Any SEO thoughts about Google's new Data Highlighter for products?
-
After searching around on the web for a while I couldn't find any case studies or interesting posting about Google's new feature to highlight structured data. In Google Webmaster Tools you can now tag your products to be displayed as structured data in Google's search results. Two questions that rose immediately:
1. What effect will Google's new Data Hightlighter for products have on your SEO? Can we expect better CTR's for productspage results in Google? Better conversion rates perhaps? Any case studies that show KPI improvements after using structured data for products?
2. I would love to see some examples in the search results to see what productpages would look like after Data Highlighting it.
Your thoughts or input about this subject will be much appreciated.

Hi SDIM, unfortunately I'm not in a position to be posting specific URL's as these are live client sites. I have noted a few URL's that did get picked up properly showing their product review scores similar to IMDB listings. As demonstrated at: How Rich snippets/schema markup help SEO.
However as I have said it's very picky about actually using the data sets provided, I would recommend using Schema markup in the site template/layout if possible versus relying on Google's highlighting tool.

I have been testing this on some of my clients accounts, but without no effect so far.

Hi James, thanks for you feedback. Would you care to share some sample search terms where you ecommerce site did show up with mark-up in the SERP results?
-
Although not related directly to data highlighter for products, I have used data highlighter for events. Like James says, Google seems to have a problem identifying a set even though I've added multiple examples. I terms of performance, it's only been a month or so since it was set up but there has been no discernable impact so far.

I've used the tool on a single domain in a shop environment, unfortunately I've seen little to no effect. I did notice however that Google's tool is relatively poor at picking up it's own highlights once set. This may just be my personal experience with the tool though.
I have on the other hand used schema mark-up on another eCommerce site and seen not only improved CTR, but the SERP results returned have tended to be more accurate and useful (in my eyes) for customers/potential customers.

Does Google considers the cached content of a page if it's redirected to new page?
Hi all, If we redirect an old page to some new page, we know that content relevancy between source page and this new page matters at Google. I just wonder if Google is looking at the content relevancy of old page (from cache) and new page too. Thanks

Thoughts on RankScience?
I'm sure most of you have heard about this startup, RankScience, that has big ambitions to disrupt the SEO industry with their automated (I know I know...the word 'automated' and 'SEO' in the same sentence!!!) optimization software. Their claim is that by running thousands of congruent A/B tests on your site, they can maximize rankings and organic traffic. Initially my thoughts were "oh crap, there goes my (and a lot of other people's) career". But then I started thinking about it a bit more and realized a couple things. First, software can't replace a face-to-face client meeting. Being in an agency world as most of us are, client interactions are vital to a sustained partnership. Second, someone is going to have to understand what this software does, configure it, and monitor it, and I'm ok with that being part of my job if that's how the industry shifts. Third, and most importantly, in theory this software has the capability to reverse engineer search algorithms. If they had the data of 10,000 websites using their platform and are collecting data on what works and what doesn't, it's only a matter of time before they can pick apart the algorithm piece by piece to figure out exactly how it works. Google is obviously not going to like that very much and will almost certainly right the ship. That's my 2 cents, looking forward to what your thoughts are on RankScience and the future of our industry.

Google October 2015 Algorithm Update?
According to Accuranker (https://www.accuranker.com/blog/google-october-2015-algorithm-update/), "Google has made some big changes to their algorithm". Other than that one article, I haven't noticed or even heard of any considerable fluctuations. Even Mozcast is looking pretty normal today. Has anyone noticed anything or have any other sources on this? If so, any ideas on what this update seems to be targeting?

Recent Google algorithm update?
Two of our clients have experienced a huge dip in organic rankings during the past week or so and we haven't done anything that would cause this. Have there been any major Google changes reported lately? I'm not seeing anything reported here: https://moz.com/google-algorithm-change. Thanks for your input. Eric

Youtube, Video SEO, & my site
For our business we are building a collection of videos ranging including product info, how-to's, and some funny content. My understanding is that if you embed these onto my site from youtube you don't get any credit for these videos on the web site even if submitting a video sitemap. My thinking is to post these videos to youtube and to host them on our own site and submit a video sitemap including the videos on our site. We would change the name, description, etc. on youtube vs. what's o our web site. Question is - is this the best strategy? Do I get penalized for duplicate content? They are important for both the social aspects of youtube and the content vaue of our web site.

Importance of Product Review Syndication?
Greetings everyone I have been tasked to do research on just how important it is to have product reviews syndicated with Google's (star rating found in Google Shopping). I am unable to find any research reports or studies on this nor any quantitative data on it's impact, beneficial or otherwise. If any of you folks have any first hand experiences, perhaps some before and after figures, that would be great. Thanks
