Which eCommerce site you consider using best practices? Site we can learn from
-
Hi,
I'm looking to hear thoughts and suggestions as per sites that you consider to have great practices in the eCommerce world.
Almost none of the sites do everything good so you can split your suggestions by any criteria -
the site structure
conversion funnel
Converting product pages (good design)
content creation and blog management / structure
content marketing
SEO guidelines / practices
...Thanks

Hi BeytzNet. It would help to know what scale of e-commerce you are curious about?
I think the online retail industry needs some new terms. The brick-n-mortar retail industry has a nice collection of easily understood terms. We all know the difference between a big box store, a mom-n-pop shop, a franchise, a boutique, a chain store, a convenience store, and a resale shop.
But online retail seems to just have "e-commerce sites". An online store with 50,000 products is a whole different beast than an online store with 50 products (or at least it should be) - and they should have different names. Maybe Mega-e-commerce for the 50,000 item store, and Micro-e-commerce for the 50 item store. Then we could fill the gaps with Mini-e-commerce for the 500 item stores and Middle-e-commerce for the 5000 item guys.
And boy is it hard to find good e-commerce systems for the 50 item stores. Something like Magneto or BigCommerce is overkill. But systems that are friendly to Micro and Mini-e-commerce are out there if you dig deep enough.

Both of these examples posted have rather terrible duplicate content issues, both internally and externally. As duplicate content is possibly one of the biggest onsite SEO issues with eCommere site, these aren't particular great examples in that regard.
e.g:
-
Zappos.com by far.
Especially their technical side of dishing out images/content at an incredible speed. Their architecture is amazing.

Personally I do not mind this website here http://www.theiconic.com.au they are pretty switched on from an SEO & eCommerce point of view and user testing ect, some things I would change yet they have a good basis for what you are asking.
I mean most of the bigger sites like Amazon ect they are legacy so things need to be changed over time, I would look at new eCommerce sites which have been built up from the ground up with SEO in mind. Usually this is not the case and it involved fixing things over time/ adding on things

Best Practices: Mobile & Desktop Ad Design for Adwords?
Is it possible to have Google Adwords display different page versions according to whether an advertisement will be displayed on a mobile or desktop device? We are a commercial real estate brokerage based in New York City. Most converting website use desktop rather than mobile. We are considering advertising on Google Adwords. Is it possible to have Google serve a more elaborate form of desktop landing page but have Google serve a stripped down version to mobile users? The stripped down version would be created using Instapage. From a technical perspective how would we create a more elaborate desktop version and have Google distinguish between the two? In our experience, mobile converts much less. How much less should we bid for keywords displaying on mobile? Thanks!

What are the best practices for server-side A/B testing?
When performing a full-site server-side A/B test, what best practices should you follow to ensure that you're: not cloaking or at least not being shady only showing Google (and other search engines) the version you want them to see (i.e. not the test pages) Thanks in advance!

How complicated would it be to optimize our current site for the Safari browser?
Hi all! Okay, here's the scoop. 33% of our site visitors use Safari. 18% of our visitors are on either an iPad or iPhone. According to Google Analytics, our average page load time for visitors using Safari is 411% higher than our site average of 3.8 second. So yes, average page load time pages loading in Safari is over 20 seconds...totally unacceptable, especially considering the large percentage of traffic using it. While I understand that there are some parameters beyond our control, it is in our own best interest to try to optimize our site for Safari. We've got to do better than 20 seconds. As you might have guessed, it's also killing conversation rates on visits from that browser. While every other browser posted double-digit improvements in conversion rates over the last several months, the conversion rate for Safari visitors is down 36%...translating into 10's of thousands in lost revenue. Question for anyone out there gifted in Web design and particular Web Dev....Do you think that it's possible/reasonable to attempt to "fix" our current site, which sits on an ancient platform with ancient code, or is this just not realistic? Would a complete redesign/replatform be the more realistic (and financially sound) way to go? Any insights, experiences and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. If you're someone interested in spec'-ing out the project and giving us a cost estimate please private message me. Thanks so much!

Using my Adwords budget
Hi, I have a huge budget for adwords but I only seem to be using about 1/10 of it daily. How to I go about using more budget but also keeping my conversion costs and % around the same? And should each campaign have its own set of unique keywords? Should these keywords never appear in more than 1 campaign? Any tips on maximising budget and increasing conversions would be great. Thanks

Site Redesign - 2 Target Audiences?
Hey everyone, we are planning a redesign on our website (we have been planning it since Fall last year, but got very busy in the Winter), and some new content / design questions have arisen. Right now, we are a "digital media" agency, and we offer video, design, and marketing services. So we do web videos, motion graphics, websites, seo, really a little bit of everything except for 3d modeling. What we are really trying to sell is the combination of these services (we may create a web video and redesign a groups website, then manage their adwords and marketing campaigns) and become our audiences "Go To" digital media agency. We were toying with the idea of giving visitors the option of picking from one target audience or another when they arrived at the home page, and their experience would be customized to best fit the needs of that particular audience from there on out. For example, on our homepage we were thinking of display our overview and value proposition (which would be the same, no matter which target audience group you were a member of), then asking if the visitor was a "Small Business Owner looking for guidance" or a "Marketing Director looking for outsourcing partners", then based on what option they chose, they'd be directed to a corresponding landing page optimized for converting this audience. We were worrying this may drop our domain or page authority for our home page, since these aren't really keywords that we'd normally be trying to rank for. We understand that it is ideal to have 1 "niche" target audience, but we found that we heavily service both audiences. Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

Can someone recommend a guide to getting started with Rich Snippets?
It's a bit tough to find info about getting started with Rich Snippets and how to start associating that information with the website. I'd appreciate some links to guides on how to get started, followed by how to get good at it. Thank You All in advance

Review Functionality Plugins for eCommerce. Which are the best and most cost effective?
Hi Mozzers! Let me give you a bit of background for my question. I currently look after two eCommerce sites and naturally I want to get them using reviews for products for customer interaction / content and rich snippets. I am basically looking for a cost effective plugin that can plugin to our CMS system that can give us review functionality and will be compatible with rich snippets. At the moment we use Disqus for the blog commenting system and i've heard this can be used for product reviews. Any ideas would be great. At the moment our client is holding back due to 'lack of funds' so the most cost effective measures would be appreciated. Cheers,

Conversion Rate - site feedback
Hi We gave a website a bit of a facelift last nov with the aim of increasing its position within Search Engines and getting it to begin making sales. The site: www.funkyfootstools.com is now moving in the right direction for its keyphrases, footstools and ottomans although it still needs some work. The issue I have is that from the visitors that come to the site, the stats prove they have a look around, they are just not purchasing - I am not sure if this is because of the layout, ie. usability or if there is something else. Any ideas & feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Carl
