Want Your Opinions on Search Marketing Conferences in US
-
If you could go to any search marketing conference in the US in 2014, which one would you choose and why?
-
I would recommend mozcon and distilled events - They are great for networking
-
Whoops! I forgot about that one! One day I will go to that conference - but it would be good if they held it in London too one day.
I'll shift my vote

Hi Brad,
Great question and I'm glad you asked it because I am planning out which conferences I'll be attending this year and trying to decide where to spend the money, just like you
Here's my personal experience and also what I've heard from asking and talking to lots and lots of people:
Mozcon, to me, is an absolute must. It's also great for me because I live in Olympia, so, no need for a plane ticket.
Last year I attended Jessica Bowman's In-House SEO Exchange in Santa Monica. It was a very different event, specifically for in-house SEOs, very small, but VERY worthwhile. If she offers it, I will do it again.
I have heard that PubCon, while probably of value from a networking standpoint, is not the best conference to go and get great takeaways and learn a lot. Basically, I've heard it's a wild party. In all fairness, I've never been. Don't get me wrong, I love a wild party, but given what I've heard I don't feel right asking my company to pay to send me to that one. Maybe if I paid for it myself I'd consider going.
I've heard that SMX West is good, but that SMX advanced is better, particularly if your intending on learning a lot by attending. That's the kind of thing I'm really lookng for, so, for me, SMX Advanced is probably going to become a must for me this year and probably future years.
The one conference last year I didn't attend and that I really regretted missing was InBound 2013. I was following the blog posts and Tweets coming out live from the event and if the atmosphere they conveyed was anything close to what was actually happening, I want to be there next year, really bad.
For me now, the question is: If I absolutely HAVE to chose one (in addition to MozCon and the InHouse SEO Exchange)....would it be SMX Advanced or InBound 2014? Personally, I am leaning towards InBound, but I think SMX Advanced will be an easier sell to my company because it's in Seattle and they won't have to pay to fly me across the country.
What are the conferences you are gravitating towards?

MozCon, July 14-16 in Seattle. Best value, hands-down. Actionable talks from the best speakers in the industry, awesome community, and great venue. Plus, you get to meet Roger. Details, $300 discount here --> http://moz.com/mozcon.

Hi Brad
If I could, but I can't and it would make no sense for me really (as I am UK based) I would go to the SMX conference. Details here: http://searchmarketingexpo.com/east/

What are your opinions on the Google News vs Spanish Government Issue ?
Greg Sterling said: "Governments across Europe are justifiably alarmed by the declining fortunes of their respective newspaper industries. However punitive or parasitic taxation measures targeting Google, masquerading as copyright protections, are not the answer." Do you agree?

Pre-launch market/industry research
I am getting ready to start a web based marketing firm, with a strong focus on local search and b2b organic search engine optimization. However, I want to pick a specific b2b market to focus on when the site goes live. How do I go about conducting this market research when i do not have any visitors to my site yet. My goal is to spot a market/industry that has a gap where my service will be in demand? All of the popular guides and blogs focus on market research that takes place after you launch your website or after you already have an audience to analyze. Any advice or suggestions on conducting market/industry research without having a audience yet would be greatly appreciated!

Best Educational track for internet marketing
My son has a degree in Marine Bio. Has developed a keen interest in SEO and internet marketing. He wants to make a career change. He does not want to go back for a 4 year degree in computer science. Are there graduate programs/degrees that will admit someone with a biological science degree? He wants to have a career in Internet marketing.

Can not get the ranking needle to move even after a year with a US based SEO company
Hello community, I have spent the last 16 months spending lots of money on our USA Based SEO company and on content. For some reason. The powers who may be at Google are not giving us any love. I am beginning to become very dissapointed after all of our efforts. We did have a link penalty a year ago however that has long ago been removed. We have been doing everything our SEO company has asked us but the needle is not moving. Any ideas for us? http://tinyurl.com/n2yoeyn Thank you in advance. Chris

Email marketing - ready to get serious about this
Ok, I have my PILE of business cards from Chamber of Commerce meetings and different networking events I have attended. I have 8-10 blogs that are worth sharing on my website - www.sawwebmarketing.com (I realize that's a pathetically low number) I am committing to and excited about blogging MUCH more starting today! I have a huge list of ideas. I am adding a signup to my site and putting up a pop up to collect addresses. I have 15-18 clients that are paying me for ongoing seo / Internet marketing (or simply had my team build a new site for them) AND AN ACCOUNT WITH AWEBER I HAVE USED ONCE! 🙂 Where do I start!? Any advice? I want to start building a LIST of subscribers and grow my list by sharing great advice, strategies and tips to help people put their website to work. A) Send one email to EVERYBODY (ongoing clients, past clients, contacts who subscribe, website visitors, blog subscribers) or customize my messages for different groups? B) Put whatever I want to share on my blog and share it via social media AND send an email to my list inviting them to check out what I posted so I get the most bang for my time? (LINKS BABY!) I feel like an idiot I haven't got on this sooner but truly ANY ADVICE from somebody who has been there and done it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! 🙂 Thank you! Just want to know if others have seen simliar results with Squidoo's organic visits
I have some old squidoo pages and yes they haven't been tended to as well as my other content that is outperforming it, and yes that could be why. So rather than asking why it is underperforming, I just want to know if anyone else has heard that Squidoo was in line for a spanking, or if anyone else has seen similar organic reductions. That way I know if it's me getting the spanking, or if it's squidoo. Thanks a mil. Tyler

My google site search is now costing us $750/year. That is an outrageous fee for providing a search feature on our website. does anyone know of an effective search box we can put on our site that is less expensive than google?
