High Ranking site with very low amount of texts, HOW?

Hi All,
As I was surfing the net, I recently encountered a beautiful and well known site - indochino.com
An e-commerce site that sells custom made suits and shirts.
They do not have a brick and mortar store, just the site and built an amazing reputation in about two years (maybe less).The question is....
HOW do they rank high in competitive niches like suits with practically no texts in the website?
Is it "ONLY" because of the amazing UI and Links?
(I thought texts is the king...)There is no blog or any other visible content area besides for the product pages and a couple of explanatory sections which are also with not that much texts...

High domain authority comes primarily from quality backlinks and, to some extent social likes and sharing (I think the strength of the social signals will continue to grow more important as time goes on). So, the question really is, how do you build links and get social shares with a site that has no text on the site?
First, you don't need text for people to have something they think is compelling and worth sharing a linking to. There are plenty of other forms of content that people link to.
Beyond that, there are really 3 ways to build links to a site:
- Create content that is valuable to people and post it on your site. You can get social shares by posting things on other sites (Facebook, Google+, etc.), but that usually doesn't lead to links to your site. As noted above, the content posted to your site doesn't have to be text based.
- Do an awesome job doing whatever you website/company does. As an extreme example, Apple doesn't need to put out any content to get links at this point. People link to them because they like the Apple products. When they release a new iphone, even if they just put a product product page for it on their site and they would get tens of thousands, if not millions of links. This works for smaller companies, too, though usually on a smaller scale. Just do a great job, offer great products, etc. and people will link to you.
- Do link building strategies. Most of these, if not all, are now against Google and Bing's guidelines, so these are pretty much all black hat now. But black hat can work...at least for a while. Personally, I recommend people stick with options 1 and 2 above because I think the risk is too great with the linking schemes. However, I mention this because, when investigating how other sites are ranking well, this is always a possibility.

The indochino site has is a high authority site and has built up a brand. Content on a site is only one part of the equation and, like many equations, if you increase one part of the equation, you can decrease another and get the same results. For example, 2 x 6 = 12, but so does 1 x 12. I've seen sites, especially decently branded sites, that had no readable content on their website but were ranking very well for competitive phrases in their niche. It's because their site authority and brand were strong enough to over come the lack of content. I'd say the same thing is happening in regards to your question.

I've done a little SERP analysis recently to help figure out how much content I really needed to rank well. What I found was that for the queries I researched sites that were ranking in the top ten either had a low PA/DA and a ton of text (2k + words on the page) or a high PA/DA and a low amount of text (~300 words). Obviously sites that had a high PA/DA and a ton of text crushed it in the SERPs. This all goes back to classic correlation does not equal causation.
There seemed to be a point where a page with low PA/DA could still rank well if you had enough content, and vice versa. I would think if the site you are referring to has minimal text on the page its backlink metrics are pushing it to the top of the SERPs. Also, good UX will improve time on site which may help it surface to the top of the SERPs.
Again, correlation does not equal causation. This is just something I've seen for a sample of keywords I am targeting. I've used this to determine which landing pages on my site have low PA and have worked on adding some relevant text to those pages.

Page optimised and SEO ranking
Hi SEO is new to myself and I'm still trying to get my head round it. My friend and myself run a DJ company in our spare time but we are desperately trying to rank higher to increase our visibility. we have worked hard on our page optimisation and scoring high 90's, we'd love to invest in someone to do it, but simply dont have that kinda cash at the moment. High Profile Entity (Actress) w/ incorrect Birthdate
I would like to see if you have any recommendations on a unique case that you might be able to advise me on. I have a high profile client who has the knowledge graph appearing for her keyword. This client is from another country originally - Denmark . She now lives here in the USA and is working on her acting career with very well known actors. On her knowledge graph, her birthday is displayed incorrectly. I have proof of identification of client. Based on my research, it looks like Birthday typically is tied to Wikipedia Page. Client does not have a wikipedia page in google.com but previously had one in google.dk. Her page was taken down on google.dk because of users (journalists) adding gossip and false information to her wikipedia page as well as false stories - all in another language. After being attacked online by gossip magazines and journalists, they have posted (jealous women) content making my client seem as if she is much older than she is. At this time, what is displaying on the knowledge graph makes her 20 years older than she is. Any ideas on how we should approach this. She reached out to google and provided documentation but nothing has changed. Based on what I can see this information is directly related to the google.dk information formally posted online. Since wikipedia is now down, her birthday still appears incorrectly. Any recommendations on how to resolve this issue with Date of Birth. Thank you

