Updating Over 100 Local Listings - Cleaning Local Profile and Upload Questions
-
Hello.
I'm currently updating over 100 places in Google Local Listings
They have approximately 300 listings already in the account, with approx. 100 of them already verified.
The amount of 'True' locations is around 130.
In order to provide maximum, appropriate NAP data, I need to update the 100 as well.
So, my question is in multiple parts -
1. How do I override and update the current locations in bulk? It doesn't appear that there's a way. Every time I upload a datafeed, it gets a new listing.
2. Because of all the listings in various states of verification, (Over 200), is there an easy way just to clear them out that's NOT manual?
3. Is there a way to export all CURRENT locations? The datafeed download only contains items which are trying to be updated..there doesn't appear to be a way to export all current data.
Thanks for any help you can provide about a project of this size is appreciated.

Hi Web Talent,
If you managed to get direct support from Google on this, there is a chance you could hang onto your reviews, but I wouldn't count on it. Reviews are so flighty. Reviews are supposed to be associated with a specific location, so I would like to think they would stick to the listing, but having watched review issues run rampant for years, I would call them the most unpredictable facet of Google's local product.

Thank you Linda & Miriam -
I'm glad I'm not researching a question that's already been readily answered :).
I appreciate your suggestions and will try to follow up here as I find solutions.
There are lots of other internal branding issues as well that have to be ironed out before promoting the locations across the Internet - ones that I am encountering now.
Ultimately, I may have to clear the account, including the verified pages/account, and start from a fresh upload.
Would either of you happen to know, if I choose to delist an approved, visible location within my Google Places dashboard - one that is receiving traffic but should still have some information updated, and then I use the upload function to re-populate my entire dashboard with the CORRECT data I'd like verified for ALL locations...are there any implications to this? I'm assuming, since some of the originals were done in Google Local - I may lose things like reviews? Or will Google be able to unify the places internally after the upload is approved?
Thank you both either way!

Hi Linda,
Thanks so much - and for the general knowledge of the members here - Mike is Mike Blumenthal. He would certainly be an awesome person to consult with for any Local problems. Some enterprising newcomers to Local SEO should see from what Linda and I are saying that there is space in the sphere for someone who specializes in bulk issues. I bet if you specialized in that, you'd be flooded with business!
-
Thanks Miriam,
Not sure he specializes per se, but Mike does work with feeds or consults helping with problems on them. Of course when it comes to all things local "The Professor" has most of the answers. But besides him I don't know of anyone that's really a specialist in that area.

So sorry wish I could help but bulk is the one thing I don't deal with. I find there are not many consultants that know about/work deeply with bulk uploads either and from all the questions I get about it at my forum I know it's not an easy or straightforward process.
Have you posted at the Google Business forum? Myself or one of the other Top Contributors can escalate it to Google if no one knows how to help.
Also have you tried phone support? If you can get someone on the phone that understands bulk, that may be your best bet. From the feedback I get it sounds like most of the phone support reps are somewhat entry level, but maybe they can get you to someone?

G+ Profile and Pages won't let me list categories
Hi Mozzers, I'm working on a client's G+ profile and sub-pages and the competition all have one simple category - 'House Clearance'. When you start typing there is a drop down and this category isn't present for us? Nowhere near. This is what the client does and I can't work out howe to get it in the page? Anyone else had this problem. Thanks Gareth

Link building to Google+ profile: any local SEO value?
Has anyone found value in building links to Google+ profile for local seo rankings? My gut tells me that it will, but I am not 100% sure. If it does, then does that mean that all the traditional SEO factors that would go into ranking a site organically also work for ranking locally for certain keywords? So far, I have found that the best thing for moving up rankings is reviews on Google+, but then does that make local SEO (from a high view point) just a race for high reviews and building the most citation? I am feeling like the differentiator for local SEO is UN-structured citations and links to Google+ profiles. Any thoughts? See you at MozCon!

How businesses get local citations without submitting them?
How do some businesses get listed in directories like YellowBook, SuperPages, MerchantCircle, etc. without submitting their information. For example, my dad's company listed themselves in YellowPages and Google Places years ago, but also show up in the ones listed above without having submitted the information to them or having paid anyone else to do it...

Any tips for optimising for Local Search/Google Places
I have a client that used to come up on Google Places consistently for some very competitive keywords - when they ranked quite low for them through their normal website - places would see them above all the organic results in normally number 2 position - whereas they would rank between 16 - 26 normally We have optimised the site and have 'A' grade keywords for the ones we are interested in google placing for and just recently we are out of it all together, even though we have improved their optimisation for that word with SEO Someone said that their phone number on the website had to match perfectly with google places and so does their address. Is this true? Is there anything else that will help them keep their position in places ? ie. setting up a Google + page etc., Any advise would be appreciated thanks

Multiple Store locations Google Local
Hey there, Is it best to create an individual page for each store location? Or is it best to create one page and plot different locations? Thanks, Dan

Our site is showing up #1 for most terms with a blended local listing, but no longer in the organic listings
...after some SEO updates were made. While I am ecstatic about a #1 local listing, I am concerned that we aren't getting that second organic listing on even the top 50 results! Besides improving the content and SEO on the inner pages with the hopes to get them to rank, does anyone have any suggestions for what we are doing wrong? We (dm-remodel.com) are ranking well for things like "ann arbor kitchen remodeling" and "ann arbor bathroom remodeling" Thank you very much for any help!!

Setting Up Localized City Pages and Duplicate Content issues
We are setting up landing pages on our site that will cater to specific cities, in an effort to be more relevant to the users in those cities and also capture more localized traffic. These regional pages will each have a unique paragraph at the top, but below that is a sentence or two about each product line that would be difficult to rewrite with quality more than 10 - 15 times. Would the paragraph at the top of the page be enough unique content (about 4-5 sentences)? Obviously the duplicate content wouldn't be to my advantage, but is it really necessary to rewrite the other sentences about the product lines? What's the most efficient method to complete this project in a whitehat fashion?
