Social media signals from Facebook comment plugin on your site?
-
If you are using the Facebook social plugin on your site like ThinkGeek does for comments:

Are there any positive social signals from people leaving comments that could impact the SEO of the page?
I searched the text of some comments in quotations in Google and it appears that the first few comments are indexed but most are not.

I haven't seen much in the way of data on this. As @ReferralCandy said, I believe that at least some of the comments are indexed and they may count as page content, but I don't think the association with Facebook gives you any particular boost. More likely, the gain would be from crossing your blog community with the Facebook community and possibly increasing your engagement and secondary social signals.
I have mixed feelings about the Facebook commenting platform, but most of that's around ownership, not SEO. Seems like some fairly large sites are using it.

Referral traffic from facebook to your website is important. Not where you have embeded plugin.
Think for engagement and more inbound initiatives like facebookRegards

Comments made using Facebook Comments plugin can be indexed by Google, so akin to the default comment box, they are all considered as User-Generated Content and treated as positive social signals towards the SEO of the page. An advantage I can see from using Facebook comments is that users can share comments they made on their own profile, thereby exposing your comments to more people and encourage more people to comment on your page.
I'm not entirely sure if Google indexes all the Facebook comments made, or only the top comments. If the latter is true, it is a good sign since only popular (or quality) comments will be indexed as part of your page.

Facebook Contests
Hey Moz Community, I've been reading some articles that Facebook no longer likes if Business Pages run contests on their Pages. I was thinking about doing something super simple with a "Like, Comment, and Share" type of an entry. Does anyone know if this is still allowed - I can't seem to find a concrete answer. Even the guidelines for Facebook seem a bit vague. I could always take the contest offline and use a landing page on my website to generate traffic but that also doesn't help with my social following. Thoughts, insights all welcome. Thanks!

Facebook Like to Download and Page SEO
Hello, I am adding a Facebook Like to Download button for each piece of free content on my website and wondering if a feature like that would be bad for the page SEO.

Do having social sharing icons such as Twitter and Pinterest slow down site speed?
We are debating a redesign of a travel site and wondering whether having social sharing buttons including Pinterest and Facebook above each image would slow down site speed and therefore have a negative impact on our rankings. We are deciding between having the icons above each image or just in the side bar of all pages. Many thanks, Penny

Leverage other peoples author rank for your site?
Hi quick question, lets say you find writers in your niche and get them to do a guest post for your site and they have also built up alot of author rank (active google+ account, tones of social media followers). From my understanding you cannot leverage their author rank for your site since their google+ profile needs to be connected to your site? Unless it connected, you will not get any author rank benefit? Cheers, Mark

Moderate blog comments Yes/No? Facebook comment plugin?
I was reading outbound marketing and they suggest that a good blog "does not" moderate comments. I have always taken the moderate approach, but their thought was this inhibits a conversation from taking place on the blog. I am wondering what thoughts others may have on this and its potential positive and negative impacts, both SEO and in general. Also I am thinking about using a Facebook plugin with my blogposts. I think this may be a good way to help get social visibility... Has anyone tried this yet?
