Do random listings effect Google Local Rankings?
-
So my clients business name is "Photojennette Photography" and while researching citations to correct I have found a completely random issue. There's an actress named Jennette McCardy that apparently has a ton of photos on the internet and with that are page titles like "Brand New Photo : Jennette McCardy" and "Look at this Photo Jennette McCardy"
My question is, would Google be sending my listing down because of this? It's completely random and has nothing to do with the business. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jonathan,
While this should not be affecting you locally, yes, there is some chance that this could be affecting organic results if these searches for this person are popular. So, on a local front, no don't worry about this. On an organic front, this is one of those weird things where there are similarities or even synonyms from which Google is drawing incorrect intent.

"What your saying is that you think Google ignores a citation in regards to local ranking so long as NAP is not present. So if it isn't a full citation with Name, Address, Phone, then they likely don't take it into account."
Partially correct, however, local ranking is not exclusive to citations only, but to links, social metrics (here are other rankings http://moz.com/local-search-ranking-factors). Unless you have some connection to those pages other then Photo jennette looking similar photojennette you should not worry about that.

I was saying when I google the company name "Photojennette" because I'm trying to correct NAP for this company to Photojennette Photography instead of just Photojennette, I see a ton of listings on Google SERP with " Photo Jennette McCurdy "
What your saying is that you think Google ignores a citation in regards to local ranking so long as NAP is not present. So if it isn't a full citation with Name, Address, Phone, then they likely don't take it into account.

What I think Jonathan _might _be getting at is, do citations from other sources with partial information (some of the words matching) negatively affect my business' local rankings? (Jonathan is that what you were getting at?)
If that is your thinking, here is something to think about:
-
Major search engines are smart enough to understand a difference between a photo of a person and a business name. 3) Ultimately these two queries "Photojennette Photography" or "Photo Jennette McCardy" have really little in common to cause beneficial relationships or to negatively affect you.
-
Local rankings use NAP (Name, Address, Phone, and Website) of the business to build rank. I would assume a webpage with a pic of Jeanette would not have this citation info, and either way if it did it would serve as a benefit to you.
Hope this helps!

This is confusing!! What you are saying is that photos of Jennette McCardy are appearing in the local citation results? This probably is not possible because ideally it should appear in the Google’s main search results and not in the citation results.
Your local business will appear in the citation section but if you are asking about your main website to appear in the search results for any of the targeted keyphrases then yes you need to compete with others.
If I understand your question correctly!!

Is it still true that when your video is shown in a Google Video Carousel your page is not shown in the normal SERPS?
Hello everybody, I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to invest time in optimizing my video's to appear in the video carousels on Google. I read that once your video is in the carousel, your normal snippet in the SERPS is removed. Is this still the case? Thank you for helping out!

Google instantly suspends Google+ local listing of brand new company
I just tried to create a Google+ listing for a client. It's a brand new company. As soon as I submit the listing, I get an error message: "Google has suspended your page due to quality issues." There is no content on the listing, no website, etc. Just their NAP. All I can guess is their business address or phone number is on a blacklist due to some previous tenant/owner. Does Google keep a blacklist of addresses and/or phone numbers? Any other ideas?

How do you deal with Google knowledge graph showing competitor for a generic query?
Search for keywords like criminal defense lawyer detroit or criminal defense lawyer detroit mi and Google knowledge graph is highlighting one competitor. No maps results are shown. How have others dealt with this situation? I know others have noticed this too: http://www.webpronews.com/sometimes-googles-knowledge-graph-highlights-brands-for-generic-queries-2013-10

Does duplicate content damage ranking in YouTube the same way it does on websites?
I'm asking this question due to the following scenario: When we have videos produced by Third Party video companies they upload the video to their YouTube account before us (the customer), has chance to upload it to ours. If this was an article that was uploaded to the web then the website uploading it first would be classed as the original piece and all other website uploading the article would be considered duplicates and not rank (As I believe). Hence my question, does YouTube work in the same way and hence our videos when searched in YouTube be secondary to our Third Party video companies as they are posting them first? Regards, Tom

How likely it is to rank both locally and organically
I think the question summarizes it pretty well. Did anybody experienced this, to rank for one or multiple keywords in both local and organic search results?

Reasons for store not showing up on Google?
Hi my client has a store which is not showing up on Google search results. E.g. if you looked up store name and store location on Google, all the stores in that particular city show up except one. Also even if you click the: More results near CITY, and State the stores listing still doesn't show up. So for some reason Google has excluded the store from Google search. But if you go to Google Maps directly, and type in the same keyword "STORE NAME CITY" the store is displayed and there. Does anyone know any reason why the store has been excluded from Google search results, but is listed successfully on Google Maps.

Google+ Places Page Showing Wrong Information
Hi There, I have a client who's runs three nuseries (pre schools) A, B and C and has three differen googe+ pages all with different addresses so no problem there. However I noticed that if I clicked on on of them in the Google places account settings listing A would show the details of listing B and not it's own. Thinking this was a glitch I deleted listing A and was about to set up another one. I entered the phone number and it brought up the details to the listing B as sharing the same phone number. Is this is what's causing the issue? Can businesses share the same phone number in the same locality and have two different listings, despite having two different addresses? Kind Regards Neil
