Duplicate content across external profiles
-
As a B2B business, a lot of our traffic comes from referrals, especially from profile listings and high quality directories.
I am currently updating all of our listings with content that is relevant and representative of our business. The easiest way to do this is by using one boilerplate/ presaved profile. This would be using duplicate content, would I run the risk of discrediting these backlinks to my website and suffering and Google penalties? -
Hey Harry,
For the top 5-10% of these pages (specifically the ones with the highest referral volume to your site or high domain authority), try and write some custom content to supplement your boilerplate stuff.
For the rest of them I wouldn't worry about the boilerplate content. Duplicate content on the pages would mean that it's unlikely that all of them would rank together, but I can't think of any reason that it would decrease the link value sent to you.

Hi Andre,
I am also agreed with you without any proof, as said -
"any form of duplicate content is frowned upon and in theory, if a link exists on a page with content identical to another website, that link would be less valuable"Let me work on some new project to see the differences, hope it is true as we are thinking.
Best,
Teginder -
Strictly speaking, any form of duplicate content is frowned upon and in theory, if a link exists on a page with content identical to another website, that link would be less valuable.
If each of your descriptions in listings were unique to some extent, i'd guess the value of the link would be somewhat better.
I don't think you'd run a risk of getting penalties though as the dupe content doesn't originate on your site, (unless the description you plan on using is identical to content somewhere on your site)
I think the only negative to using the same description across multiple sites would be the value that passes with the link.
(I don't have any evidence for this though, just a theory)

In my opinion you might want to stick to a very good description it is the domain in which you are sharing your description on that gets any duplicate content issues for instance let's say I'm in yelp if I write "the example is outstanding and fun".
then the only thing that could occur is Google will give yelps competitors the credit for the content if they have a higher page rank or domain trust.
Essentially no you cannot hurt your own website by giving the same honest duplicate description of your companies practices or what you sell on quality directory websites.
B2B is a lot rougher considering the lack of traffic from organic I am right there with you.
Sincerely,
Thomas

What are the top 20 whitelisted SEO content publishing channels?
With Hubpages in the penalty box right now, I am looking for other inbound marketing channels to syndicate original content to relevant audiences. I am currently using SlideShare, but I am looking for other channels. Will you share 10-20 of your recommended content publishing channels that syndicate SEO content? Context: What I need are channels that are: Low to no budget ($0-50 annual, if they exist) Ability to upload SEO content - landing pages, infographics, blog posts, images, videos. Any content type - channels that publish at least 1 of each of the content types I mentioned Targeted, relevant traffic (we would assess that one) Ability to comment, share or vote (Like) the content White-listed by Google, most importantly Examples:

Duplicate content - big brand players
Hi I understand the concept of duplicate content and its impact, however I do have a couple of doubts that I would like to hear expert comments. Product description/content listed in Amazon.com (for instance Canon EOS 600) same content/description can be seen in Amazon.co.uk - how does google see this ? same product listed in amazon is found it target , walmart , Bestbuy and other big player with same description - Who gets the penalty ? Ipad Air launched yesterday, a detailed description can be found on apple site, and the same description / features / word by word will be found in all legit major online sites - How does google see this ? My Business example. Let say I own Samsung camera / other Samsung products. Obviously I do not sell them on my brand site and provide only information on Samsung.com. Products are sold all over the world on retailer websites like bestbuy, target, walmart, amazon.com, amazon.co.uk etc etc. I only have 1 detailed description per product to provide to all these retailers which they use the same information on their website.(I dont mind them doing so, however is this duplicate content ? ) If the answer is all retailers have to alter my original description, this may not be feasible, coz I have 1000+ products and 100+ retails. Remember I am Samsung. How does google see this, What is my Online strategy, Appreciate your comments.

Duplicate Content
I have a TLD .com and 3 microsites in different regions with the specific ccTLDs. The structure is the same and most of the content is the same. Does Google regard this as duplicate content?

Same Content or New Content?
Hi Everyone, Hope everyone is doing good. Well, thanks to the input of many people (experts) on this site I have almost arrived at where I want to be, even better than that....I am almost there with confidence because of all the input received from this site. So what have I done? I have redesigned a static website to WordPress, I decided t keep the old link structure which is suffixed .html, and to use redirects if needed. I also swithed hosting service providers to noe that carries htaccess. My last question, well probably not, is do I use the same content from the same pages on the old website to the new, or do i create new content, It is a local service business, new content would not be a problem, however, our current content seems to be ranking well with the old site though. In summary, should I change the content of the new site so "Duplicate Content" does not arise? Should I leave transdfer the content to the new site to maintain on page SEO that has been ranking me good thus far? As Always, any and all input is really appreciated! -jimmy

What is the best way to share good content (and help myself in the process)
i spend a decent amount of my spare time browsing quora, stumbleupon, google reader, pulse, etc keeping up with all the different aspects of internet marketing when i come across a particuarly valuable piece of content i take a few seconds and share it using hootsuite on my linked, twitter, facebook (i spread them out so there is only one post a day) this rewards those who write valuable content but im not doing anything to benefit my site - www.sawwebmarketing.com im establishing myself as somebody who has good stuff to share to my potential clients.... what a quick, easy way to share the high quality things i come across that will create links for me as well? (short of writing my own blog post listing the high quality articles i found with my thoughts on each) thoughts? opinions? thanks everybody! Matthew

Is your content above the fold
Google released an update today that will rank pages with plenty of content above the fold higher than those that don’t.
Industry News | | AlanMosley
If you have a lot of ads above the fold then don’t expect to rank.
I see many CMS sites with very large banners across the top and content pushed down low on the page, will these pages also be hurt by the update?
The update is crawling now, you might want to check your SERP’s and see if there is much movement going on.
