Why does this website not appear ranked on google what so ever?
bit clueless, thanks for any responses!

And make sure you've submitted an up-to-date sitemap
-
I would use canonical attribute to help fight duplicate content and use no-follow on a link basis.
-
You may want to do some reading about using rel-canonical to help with duplicate content issues. Would be much more helpful than nofollow IMHO.
-
Thanks for all the responses, certainly helped me feel abit less stupid!
Just to set the scene, im webmastering a vast quantity of e-com websites, many of these include duplicate content including the catalog etc, which is partially why there is noindex nofollows setup to try and avoid being bashed by PANDA.
Im not sure as to the history, il check out the historical page data later, see if it ever has been indexed, potentially could have been penalised as part of the PANDA rollout.
We have to set nofollow on some of the links and noindex because there is masses of duplicate content relating to the products/catalog side of things. The majority of the content i want index'd is just on the homepage, so If i just set the robots.txt to index for the homepage, i think this should ALLOW google to rank the website, when they can create some backlinks.
Thanks again guys (wishes he had enough dollah to keep his pro account!)

I would agree with having issue with robots meta and robots.txt. I also do not see any link to your Facebook or Twitter page?
You need to start promoting your site, if you have not started already. Get onto Facebook, get friends to sign up, and share post. Start tweeting products. Get into some directories, and comment on blogs that are relevant.
I would put a Facebook LIKE and a ShareThis share chicklets on each product page so people can start sharing with friends.
I don't see Google Webmaster tools installed? Google Analytic? Google WM will allow you to submit your XML sitemap and adjust your crawl rate.

The sites use of the robots meta tag may be a major cause of the issue.
The below is the robots tag on the homepage. This is telling search engines to index your homepage but not follow any links to interior pages.
The below is the robots tag on a random product page. This is telling search engines to not include the page in their indexes or follow any links on the page.
With the odd exception the majority of the robots meta tags should be set to the following. This is telling search engines to index the page and follow the links on the page to interior pages.
Once you have sorted this out I would:
- Set up Google Webmaster Tools and submit a sitemap
- Attempt to build some links
Good Luck

These are all good points. And I agree, you should remove the index, nofollow.
There's a good article on nofollows here

I have a few thoughts for you:
1. How old is the site? It will take some time for Google to index it, so if it's a brand new site then it may take several weeks (or even longer).
2. You have no external backlinks. This is how Google finds sites - when other ones link to you. It's also a major factor in how you do well in the search engine ranking...having other sites link to you tells Google that your site is worth looking at.
3. Why do you have your metarobots set at index, nofollow? The nofollow will mean that when Google crawls your site it won't follow any of the links that you have out from that page. I'm not sure, but it's possible that this tag has set up some sort of a flag for Google to say that something fishy is up. I think, but I'm not sure...that this would prevent internal linking of your pages as well, which is quite important.
I'd love for some of the more seasoned pros to comment on the use of index, nofollow.
Another question - has your site ever been in the index? If it was in the index before and now has dropped out then there may be a penalty.
p.s. I love Dorset..my family is from there...need to get back to visit some day!

Hi Ewan,
Google might not have found it yet. Is the site new? I have good success putting a link to the new site page somewhere that I know google reads such as one of my established blogs or twitter or facebook. On some blogs, I have seen google index a page in less than 20 minutes after the post. You might try that.
Best of luck - Ken

We switched the domain from www.blog.domain.com to domain.com/blog.
We switched the domain from www.blog.domain.com to domain.com/blog. This was done with the purpose of gaining backlinks to our main website as well along with to our blog. This set us very low in organic traffic and not to mention, lost the backlinks. For anything, they are being redirected to 301 code. Kindly suggest changes to bring back all the traffic.

