Identify business pain points using SEO
-
Hi, can I use SEO research techniques to identify what kind of services businesses are searching for? Is it possible to find out pain points? I have been using tool like MicroNicheFinder to do such a research but I am not getting any where. Is SEO only used to outrank my competition? Do I need to first know what business I need to be in and then use SEO techniques to research the demand? Do I make sense? You can tell that I am very new at the internet marketing thing.
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Hi Zulfiqar,
While I don't know the tool you've been using to conduct some research I know that SEO could be a really valuable way of doing market research. This is one of the few industries where the (search) volumes are just largely published on the web and included in many tools. So you could use that as a basis for your research to see where the demand is to start your services.
I wouldn't say that SEO isn't only used to outrank your competition, it probably will never happen that you're able to outrank your competitors on all the keywords in your niche / business as Google is so different for every person and/ or every search.
Hope this helps!

Hi Zulfiqar
In your other question you were asking about how to rank highly for a specific term. Yes, I would highly recommend at this stage you look at having a clear idea of what business you want to be in as you have suggested and a business that would interest you. Also, where you can bring expertise.
It's easy to get sucked into using different tools and techniques with SEO, but the bottom line is about having a strategy, one that looks at your business and what you have to offer and about the type of customers you want to be able to reach with your business. Search engines are really the glue in the middle that connects your business with them and them with you.
I hope that helps,
Peter

Moz Insights are raising alarms --Are they useful?
Hi, Moz is alerting us about URLs being too long, titles being too long, and duplicate content. These are mostly for pages with categories of content, or the author bio pages --pages that are included by default with the template we're using in HubSpot. So that there isn't a quick way to make these changes, and anyway the pages are low-value.So my question is, how much are these issues impacting our SEO and domain authority? If these are pages no one visits (like the category and author pages) is there any reason this would be harming our SEO efforts? Thanks!

Anyone had an Extensive Look at Hubspot SEO Features and Tools ?
Mozz, Some co-workers are looking into some of the of tools that Hubspot offer as part of there marketing package, I understand it is part of a bigger picture for the hubspot software and moz is much more focused on technical seo etc, But i am just wondering if anyone had spent any extensive time using the hubspot software and has any feedback on the tools? Is there anything (Just the seo section) that moz cannot ? there are alot of really great moz tools i use that i haven't seen in the hubspot software, like the crawl test, the onpage grading doesn't look at as many aspects as moz, link information and opportunities looked limited compared to moz/majestic seo , no landing page tool like the one built into moz analytics campaigns and hubspot just generally seemed to provide less information ? Any advice or feedback would be grealy appreciated ? Thanks James

How can we efficiently use Fresh Web Explorer and Just Discovered Links?
Love the fresh data sources SEOmoz is building for us. However, I'm frustrated by the lack of scale the tools offer. Let's say I have 30 competitors I want to watch (which is pretty conservative - if we're targeting 100 keywords on a site, we could easily have 100's of top 20 ranked competitors). If I have to run individual reports for each using OSE and Fresh Web Explorer, that would be hours of work every day/week. Ideally, I'd like to see a campaign feature where you could add 2-200 competitors to view in one report. You could view recent links (from FWE and JDL) for all competitors on one handy report, and sort by various metrics. So for example, if you wanted to view the top 10 links your competitors have gotten in the past week, you could see that in 30 seconds of work, vs many hours of work. Any others who think this would be useful? Any ideas for how we can use the data in such a way without this feature?

One Follow Link from each subdomain/domain best for SEO?
Hi there, we have a lot of customers linking to our homepage from a subdomain of our domain or from an external domain. From SEO point of view is it best that they all only have one DoFollow Link and the rest of the links are NoFollow? Or does this have no matter at all? The problem is that we have like 900.000 links but only from round about 1000 different root domains. If we put like half of the links on NoFollow our ratio of links/ different root domains gets better. Thanks for answering! Sebastian

SEO Moz Bug? Universal Placements
Had a quick look around and can't find anything relating to this. We are doing really well with our universal placements, google places etc. SEOMoz used to recognise them, but now I have no universal placements according to SEOMoz, though they are clearly all still doing well. But in the program, or problem with the data? Thanks Marc
