Can't seem to rank for keyword "home care grand rapids" - need some advice
-
I am trying to rank for "home care grand rapids" and am having a really difficult time. My site: http://healthcareassociates.net has better backlinks, keywords and other seo markers than my competitors but I still can't seem to rank.
The keyword and associated keywords (home care grand rapids michigan, home health care grand rapids, etc.) are only 31-33% difficulty and my site/page rank is better than the leading sites. What gives?

Thanks for the lead. I think I may contact her. It looks like they do free consultations to start off with.
I am trying to change the Title tag in the settings of Wordpress and it says, "Home Care Grand Rapids Michigan - Health Care Associates". I don't know why the extra "Home" tag is automatically being put in there or how to remove it.

I don't do local search because all of my sites compete nationally.
If I needed my sites to rank for local search I would hire Miriam Ellis, Moz member and Moz associate (if she is available) to help me get set up properly and begin promotion. I don't think that the cost would be that high and I would have it done quickly, properly and efficiently. This is too important to take the chance of an improper set-up - at least that is my opinion. This could probably be done via gotomypc or other computer sharing - so you can see what is being done.

Hi Mihai,
Thanks so much for the info. Maybe I am using Open Site Explorer wrong. I type in "home care grand rapids" in Google and pull off the top 4 pages and put them in OSE. Then I look at the results and see that my site is 2nd in page authority, 3rd in total links, 1st in total linking root domains, etc. Seems like it is doing well compared to the others.
Also, you say to get good references. For a different fitness site I had I could easily find other bloggers to guest post for but in the home health industry it seems like there aren't any bloggers. How do you get quality back links when there aren't other bloggers?
Thanks again. Very much appreciate it.

Thanks Egol,
I appreciate the recommendations and will definitely make them.
What else would you do for local search? I have secured and verified my Google place page and other business listings and am working on getting reviews for them. Any other ideas?

Hey Lori,
It seems you're on ranking on the second page of results on Google. Except one or two, all your competitors have better metrics including Domain Authority, Linking Root Domains and number of links. You'll just need to keep getting good references and citations, and you'll slowly move up the ladder.
Hope that helps, good luck!

Change title tag from this....
<title>Home - Home Care Grand Rapids Michigan - Health Care Associates</title>
To this....
<title>Home Care in Grand Rapids Michigan - Health Care Associates</title>
I believe that google is seeing the first instance of "Home" and associating that with "Homepage".
================================
THEN.... get your target query "Home Care in Grand Rapids" in the text of your homepage - preferably in the prominent text at the top of the page.
=================================
This will be an improvement but I doubt that it will be enough to fix your problem. I don't think that your links are competitive.
================================
If I owned this website I would put my big effort into local search.

Can the end of a competition cause a drop in organic visitors?
Hi everyone, Over the last six months I've been running a few competitions on my largest site, but noticed a very large decrease in organic sessions just after the third one ended. For reference, the site is ~10 years old and gets a couple of million sessions per month.Organic sessions throughout last year and before the holiday periods were around 800k/month, which then increased by 50% during the holiday period alongside a competition I ran.These competitions double the pages per session and add another 1.5 minutes onto session duration. At the end of one of the competitions this year, daily organic sessions halved overnight and are now below the baseline of last year - and not improving. Some possible causes include; Google update - unlikely, because the date of the drop doesn't coincide with any increase in SERP volatility that I can find The extremely quick overnight drop in engagement (pages/session and session duration falling back to pre-comp baseline) caused Google to believe our site to be less popular and thus less deserving of rankings Visitors who've been bombarded with month-long competitions are sick of seeing them and are not searching for my site so often Email tagging - in the week before, UTM tracking parameters were added to all emails (of which there are a lot of subscribers) - as the number of Email visitors in Analytics increased, Organic did slightly decrease at the same time. I think this is unlikely, but I wonder if somehow some of our email visitors were previously being classed as Organic as well as some being Direct Incorrectly tagged as Direct - at the same time as the organic drop, Direct traffic doubled - it has since decreased back to just above the Direct baseline, however Organic has not improved I'd just be interested to know if anyone has any experience with something similar happening and, if so, what do you think the cause was and how did you rectify it? Thank you very much for your input in advance!