Renaming of Link within Site Links - Brand Issues
Hi, We welcome your thoughts on the current problem we are experiencing: When searching for our client's brand name, their previous sponsors name is shown within the Site Links to a very important page. We are keen to change this reference within the Site Link but keep the link itself. There were 250+ mentions of the sponsor + client within Wikipedia. References have either been deleted or changed to past tense. (Google has been extremely slow at indexing these changes.) 4) Removal of off-site mentions:
After using Advanced Filters within OSE, we extracted all links that included the previous-sponsors name. We filtered these by DA and approached these sites and requested they update their links/on-site content to include the up-to-date name. This included large news organisations and reference sources. We also used Google operators (inurl, inanchor, intitle) to search for references mentions of [previous-sponsor + client]. We used Buzzstream to collate this data and contacted hundreds of sites sorted by DA. 5) We have twice requested demotion of the Site Link via GWT without success. Google clearly see's the Site Link as too important to remove it. The following is useful background information:
The [client + previous-sponsor] worked together for 5+ years. Our client is known by it's own brand, but it was also called in certain arenas as [client + previous-sponsor].
Fresh mentions of [client + previous-sponsor] are frequent. Examples of this are from collectors merchandise and videos that are posted frequently. The page being shown within the Site Links is essential. It cannot be moved. With a PA of mid-70's.
We have changed the Title of the page multiple times, without any change to the Site Link. Thanks

Site Architecture for Sub-Brands
I am working on launching a few industry specific sub-brands for our marketing agency and am trying to figure out the best way to deliver a tailored user experience using subfolders instead of subdomains, if this is indeed the best option... Since I am trying to provide separate experiences, I looking at housing microsites in sub-folders - say /technology or /medical. Each with its own navigation, home page, and industry specific content/blog/portfolio. A couple things I am considering: Will my microsite "home pages" and site pages rank as well in a sub-folder versus if they were actually the primary pages on their own sub-domain? Will separate Wordpress and theme installs and separate primary navigations have any affect on SEO if they are in sub-folders of the same site? Thanks in advance for any input. Looking to create a Press Release - Any decent sites out there?
Hey guys, I'm wondering whether you could point me in the right direction of a reputable PR site to use? I realise that many of these sites have been devalued over recent years but I wanted to produce something for a client after they struck-up a fairly notable connection with another company in their industry. Or should I just avoid PR sites altogether? Oh, and I'd prefer them to be free if possible 🙂

Tips for promoting the blog section of our eCommerce site
Hi, With the recent Google updates we're thinking that unique content is more important than ever in order to gain high quality, natural links from genuine users. As such we're thinking that our blog (http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/) might be more important than ever. Don't be put off by the lack of Page Authority or Google Page Rank; we've only just moved to this address from the subdomain igloo.refreshcartridges.co.uk. The content is certainly rather niche; an article like http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/how-to-the-reset-purge-counter-on-a-brother-printer-with-a-numerical-pad/ will be helpful to thousands of users who own this particular range of printer but it's debatable as to whether it is sufficiently mainstream to be openly shared and linked to. We ping to sites such as Technorati, produce videos to accompany much of the content (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dxmm4-blN8&list=UUH93Kwax4CcEIAOsXWb6CiA&index=1&feature=plcp for example) and provide easy sharing buttons. I do however think that we could be doing more to actively ‘push’ this content on to potential customers. I'm not naive enough to think that niche articles like this will be enough to get hundreds of links and tens of thousands of reads but printer news, reviews and support is pretty much the only thing we can write about while being relevant to our core business. I would however like to get the best exposure that we can for these articles which is why I’m asking for your advice today. I would really appreciate any ideas you may have as to how else we could gain the best value from these unique articles and videos. I apologise for this being such an open ended question but any and all advice on how to maximise this resource would be appreciated. Many thanks!
