Sat in a York Based Office but I get a Google Lincoln local listing :-(
-
Buongiorno from 27 degrees C Wetherby UK
Imagine this scenario... I'm sat in a York Based HQ law office and Google term Langleys and the Local listing is for Lincoln is rendered
The lincoln office is the smaller sister site 75 miles south of where I'm sitting as illustrated here appears (this is wrong) -
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/langleys-local-listing-jinxcopy_zps26e3492a.jpgI then do the same thing in a wetherby based office and get the York based local listing appears. So my question is please" what is influencing which local listing is rendered?"
Confused,
David -
Hi David,
This is an odd one, I agree. Obviously, proximity of the searcher to the business in question contributes to what ranks where, but what you are experiencing with office A showing when you are in town B and and office B showing when you're in town A is new to me. If only one of the offices was showing when you were searching from both towns, I would suggest that that location is being judged by Google to be of premium importance, regardless of location. I've seen that happen before. But I don't have an answer for the phenomenon you have described. It's like Google has it backwards!
My suggestion: start a thread about this in either the Google and Your Business Forum or the Google MapMaker forum and see if you can get either a Google Top Contributor or MapMaker RER to escalate the issue to a Google staffer. *You'll have to cross your fingers on this. I can't guarantee you'll receive a response, but the issue is problematic enough for your customers to deserve an explanation, in my opinion.
I would title your post something like: Results Sending Customers To 2 Opposite Locations, Despite Proximity Of Searcher.
Then, show exactly what you are experiencing and be prepared to share the full account details. If you do get an answer from a Google staffer, I would certainly be interested in hearing what they say. Most problems in Local SEO come up over and over again, but this is a new one for me and I'd like to know if you learn anything.

Best way to manage multiple Google My Business accounts as a marketing agency?
As marketing agency we have for each client a Google My Business account. This means that we have more than 100 Google My Business accounts. We know that GA has a limit of 100 analytics accounts (free version), but is there a limit in Google My Business too? For now, we have created multiple accounts that own different Google My Business accounts of our clients. Can I just change all the different e-mail accounts of our marketing agency and change it to one? So we can manage all the Google My Business accounts of our clients in one e-mail account?

Seeing different Google 3-Pack results on Android mobile browsers vs. IOS mobile browsers. Why is this?
I am researching new SEO recommendations in lieu of Google's controversial "3-Pack" update. I am noticing very different results in the Google 3-Pack on a android mobile browser when I do a local search query versus a query in apple mobile browser. For example if I do a Google search for "Seattle Sporting Goods" I am able to see direction links and full address numbers for businesses in the 3-Pack. However the same query on a Android phone provides only "teaser" street name results, no direction links but still shows business reviews. Is it possible that the 3-Pack update is still in flux? Shouldn't the Google 3-Pack show uniform results across all different mobile browsers? This could impact my SEO recommendations.

Local seo, business in multiple cities?
Hello Everyone, What is the best strategy when it comes to optimizing a website that services more than one city. So, say I'm in computer fixing business and I have offices in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Miami & Dallas. (took me a while to come up with some US cities) - how should I structure my website so that I look relevant for every city? Is it possible to display specific information for users coming from specific cities, say someone browsing from San Francisco will see my main page optimized for San Francisco (containing a real address, phone number all the necessary stuff). I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you in advance, Alex
