Any good ideas on how to quickly rank a new site for a new product laucnh?
-
Hi,
I'm thinking of examples like the wii u - when it was announced all wii u sites were new. what ways could one get an edge quickly when competing against other sites without a great deal of authority on this 'new' keyword?
obvious ones are social bookmarking, what else could easily be used to quickly (<24hrs) at least help a bit in non competitive kws?

You could also use AdWords for immediate and broad exposure.
-
You are talking about socially explosive content. An example would be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtrboPeilCk&feature=player_embedded
You need to create content that will attract a huge amount of social attention. The content would need to be Facebook liked, Google +1'd, tweeted, voted up on reddit, etc.
You are looking for a magic bullet. This is the only one.

What Happens If I migrate my Sandbox free website to a new domain? Will my rankings be affected?
Hey Mozzers! One of my sites recently got out of the Google sandbox period (cause it started to rank for keywords) but the problem is the old domain sounds kinda uncool. I then found a new domain with a very cool name so I want to migrate my old site to the new domain. So my question is will it affect my rankings on Google? Or will my new domain be sandboxed for another year? Please help me out fast.

Knowledge Graph product carousel: The mystery of ranking
When you search for software-related terms, Google serves a carousel-style item above the organic listings. I've been assuming this is part of the Google Knowledge Graph. See http://imgur.com/a/TQpM5 The mystery lies in the selection of companies that are included in this carousel: the brands included are completely unrelated to the brands that rank well in the "normal" organic search listings. Giving that more color, here are the top 5 brands in "normal" organic search listings, for the query "invoice software," noting where they appear in the carousel: BRAND // normal organic search position // carousel position Wave // 1st // not present in carousel Quickbooks // 2nd // 1 NCHSoftware // 3rd // not present in carousel Invoicely // 4th // not present in carousel Freshbooks // 5th // not present in carousel Inversely, here are the top 5 in the carousel, noting where they appear in the "normal" organic search listings, again for the query "invoice software": BRAND // carousel position // normal organic search position Quickbooks // 1st // 2nd Zoho Office // 2nd // 9th Invoicera // 3rd // 15th Hiveage // 4th // 30th Apptivo // 5th // not present in first 10 pages of search results Here's an annotated image of the same thing: http://imgur.com/a/0Pa6j

--I represent a brand (I'd rather not mention which) that ranks super well in the normal organic search listings, but doesn't rank accordingly in the knowledge graph carousel. WHAT WE'VE TRIED implemented Schema markup updated Wikidata information updated Wikipedia information We've reviewed the code on the pages that DO appear in the carousel, and haven't found any common threads. Several weeks have passed since those initiatives. We've been re-indexed in that time, but are still not included in the search carousel. I've seen people suggest resources like this
https://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2299454/4-google-carousel-optimization-tips
but those tips aren't addressing this problem. Also, things like claiming your business or other local business validation (which we've done) don't seem material to a non-local product search (but stranger things have happened, I know...). A couple of SEOs have suggested AMP, but I've yet to see any authoritative info suggesting a link between AMP and desktop results. Any help appreciated! I will report back on my findings. This is a follow-up to a question I previously posted here: https://moz.com/community/q/kinds-of-organic-search-results-google TQpM5 0Pa6j0 -

I noticed it on the 1st of October 2012 - that all my rankings disappeared - i filed a reconsideration request w google and i got this - No manual spam actions found. I have no idea why my site would have been subject to an algo change which made my rankings completely go away - i have not used spam, not used any kind of linkbuilding. Can you guys look at my site and see if you have any ideas: http://tinyurl.com/9a5k38u Thank you, Cary

Should I Do On Site Optimization For A Website That Will Get A New Design
Would it be wise for me to start implementing onsite optimization changes on a website, such as the changing urls, adding in keywords in meta tags, meta descriptions, etc if the website is about to get a totally new design. For example if I wanted to change the url structure and onsite optimization features would the changes still be on the new website.

Should we introduce subfolders into the URLs on a new site?
A site we are working on currently gives no indication of the subfolders in the URL. Eg. the site uses: www.examplesite.com/brand-name Rather than: www.examplesite.com/popular-products/brand-name There are breadcrumbs on site to show the user what part of the site they are in and how they navigated there. We are building a new site and have to decide what route to take: Since the site is already performing relatively well in the SERPs and the URLs are nice and short this way, is it a good idea to keep them like this or is it better for usability to include the subfolders? This post suggests that we would be best off to keep the URLs as they are - particularly since less would be changed http://www.seomoz.org/blog/should-i-change-my-urls-for-seo Thanks in advance for your opinions! Mobile site ranking in desktop searches
A robots.txt file is properly implemented on the mobile site to block Googlebot from crawling, yet, when running a site: query for the site in google, it still returns over 104,000 pages from the mobile site in the index. Why could this be happening?
