Should i disavow all backlinks?

I am facing a decline in my website over the past 90 days
Im wondering if this is due to the recent penguin update.
Can someone please give me some guidance?

This particular update was targeted at Google.co.uk so not sure if this would have particular impact on you. As it happens this is an area we are watching very closely as we work with some (legitamate) UK Payday loan companies, very interesting period there right now.

What do you guys think is the best way to remove bad backlinks,
or better yet, how do you identify a "bad backlink" versus a good one?

Google did recently release a "Payday Loan" update to punish quick loan sites, you may have been impacted by that. https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/1314225?hl=en-GB
By all means get rid of any bad links, but be careful not to disavow good links. That certainly wont help you out.

I'm going to start this response with an apology, i am unable to look at your site right now but the question title caught my attention and that's what i wanted to pop a quick response on here about.
You should not need to disavow an entire link profile, IF the ranking drop is link associated then it will relate to certain links, you need to identify the suspicious ones and remove these. now these may mean disavowing entire domains as explained in this post on SEO round table, but not everything.
Additionally the disavow tool should be used as a last resort. For suspicious links first attempt to contact a webmaster to get the links removed and document that communication. Only if this approach fails should you use the disavow tool. But there could be many reasons you are seeing a decline in rankings.

Backlinks on Moz not on Google Search Console
Moz is showing thousands of backlinks to my site that are not showing up on Google Search Console - which is good because those links were created by some spammer in Pakistan somewhere. I haven't yet submitted a disavow report to Google of well over 10K links because the list keeps growing every day with new backlinks that have been rerouted to a 404 page. I have asked Google to clarify and they put my question on their forum for an answer, which I'm still waiting for - so I thought I'd try my luck here. My question... If Moz does not match Google Search Console, and backlinks are important to results, how valid is the ranking that Moz creates to let me know how I'm doing in this competition and if I'm improving or not. If the goal is to get Google to pay attention and I use Moz to help me figure out how to do this, how can I do that if the backlink information isn't the same - by literally over 10 000 backlinks created by some spammer doing odd things... They've included the url from their deleted profile on my site with 100s of other urls, including Moz.com and are posting them everywhere with their preferred anchor text. Moz ranking considers the thousands of spam backlinks I can't get rid of and Google ignores them or disavows them. So isn't the rankings, data, and graphs apples and bananas? Website has a barrage of comment backlinks from 2011
When Google rolled out Panda and Penguin, I assume these links have been discounted and any site punishment has already happened. The website is performing well, however, just recently these comment backlinks have started popping up again as "new" backlinks on Ahrefs. Being "newly-found", will this have a negative impact on the website? Should we be worried about these and start disavowing or is it OK to ignore them? Thanks.

How long does it take Google to give value to a backlink?
Hi Once Google indexes your backlink does it pass value to that link straight away? Before i was under the impression once backlinks were created (providing they were good links) you wouldn't see any value or the serp climb for 6/10 months, is that still the case? Reason i ask is we're link building for a summer item and most if the back links are being indexed within a few days by Google. If the backlinks are given value by Google once indexed then we'll carry on till late summer. If its 6/10 months to be recognized we may start moving onto something else. Advice would be appreciated.

To disavow or Not to disavow is the question?
OK, I have done some analysis of my site and it seems quite clear that I have been hit by Penguin and this is largely down to my link building strategy. My question now is; 1. Do I try to undo the damage by disavowing toxic links I have identified, or 2. Do I just accept what is and ensure that from here on in I follow natural backlink acquisition? Thanks

Backlinks in client website footers - best strategy?
I work for a web design & development agency. We are looking to rank for 'web design' and 'web development'. Typically we have a credit in the footer of every site we build (below). We have a lot of backlinks (>60,000) this way. web design and development by We link 'web design and development' and '<our name="">' separately.
