Link Building with a Scholarship
-
One of my clients is using a scholarship to build links. We have a nofollow PR campaign getting ready to start and are doing some social marketing for the scholarship page on the site.
We are also trying to get backlinks from highschools and colleges that link to scholarship opportunities. So far this has been a slow process. Does anybody have any advice for speeding any of this up? Has somebody ever done a campaign like this before? Is there some kind of database with financial aid contact info for a lot of schools?
I contact a lot of schools and always tend to get put on the backburner.

As somebody who just finished building a scholarship program that I must say for outweighs the SEO benefits and honestly that is how it should be. The scholarship they should not be based on what we can get out of it.
Having said that doing the right thing sometimes does have its rewards.
in the 15 days since this has begun I am over the moon in how we are able to help people as well as our clients from my point of view right now it is a win-win.
All the best,
Thomas

I said the links from press releases were nofollow.

I know this is months old, but if I am reading this correctly, you want the links to your scholarship page to be nofollowed? Why is that?

There has been discussion of this before, and one thing that stands out to me is the legal requirements that are involved with the scholarship itself and making sure that it's not biased, breaking any state laws, etc. It sounds like you may already be passed this point, but just wanted to also bring that up.

Some info here...

There is probably a better way, but I do know that BuzzStream has a search feature that gathers a bunch of sites for you and allows you to contact all of them with contact information. Of course you will have to filter them to get a higher response rate but that is one way to gather a bunch of sites quick.
A free method would be to search Google for .edu sites only with financial aid pages.
PR campaigns would be good as well.

How to determine the value of these links?
Hi Guys, How can you determine the value of external links which are deep inside a website. Two examples: http://www.sheknows.com/community/home/ten-tips-buy-car-insurance Two sub-folders deep. http://www.dogfoodhowto.com/899/whats-the-best-puppy-food-for-cockapoo-puppy-at-home.html One sub-folder deep. These links are clearly far from the homepage, so was wondering if they are worthless or how can you determine the value of them? Cheers.

Breadcrumbs or contextual links ?
Hi, I have breadcrumbs on my site but wondering if in addition to those I should also add contextual links linking to the same pages ? Or is it necessary to duplicate ? The reason i would be doing this is because contextual links/ editorial is what google likes and I am not sure breadcrumbs counts as much. Thanks,

Any idea why Google Search Console stopped showing "Internal Links" and "Links to your site"
Our default eCommerce property (https://www.pure-elegance.com) used to show several dozen External Links and several thousand Internal Links on Google Search Console. As of this Friday both those links are showing "No Data Available". I checked other related properties (https://pure-elegance.com, http:pure-elegance.com and http://www.pure-elegance.com) and all of them are showing the same. Our other statistics (like Search Analytics etc.) remain unchanged. Any idea what might have caused this and how to resolve this?

Linking to URLs With Hash (#) in Them
How does link juice flow when linking to URLs with the hash tag in them? If I link to this page, which generates a pop-over on my homepage that gives info about my special offer, where will the link juice go to? homepage.com/#specialoffer Will the link juice go to the homepage? Will it go nowhere? Will it go to the hash URL above? I'd like to publish an annual/evergreen sort of offer that will generate lots of links. And instead of driving those links to homepage.com/offer, I was hoping to get that link juice to flow to the homepage, or maybe even a product page, instead. And just updating the pop over information each year as the offer changes. I've seen competitors do it this way but wanted to see what the community here things in terms of linking to URLs with the hash tag in them. Can also be a use case for using hash tags in URLs for tracking purposes maybe?

How to build a linking architecture in the most effective way?
Hi there, I'm creating a new website and I would like to start it in the best possible way. Content is the last of my problems, so is back links and social media. But I would appreciate your advice from an architectural point of view. In my current sites I've been struggling organizing menus, categories and internal links in an SEO friendly way. I just haven't got it yet 🙂 how to create an architecture that is both userfriendly and SEO optimized. Could someone please give me some tips or point me to a recent article to build a SEO optimized website architecture? How many menus in a page?

Keywords in the menu?
keywords in submenu?
Menu linking to categories or specific articles?
How many internal links?
permalinks with /category/ or /post-name/
menu in footer?
category including keyword?
categories in sidebar?
how many links is too many?
if in a page I have 101 links and nofollow 100 of them, does it count like if I have 1 link for SEO? Basically all things related to setting up a linking architecture in a website to optimize organic traffic. Thanks

Planning a Link Building Campaign: Which keywords to focus on?
Okay, so looking at my ranking tab for my campaign. It shows the increase in traffic from my keywords, ranks, etc. My goal is to increase traffic, thereby sales. I am trying to plan a link building campaign (aside from the onpage optimization) and get as many keywords within the top 10 as possible: Do I start focusing on a certain number of keywords that are on page 2 (lets say 10) and try to build links to get them within the top 10. Then pick another 10 keywords? Do I pick a variety of keywords from various pages? What is the smartest way of trying to optimize campaign keywords as far as linkbuilding?

Client participated in Link farm.
Our client participated in link exchange activity between 2008-2009. The service they used was http://link2me.com/ Its an obvious link farm scheme and their drop in traffic/rankings correlates to panda release early this year. The site does have tons of unique content, their are no technical SEO issues. They DO have great inbound links from some very authoritative sites (ie: peta.org) They do not rank even for unique strings taken directly from their content. Rankings for some very n long tail terms are virtually non existant. So the question were trying to figure out is, did the domain get hit with a penalty bc of past link farm participation, if so how can we correct? -- killing the account with link2me has already been done Could the domain NOT be penalized, and since all those external links were penalized did our site lose authority?

Can I reduce number of on page links by just adding "no follow" tags to duplicate links
Our site works on templates and we essentially have a link pointing to the same place 3 times on most pages. The links are images not text. We are over 100 links on our on page attributes, and ranking fairly well for key SERPS our core pages are optimized for. I am thinking I should engage in some on-page link juice sculpting and add some "no follow" tags to 2 of the 3 repeated links. Although that being said the Moz's on page optimizer is not saying I have link cannibalization. Any thoughts guys? Hope this scenario makes sense.
