Let's talk about Facebook Comments!
-
Have you seen Jen's post on the SEO Blog today about Facebook? I am really interested in testing out Facebook comments. Are any of you guys using them?
Here are my thoughts:
Benefits:
- Will make it easy for people to comment (assuming they have a facebook account)
- Their comments are shared on their wall and on their friends' news feeds so you could potentially get a LOT of exposure and traffic.
Potential Drawbacks:
- Who controls the content? If facebook decides to pull this feature will we lose all of our comments?
- What is the moderation like? Do I get to approve which comments are posted?
- Some people may be reluctant to comment if they know that their friends are going to see what they wrote.
What do you guys think? Are you going to use FB comments?
-
My concerns about this are... 1) Can search engines see the content?... and 2) what does moderation involve?
Here is what I found on the Facebook site about crawlability... (at this URL)
The Facebook comments box is rendered in an iframe on your page, and most search engines will not crawl content within an iframe. However, you can access all the comments left on your site via the graph API as described above. Simply grab the comments from the API and render them in the body of your page behind the comments box. We recommend you cache the results, as pulling the comments from the graph API on each page load could slow down the rendering time of the page.
For moderation... I am thinking that this will be another problem. Compared to allowing comments via wordpress this has the ability to send the comments out to a lot of people who use facebook. Huge upside there.
But I still will probably not use it because moderating the comments would pull me away from jobs that I feel are more important and that I would rather do. .... but that is just my perspective. May work much better for other people.

Company FB Page Automatically Friend-Requesting Admins' Contacts
Hola, So today we added 3 or 4 admins to our company FB page. Our company FB consists of a 'profile' and that 'profile' has create a FB 'page' for the business. All of a sudden, the profile (not the company 'page') started to get a new friends. We thought this was weird as we weren't using this for promotion, we were using the company FB page. Anyway, when we dug a little deeper, we found the profile had automatically sent friend requests to all of the admins' contacts (around 2,000 people!). When we checked the friend request page, we realised we can't cancel all the requests, they have to be done individually! Why would FB do this? It might not be so bad if it was actually inviting the admins' contacts to 'like' the business page, but it's just adding them to the main profile's friend list. The only solution we can find is to deactivate/delete the profile and keep the company page with all the admin attached. Any ideas on this one? It's very weird and now it just looks like our fleldgling business is spamming people! Cheers, Lewis

Facebook Graph Search
Hi All. Just wondering what your experience is with using Facebook graph search? I have a site that ranks highly for a good number of keywords on google, yahoo etc, but when you use the facebook graph search, it either doesnt show up at all or is buried away in page 5 or something. I'm talking about the 'Web Search' bit where it returns web results rather than searching for pages likes by my friends etc. Any thoughts? Why is my site way behind the competition in Facebook? I'm a white hat kind of girl and can't think what I might have done to offend! Have you come across any good resources advising how to optimise for facebook graph search for web? Thanks Jo

Google 'Author' tag question (Guest Blogging)
Hi, It seems like im seeing more and more about the Author tag, its now in Webmaster Tools and Google+. If your guest blogging, is it a good idea to include the Author link back to your Google+ account? If your Google+ account is also connected to your website and Google confirms they can see the connection does the Author links help with ranking when you push them back to the connected Google+ account?

Contacting Facebook
Does anyone know how to make meaningful contact with Facebook??? Last month I tried to set up a couple Facebook PPC campaigns for a couple clients only to find out that I can't because another client of mine for whom I set up a Facebook PPC campaign last fall has an outstanding balance of a whopping $30. To be clear, I was only an admin on the client's Facebook page. Their credit card (not mine) was in use, and they didn't pay their bill. So now, Facebook is holding that against me. I've contacted them through one of the help forms on the site. They clearly don't understand where I'm coming from. I've now sent them 3 emails, and now I'm not receiving a response. I just recently resorted to sending a direct message through Facebook to Facebook Marketing. No response. It really does boggle my mind how they're penalizing me, and in turn, my clients, because another former client of mine from nearly a year ago has a $30 balance. I'm not even an admin on the one client's Facebook page anymore?! With AdWords, I regularly have clients who owe Google money but that doesn't affect all of my other clients.

Ashton Kutcher talks about SEO?
Search for SEO in Twitter and top result says: "aplusk: I'm starting to become convinced that people put my name in articles just to improve their SEO or hoping I'll tweet it." When you click on the result it brings nothing! Another weird thing, when I search for the sentence and view cached Google result it immediately redirects (which is unusual and annoying). I managed to find a text only version of cache here. Can somebody please explain what's going on here?
