How do I add event tracking to these buttons?
-
I have two separate events that I would like to track on my site.
[Ask a Question](javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$MainContent$AskQuestionButton',''))
and
I think I would want to use this-_gaq.push ([‘_trackEvent’,’event category’,’event action’,’event label’, event value]); Is that correct? Where would I place it in the button code?
Would this work?
_gaq.push ([‘_trackEvent’,’AskAQuestion’,’Submitted’,’event label’, event value]);The event doesn't have a label or value. Are those left blank?
-
Yes - that's right.
What you should do is implement it - then click on the link and at the same time check your real time analytics report in GA. They've added a new tab that allows you to see your events in real time. So you should see the event being logged as an active visitor on the site.
-
Do I need the quotes around the gaq push all the way to the end? I am seeing some mixed results when I search for that.
onclick="_gaq.push ([‘_trackEvent’,’AskaQuestion’,’Submitted’]); ">

Sorry Niners52
I'm just saying to use the apostrophe key on your keyboard to type the apostrophes. Otherwise you might get an odd character like the second apostrophe which looks like a proper apostrophe - but isn't - and that will throw up an error.
Hope that makes sense.
-
My apostrophes look like the second one how do I get them to look like the first?
-
Be careful if you're copying and pasting from here into your code - and ensure that the apostrophe's look like this (') instead of this (‘).
-
I'll try this. Thank You very much!

Hi
You need to add an onclick event...
[Ask a Question](javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$MainContent$AskQuestionButton',''))
and
but replace 'event action', 'event label' and 'event value' with values you can understand like 'top quote button', 'homepage' etc.

Tracking links and duplicate content
Hi all, I have a bit of a conundrum for you all pertaining to a tracking link issue I have run into on a clients site. They currently have over duplicate content. Currently, they have over 15,000 pages being crawled (using Screaming Frog) but only 7,000+ are legitimate pages in the sense of they are not duplicates of themselves. The client is using Omniture instead of Google Analytics and using an advanced tracking system on their site for internal and external links (ictids and ectids) in the URL parameters. This is creating thousands of duplicated pages being crawled by Google (as seen on their Search Console and on Screaming Frog). They also are in the middle of moving over from http to https and have thousands of pages currently set up for both, again, creating a duplicate content issue. What I have suggested for the tracking links is setting up a URL parameter in Search Console for these tracking links. I've also suggested they canonical all tracking links to point to the clean page so the pages that have already been indexed point to the correct clean url. Does this seam like the appropriate strategy? Additionally, I've told them before they submit a new sitemap to Google, they need to switch their website over to https to avoid worsening their duplicate content issue. They have not submitted a sitemap to Google Search Console since March 2015. Thank you for any help you can offer!

Google Analytics Goal/Event/SOMETHING to show only Wordpress "Posts", not pages, etc
Hi all, Our site is build on Wordpress and formerly the post URL's had the typical date format at the beginning. This made it easy for me to look at, for example, all search traffic to the blog. I would just view URL's containing /2014/ and /2015/ and boom. We have since removed the dates from the URL's with proper redirects etc, which is great, but now I can't figure out a way to look at ONLY the blog in GA. I like to track a KPI of 'search visits to blog posts' and I can't figure out how to now. Can I set up a GA event that only fires when the post type template for blog posts loads? Some other solution? I'm lost here, and there's gotta be a good way to do it...

Does analytics track an order two times by refresh on the confirmation-page?
Hi there,
Reporting & Analytics | | Webdannmark
I have a quick question. Does Google analytics track an order two times, if the user buys a product, see the confirmation page and then click refresh/click or back and forward again?
The order/tracking data must be the same, but i guess the tracking code runs for every refresh and therefore tracks the order two times in Analytics or does analytics know that it is the same order? Someone that can clearify this? Thanks! Regards

Multiple-Domain tracking for sister sites- NO retail checkout- Please help
Hello, I have about 5 sites I want to set up multiple-domain tracking in google analytics. All posts I read seem to be focused on cross-domain tracking for the purpose of tracking a visitor from one domain across another domain for shopping cart check outs. I don't need that. I have about 3 sister sites (mastersite.com, sistersite1.com, sistersite2.com, sistersite3.com) related to my primary site. I want 1 Master Analytics Profile to track traffic for all of these sites combined. My visitors will not jump from mastersite.com over to sistersite1.com. There will be no cross-domain visits. How can I set up 1 master google analytics profile that will aggregate traffic data from all sites and present the data to me in one analytics profile. Please help

What is the best way to track mobile sites in Google Analytics?
Hello! I am wondering what the pros and cons of using the regular Google Analytics tracking code on a mobile site versus the tracking documentation from Google specifically on it found at http://code.google.com/mobile/analytics/docs/web/ which is still in labs mode. Does the mobile specific tracking have the same features as the regular one to be able to track events and report the same statistics? Thanks for the help on this one!

How do you track badges?
I have had some success these days with a couple of badges I have created. It wasn't too difficult for the efforts to result in a bunch of links as they where on topics people are very passionate about. My question is how do people usually keep track of what websites their badges end up on besides watching for analytics visits? There has to be an easier way to know who has used your badge on their website?
