Images in articles - copying the authority in my industry
-
Hello,
For my site, BobWeikel.com, I have an article about the type of coaching I do. It's called "What is NLP?" Here's the link.
The two authorities in my industry which I respect the most have no (or sometimes one) images or anything in their best articles - it's all just text.
Some examples of these authoritative articles are here and here. Note the second article has one image in it. That's common for that author, and he's the top person in the field. Note that that first link has no images at all.
I'd like to refine my article until I can compete. Should I leave out all images since that's what the big guys are doing?
Thanks!

Awesome advice from both of you. Thanks!

Bob,
I don't think that mimicking your competitors is a good strategy for winning. Instead you should be doing something that is superior. Keep that in mind.
The value of images on a webpage varies depending upon the subject. If I am talking about how to install crown molding then images of how it is done are extremely valuable to my article. They might even be more important than text. So, if these guys are writing about topics for which images can play a critical role then they should have their heads examined if they are not using lots of images.
Lots of other topics might not lend themselves to an article with a lot of images. However, images can be used for other things. They can be used to reinforce points, pretty up a page (which is important in my opinion - landing on an article with no images is horrible for engagement in my opinon).
We take a lot of our own photos, we license a lot of photos, and we use websites like istockphoto to obtain access to a library of photos that can be licensed for minimal cost.
So, I would use photos and art and tables and graphs no matter what I am writing about. I think that it makes for a classy website and those photos can be used as primary, secondary or "did you know?" content.
In short, I pay very little attention to my competitors, other than to take a quick look at their content and decide if I can beat it. For me images are a major way for me to beat my competitors in richness of content and aesthetic appeal

Hey Bob,
Although it is good to keep an eye on Authorities in your field, I would suggest you be your own person and not worry too much about them not using images.
At the end of the day. research shows images are a great way of keeping people engaged on your page. I would always use images to illustrate a point if I can.
Hope this helps
Dave

What are the effects of posting on a blog site using copied content from your site if you source the site on the blog site?
I have noticed that some of my pages from my site are posted to different blog sites and directory submissions they are word for word what is on my site but at the bottom of the page it does list my site as the source and there are links in the text back to my site. Is this going to negatively effect my rankings or is it ok since my site is sourced in the article?

Does using Articlebase articles on your site push your rank down?
Hello All, I launched a website (www.hrpayrollsystems.net) last year. I'm very new to the SEO world so I'm still seeing what works and what doesn't. We recently republished some articles from articlebase.com that I think may have hurt us in SEO. Does Google see our site as having duplicate content and then penalize us? Our top keyword isn't even ranking anymore when I put it in the sites that tell you where you show up. Help!

How to Get Rid of Duplicate Content Captured on Article Lists
We have a ton of articles and blog posts on our site. Currently, we display summary lists of articles that contain the first paragraph of the article in the summary list. However, in my reports, this is coming back as duplicate content with the full article itself. How do I fix this? Ex: article main page- http://www.robots.com/articles/10 First article on that page- http://www.robots.com/articles/viewing/grippers-for-robots (which shows up as duplicate content with the main artilce page). With our blogs, we have the most recent 5 blogs (in the same summary format) listed on our main blog page. We then have categories that people can sort by. But again, this is causing us duplicate content because those pages show the first paragraph of the blogs related to that category. Ex: blog main page- http://www.robots.com/blog. First blog listed on that page- http://www.robots.com/blog/viewing/robots-and-automation-bringing-jobs-back-to-the-united-states (which then shows as duplicate content with the main blog page). And then you can also select categories to see related topics: http://www.robots.com/blog/category/buying-a-robot which is showing as duplicate content also. Help! How can I prevent this? Thanks! Any article sites that actually still rank welll?
Hi All! After the havoc of Panda and Penguin - are there any article sites that still rank decently for the articles within? I'm not talking about using articles to get backlinks - I want to attract visitors to the articles themselves because of the message within the article. Yes, I know that for lots of reasons my own blog would be better. In addition to that, if you want to spread the message - which sites are recommended? Thanks! Aviva

Does this count as Copied Content ?
Hi, we are publishing news on our website blog. In the news we use excerpts from other websites but do mention the source like "according to XYZ news source" etc. Does it count as copied content as sometime copyscape shows alsmot 30% duplicated content due to inclusion of references from different sources in our news stories ? Content being copied from our product page hurting our site overall?
On our product pages, he have short descriptions and some bulleted lists. Resellers of our products, and many other sites who are not resellers are copying this content, often verbatim. While I'm not as concerned for the product pages themselves as we're hoping the category pages will rank, does this duplication of our content hurt our site overall? FWIW, our brand name is in our domain and often also shown on these sites that copy the content.

Duplicating Articles/Blogs
Two years ago, some articles and blogs were written and submitted to certain tech and news sites relevant to our field. Will it be fine to submit those to other sites now. It is our content only and not some one else, but would it be penalty to submit the copy to other article sites whereever those articles/content are relevant today also?