WWW to Non-WWW = Less Indexing?
Hi all, About 10 months ago we changed all of our urls to redirect to a non-www vs. the www because it was creating both iterations and therefore duplicate content. We didn't change anything in Webmaster Tools and it looks like our indexing went down significantly. Is this a problem? How can I fix it? *It looks like GWT also went through an update at that time? klxJ7gl

Does the order of results from "site:www.example.com" tell us anything?
Does google rank in order of page authority with "site:www.example.com" or is it random? As most of the results of the first 6 pages for our site are internal search results pages ( eg www.example.com/search/product-results)

The fact that search results are index at all is frustrating, they are not linked to internally or externally. The open site explorer does not have any back links for any of the search pages, and I checked the submitted site map and no search urls are submitted, so I don't know how google are finding the search urls. Also tested some of the search urls with aherf and no back links. But since its ranking the search pages ahead of the category(landing) pages with "site:" has me worried that not only are they indexing the urls, but they giving them higher page authority0 -
To 301 redirect or not to 301 redirect? duplicate content problem www.domain.com and www.domain.com/en/
Hello, If your website is getting flagged for duplicate content from your main domain www.domain.com and your multilingual english domain www.domain.com/en/ is it wise to 301 redirect the english multilingual website to the main site? Please advise. We've recently installed the joomish component to one of our joomla websites in an effort to streamline a spanish translation of the website. The translation was a success and the new spanish webpages were indexed but unfortunately one of the web developers enabled the english part of the component and some english webpages were also indexed under the multilingual english domain www.domain.com/en/ and that flagged us for duplicate content. I added a 301 redirect to redirect all visitors from the www.domain/en/ webpages to the main www.domain.com/ webpages. But is that the proper way of handling this problem? Please advise.

Duplicate Content based on www.www
In trying to knock down the most common errors on our site, we've noticed we do have an issue with dupicate content; however, most of the duplicate content errors are due to our site being indexed with www.www and not just www. I am perplexed as to how this is happening. Searching through IIS, I see nothing that would be causing this, and we have no hostname records setup that are www.www. Does anyone know of any other things that may cause this and how we can go about remedying it?

Url canonicalization: www. to http://
Hey there. Sorry for the simple question but I recently redesigned a site and published with WordPress, in the process the domain structure changed from being www. to http:// . My question is does this change affect the value we get from links pointing to the old www. domain structure? The reason I ask is that the old site had a domain authority of 36 with OSE and a couple of hundred links but the new site address shows as having zero domain authority and zero links. Is there some best practise I should be following to retain link value?

Severe Drops in Google UK rankings
Hi Guys, I'm Chris - SEO Noob & appointed website man @ www.customdesignedcable.co.uk I signed up to SEO moz at the end of February and i have slowly but surely been trying to implement the on-page optimisation suggestions with my selected keywords against the appropriate pages. Since i have done this, our pages are still ranking but no where near what they were at before. Out of 70 keywords, we've gone from at least 60+ pages on the first page down to 20+ and the number in the top three has dropped from 55 to 33. Obviously i'm no seo guru far far from it but all of the changes that have been suggested i have adhered to and the result is the exact opposite of what i was hoping for and expecting. I'm after some advice as to how to use seomoz to target my keywords to google primarily to get these page rankings back. Should i just upload backup copies of the site? How would you suggest that i move forward to try and achieve at least similar rankings to what i had previously? Any help is much appreciated as most of our enquiries come from the internet and it has almost completely dried up these last couple of months. Thanks Guys! Chris. P.S. Would redesigning the site look, layout and feel with the same content negatively affect seo? Also, as a completely separate question, how come sites with content that is a lot worse than ours rank higher for the same keywords as ours? Thanks Again

Www vs non www and understanding opensite
Hi Guys, New guy here with some questions regarding the difference between www and non www. I am helping with a site at the moment and gradually working my way through bits and learning all the time. I was watching one of the seomoz videos and it brought my attention back to www vs non www. I understand that google will treat these as two seperate sites but wanted to check what the stats are telling me. I was under the impression that www.mydummysite.com was getting most links etc as this is what I have always used. However when I used Opensite explorer it told me something different as follows: www.mydummysite.com 32/100 29/100 5 16 mydummysite.com 32/100 29/100 2 1,500 Am i correct in saying that i should be adding a redirect from www.mydummysite.com to mydummysite.com ???? I am thinking that this is telling me that I am potentially missing out on 1,500 links to my site but it could mean I am missing out on just 16. Eitherway I guess its something I should fix right? Do I just redirect that page or would all pages beneith it such as mydummysite.com/news also need redirect??? Can i use Canonical Rel links for this now? Thanks for taking the time to read and reply! 🙂
