Better to publish regular new pricelist articles or update the existing ones ?
-
Hello Moooooooooooooz !
I could not sleep yesterday because of a SEO nightmare ! So I came up with the following question:
"Is it better to release regular new articles or update the existing ones" I explain more.
Our company release regular pricelists (every month new pricelists available for a month, with the same brands. ex: January pricelist for brand A, etc.)
Right now those pricelists are ranking good on google.
So I wondered: Would it better to do:
- Make the pricelist articles stronger: Our company - Brand A pricelist (title) blog/offer/brand-A-pricelist.html (url) -> every month I update the text. So I just have one article /link to work on
- **Make more content on the pricelist: **Our company - Brand A pricelist - January 2014 (title) blog/offer/brand-A-pricelist-january.html (url) -> So google keeps indexing new fresh content
- **Work on a extra category: **Our company - Brand A pricelist - January 2014 (title) blog/offer/brand-A/pricelist-january.html (url) -> So I work on one link over the web blog/offer/brand-A where Google finds lots of new relevant contents
I know that Matt Cutts said it's good to udpate an old article but in this case it's a bit different. Has anyone experiment the same ?
Tks a lot !

Tks for your help ! I'll try different option to see what's the best !

More is not always better. If the "more" information they are able to index involves outdated price lists from months or years ago it would likely do more harm than good.
-
But in this case we'll get less information indexed into google.
In our case we release pricelist with Part Number + description + Price
This is why I'm a bit lost

Hello fupfac,
I would go with one evergreen piece of content in this case in order to consolidate ranking signals, develop more trust over time, allow visitors to use their bookmark of the page for more than a month, not have to update existing links, etc...
I would also 301 redirect the old price lists to the new, evergreen one.
-
Hello !
Tks I'm actually kind of using the 1) but think the 2) will be smarter. Not so easy to decide ... I do think the 2) will be the best but in this case I'll have to always update the creation date.
I'm using a joomla blog to display it actually.

Customer experience is a big factor here. Will it create customer service problems if you get buyers working from outdated price lists. A number of outdated price lists indexed could well cause confusion.
Options:
-
Clearly indicate the validity of the price list and give users a link from every old price list to a single location for the newest price list. This should aggregate link juice to your latest price list.
-
Going forwards, I would just publish it in one place. That means one single page to optimise and update, as well as aggregate link juice. People won't link to your price lists if they're always going out of date. If it's in a single place, more people are likely to link in to them.
Just my approach. Without knowing the actual brand, rankings, keywords etc. it's difficult to be more precise at this stage. And I'm sure other SEOs make take a different point of view as well.
Just my point of view

How to properly spin off a subdivision of an existing company?
An existing client of mine is the parent of a subsidiary. The parent business currently drives traffic for the subsidiary and has been doing so for many years. The subsidiaries owner is wanting to create their own website even though the companies are still in great relationships. So I'm wanting to make sure they don't compete. What necessary steps do I need to take? My one major issue is the address. They both work under the same address and I plan on using a suite number for the subsidiary. Will that work? Even though the parent company doesn't priortize it's subsidary business for SEO, I don't want to drop in rankings and for them to compete. Any knowledge or insight on this would be greatly appreciated! The more details the better 🙂 Thanks!

Is it better to optimise for several keywords/keyword variations on one page, or create sub categories for those specific terms?
I've done a fair of research to try to find the answer to this, but different people seem to give very different opinions, and none of the info I could find is recent! I'm working with a company that produces a range of industrial products that fit into 6 main categories, within this categories, there are types of products and the products themselves. Prior to my involvement most of the content was added to the product pages and very little was added to the overall category page. The structure works like this: Electronic devices > type of device > products The 'type of device' category could be something like a switch, but within that category are 3/4 different switch types...leaving me with 11 or 12 primary keyword/phrases to aim for as each switch is searched for in more than one way. Should I try to rank for all of those terms using that one category page? Or should I change the structure to something like: Electronic devices > type of device > sub-category/specific variation of device > product This would mean creating a page for each variation to have a more accute focus for a small number of phrases..but it also means I've added another step between the home page and the products. Any advice is welcome! I'm worried I'm overthinking it!

Redirecting Old Websites to New Websites
Hi Everyone, We are about to take down a number of websites in favour of a new singular B2B hub and would be looking to redirect all of these sites to the new home. For SEO purposes, what would be the best way to do this? Due to the difference in setups and scale of the site, it would be difficult to correctly match up each page to page between the sites for individual 301 redirects. Could someone advise on the best plan of action? Thanks.

Lost homepage rankings for one day
We had a strange thing happen to our website. We have a website that ranks for top keywords for some years. Last week we lost alle of our rankings for one day. The strange thing was, that the rankings were only lost on the homepage, the homepage didnt rank anymore. Even when i googled for 'homepage.com' google showed 'homepage.com/page' and not the homepage. After some reading i checked for the following: no-index sources in the source code - but no results checked for http respons code - 200 ok status checked for downtime in pingdom - no downtime With no rankings on the homepage i was losing 90% of the traffic, i went to GWT and did a fetch as google request, the website looked okay. After that i request a new indexation request. After this the website was back in google with all the old rankings. But what has happend, is still a question for me. Can this be an hack or a wordpress problem or is this realtime penguin with a hit. I also read things about Google flux, but it didnt happen before and it was just the homepage, with no index at all. What happend?

Rankings Up instantly after publishing new blog article
Hello All, My question is, why did my site rankings go up all of a sudden as soon as I published an article in my blog and it gets indexed (almost immidiately) The rankings increase are the following Keyword 1: from Top 5 to Top 1 Keyword 2: from Top 4 to Top 2 Keyword 3: from Top 16 to Top 3 Keyword 4: from no where to Page 2 (big time keyword) Any ideas or experience on this? When it first happened early this week(i published a new article), my site rankings dropped back after a couple of days. I did the same pattern by pubishing a new article and it went back up again. No personalized result here btw. Thank you

One Business-Multiple Services
Hello Everyone, I was looking for some strategies for doing SEO on a site that offers multiple services. Here is the example: There is one company with ONE physical address. They perform the following services: Pest Control Mold Remediation Home Inspections Waterproofing They also handle these services in several surronding cities. They want to maintain one website for branding purposes. Obviously I will create individual pages on their site for each service but was wondering how diffiuclut it will be to rank one website for these various services. Thank you!
