google may think the site has some relevant non-english content.
Thanks again for the thoughts. Hope everything is going well at seOverflow.

Hello Jesse,
I doubt 350 visits a day would slow down the site unless it is hosted on a shared server with a much-less-than-stellar hosting company. The high bounce rate on a few terms shouldn't affect rankings for the entire site, but would only affect those particular terms. If the bounce rate was that high on the majority of terms I'd be more concerned.
However, I do think you are correct to be suspicious of hacking. Have you tried looking at Google's cache of those pages, viewing the source of the cache, and searching for the phrases you are concerned with? Have you received any messages from Google either in the SERPs or in GWT related to the site being hacked?

Huge Traffic Drop after 301, Keyword and Schema.org Fixes
Hello there, I'm first gonna explain what I did to my website: I was using a 302 redirect to send from http to https, fixed it to a 301. My url has a keyword and I was using many pages with keywords as well. ex) www.keywordhaha.com/keyword-the-best , www.keywordhaha.com/keyword-easiest-on-keyword-market Changed it to : www.keywordhaha.com/app , www.keywordhaha.com/games, etc... I was not using any crawler tools, so I added Schema.org, Json-LD and rdfa-node, which are all working properly. Synced my page with our Google+ page, which was recognised by Google Added a proper logo and fb:admins, and was recognised by facebook. After I did all this optimisations, I experienced an immediate traffic drop (10%) and my impressions/clicks according to the webmaster tools dropped 75%, in a 2 day period. Any ideas where there could have been a mistake? mPdhFdG.png

Organic Traffic down after WordPress switch.
I recently switched our company's website over to Wordpress in February. Organic traffic went down.... http://www.screencast.com/t/dJ0Oeyma5Xs Same content, there are a few different page URLs but most of all it is all the same and I've SEO'd it to pieces. Any thoughts? I can't figure this one out.

Can anyone diagnose drop in organic traffic? (Screenshot attached)
I have an unexplained drop in google traffic on the 9th July. There are no messages in webmaster tools and no onsite or link building had taken place. In fact there were no changes at all. The only possible thing I can think of is that for some time I have had a problem where the bounce rate for my site was 95% plus in analytics. That data is wrong as the website is converting 1in 10 visitors and for them to convert the bounce rate would 90% (If EVERY other visitor bounced) as they have to visit several pages to do so. Any help appreciated! b457MPe.png

Why is my traffic dropping so hard?
Hi guys, My traffic has been dropping pretty hard from just over 3k to around 250 in the last few days. I've ran a few tests using Google webmaster tools and Open Site Explorer, as well as answering a pretty cool quiz that was created by an SEO to determine if I'm the victim of any Google updates etc, and everything is looking okay... What do you think could be causing this issue? We're only just gearing up to start on a SEO campaign. At the moment no SEO is being done other than just casual blogging. CcZoXP7.png

Help! Organic traffic decreased 75%.
Hi all, I've had fairly steady organic traffic to my website (www.toptienmobiel.nl) for the last 2 years. Since the beginning of march however I've noticed that the organic traffic was decreasing. Up until now my total organic traffic has decreased to about a quarter of what it was. It doesn't seem to be a penalty, since I still have most of my important keywords on the first page. They've decreased significantly though, mostly from the top 3 to 7+ position. Any idea on what may have been the reason for this sudden decrease? My link profile is still natural and I haven't done anything radical to the website concerning the backlinks or on-page elements. Could it be an algorithmic (Panda / Penguin) update? Thanks in advance!

Direct Traffic Source?
Hi all, Having some trouble figuring out a metric I'm dissecting. We have a large amount of traffic going to deep pages and I'm looking at the traffic source and an alarming amount are coming as Direct traffic. The thing is this can't type in or bookmarked traffic, so what else could it be? We have numbers like 80% and 60% for direct traffic, which judging by our previous efforts, that just can't right. Anyone can figure out what I may be missing out? Deeper pages should usually not get as much Direct traffic, so what can it be?

SEO traffic had significantly dropped
I know this question has been asked before, but I'm hoping someone can address my specific issue. We recently did a complete redesign of our site and moved it over to a new server. The site was even "down" for about a week, where we had a static splash page. However since relaunching (it's not been over two weeks) we've seen a significant drop in search engine traffic. We are using Yoast for Wordpress. The site is The Tech Block. Could anyone see if there is something we're doing wrong? Thanks
