Does font size matter?
-
I have a two-part question:
1. I know that bold and italicized font can help keywords rank better. I have a block of regular text on my site that is really more for SEO than anything else. If I reduce the font size, will it have an impact on the importance of the text?
2. If you reduce the size of font enclosed in header tags, such as, reducing h1 text to 8 px font, does that have an impact on the importance of the text within that h1 tag?

Great information. Thank you.

Hello,
- I think the font size is only important to users (except Black Hat)
- Best practices say that H1> H2> H3, as in newspapers and magazines

As wtih everything, the size isn't what matters. It's what you do with it. Anywhooo...
The CSS attributes should not effect any legitimate style choices, unless the search engines detect hidden text due to size, placement, or color.

I don't know that anyone knows 100% for sure, but I think it is extremely unlikely that font size would have any bearing on SEO. The only place where I could see it having an effect is if you were trying to hide something in a miniscule font - this could get you penalized.

How long does Google take to reduce the index size?
A few months ago, we have incorporated our custom search in our website www.ergodotisi.com . We hadn't been paying a lot of attention to our webmaster analytics, to find out a few months later than the Google Index had grown from 2K- 3K pages to one million because it was crawling all combinations of search filters. We have now followed the right instructions to add noindex meta tags and blocked most search result pages from the robot.txt. We allow indexing of some main categories by setting new seo-friendly url structures. A few weeks have passed and the index size has only reduced to 700K. How long does it take before it removes most of the duplicated search result pages from the index? Is it still crawling those pages but has not fully decided to remove most of them? How bad is this for SEO?

Does <hn>placement matter in the code?</hn>
Does it matter if SEO relevant HTML (such as the placement of an H1) is on line 100 versus 2,000? (Editing to provide more clarity)
On-Page Optimization | | EricSchell
My question is not related to where the H1 is visually on the page (above the fold or below, etc.) its purely a question as to does the line number in the rendered HTML file impact the power of the H1 on the page. As someone with a lot of SEO experience myself, I don't think when a bot is reading the page HTML it cares where the H1 is - just that it exists (and might have a weight above/below fold).0 -

Does the positioning of the text on a webpage matter for search engines?
Does the positioning of the text on a webpage matter for search engines? Do you need to place the text at the upperside of a webpage or is at the bottom also a good option?

Creating a product per size causing duplicate content problems?
I have an e-commerce site and in order to receive a listing for each size and color in Google Merchant, I've created a new product for each size and color. The problem is that since I did this, the canonical tags aren't correct and there isn't a way to change them manually with the platform I'm on. I feel like this is one of the main reasons I've been dropping in the rankings. Should I delete all duplicate products? The system will take care of canonical tags automatically when creating a new size/color within the system (how it's supposed to be created) but the canonical tags become messy when I duplicate a product and edit the size/color to create a "whole new product". Here is an example of what I'm referring to: http://www.carbonconnection.com/search.php?search_query=nalini+rigel&x=0&y=0 (this problem actually isn't mine, it's a friend's but for the sake of simplicity and gaining a second opinion to be sure before he redoes all of his products, I'm asking as though it were my issue)

Custom Web Fonts
If we decide to use custom web fonts - using CSS + linked .ttf files - will there be any sort of issue in terms of being looked down upon by SE's? I realize there would be a slight increase in download time - but other than that has anyone experienced any negative effects?

Does Code Order Matter?
I read/was told that it was a good idea to order your HTML to show the most important content first. So, on many sites I had put my global navigation div, for instance, below my main content div. Does this still apply? And does wise use of HTML 5 mean this is no longer necessary (eg use of "nav" section tag to indicate this section is about navigation). In the same vein, how does Google know that my sidebar nav is my sidebar nav (which your site seems to say is probably given less weight than top nav), and how does it know my topnav is my top nav? Maybe a daft question, but when someone asked me yesterday I realised I didn't know! (Phew - at last I have asked a short question!).

Does it matter if a rel = "canonical" element is added to the beginning or the end of a URL?
I am curious to know if adding a rel = "canonical" tag to the end of a link element will affect its purpose?