How can I redirect incoming links from an old version of my site ending in .ctlg and .ivnu?
My original site was published in 2001 using "version 2" software from Ivenue, the hosting company that I signed up with at that time. The site's structure was built in such a way that the primary category pages ended in the extension .ivnu. Product or item pages on the shopping cart side ended in the extension .ctlg. My site's name was and is [Lamplight Feather, Inc.](<a class="webkit-html-attribute-value webkit-html-external-link" href="http://www.tonyhill.net/" target="_blank">http://www.tonyhill.net/</a>). We built our business between 2001 and 2011 and by the last three years (2009 - 2011) of using their version two were averaging a million dollars per year in gross sales. We decided to "upgrade" to Ivenue's "version 3" in 2011 to take advantage of some more modern options and because their newer software created web pages ending in .html which we thought more desirable. We made the switch in late 2011. But it was a disaster. Traffic and sales dropped precipitously. For the past two years (2012-2013) our annual gross sales average dropped to $400,000. (Two other factors were involved beside losing the many incoming links and link juice we had built up over the years: Panda came in that fall and my little niche market (decorative feathers) was flooded with competitors.) However as I try to rebuild our traffic and business little by little, I am stumped as to how to redirect the many incoming links that went to our first site's .ivnu and .ctlg pages. I have constructed redirects for some of our current but changed .html pages like this and put them in the file cabinet and they work: For (example): http://www.tonyhill.net/feathers_c384589.html then But trying the same thing for (example) http://www.tonyhill.net/craftfeathers.ivnu still returns a 404. Is there something I am missing. Ivenue is useless in this matter by the way. Their "technicians" are no help. I plan to be migrating my site once again to a new hosting company and hope to solve this problem before then. Thanks for the attention, Tony Hill This is an example from Google Webmaster of the type of links that show up as 404's that I would like to redirect: | URL: | http://www.tonyhill.net/productCat96521.ctlg | | | Error details | Linked from | | <colgroup><col></colgroup>

More Traffic From Lower Rankings?
I have access to analytics for two different sites that rank for the same keyword. Strangely, the site that ranks on page 3 gets three times as much traffic as the site that ranks on page 1 (rankings according to multiple SEO tools as well as my own browser). How is this possible?

What will you do when seeing the rank and traffic are dropping?
No black-hat SEO strategy was adopted, so we suppose it's not a penalty, but ranks and organic traffics are dropping. What will you do in this situation? And how long it takes for you to make sure it's not a normal flux, but something wrong happens on your site? Thanks in advance

Is there a way tu use the (.ca) http://www.pilatesboisfranc.ca advertise on my car and track that advertising using Analytics? I know I can use a URL something like http://www.pilatesboisfranc.com/health and track the hit, but using a shorter URL is the key. Can you help? Thank you, BigBlaze

What does "on first page" mean in seomoz ranking reports?
Hi - When reports here show numbers of keywords appearing "on first page", there must be some implicit assumption made about the number of results listed per page. 1. Can anyone tell me what that assumption is? Is it 10? 20? 2. What about universal results Local links? If the answer to number one is, for instance, 20 results per page, then are there any assumptions made about the number of universal results Local links included? I'm just trying to understand what the reports mean. Thanks, Tim

Has Google changed its algorithm? My traffic has almost doubled and I don't know why.
My traffic has nearly doubled over the past few days, and my conversion rate has doubled as well. It looks like our rankings haven't changed... We haven't done anything to the site recently, although we did submit a couple of press releases through the wire not too long ago (within the last few weeks). I do not think that this is a cyclical/seasonal jump in traffic because last year this did not occur. Any ideas?

Drastic keyword position drop from time to time
Hey guys, I'm having the following issue. My keyword position in SERP is usually 10-11 but sometimes (like once a month or so) it drops to like to position 46 or something of that kind. Why would that be happening and what can I do to avoid that stuff?
