Why is this Page Ranking for such a competitive keyword?

I have a question, I am hoping someone can help me understand. I am looking at this URL: http://goo.gl/BkSish
...it is ranking for this Keyword: POS Systems
Now, this seems to be a pretty new URL, with few links being generated to it, as seen here:

QUESTION: Can someone help us understand how or why this page is ranking so well, so quickly, for such a competitive Keyword? Thank you!

The result set for this query is very interesting, lots of diversity in query intent: you have have definitions, brands who specialize in pos systems, reviews of pos systems, and brands who have pos systems, but whose primary focus is not the pos system itself.
While the Shopkeep page you linked to does not have the most links or highest authority of the pages in the first page of results, it is the strongest domain from in the 'brands who specialize in pos systems' category noted above. My hypothesis is that Google believes the primary user intent for the query is to purchase a pos system, therefore, is giving favor to the most credible brand whose business appears to focus primarily on pos systems.
If you look broader than just the page in OSE, you'll see that 'shopkeep pos' is the second-most used anchor text for inbound links to the whole site, representing a total of 29,145 links from 91 different domains. This would support the above hypothesis that Google finds the brand to be highly credible for pos systems because it is so often used alongside the brand name.
Hope that sparks some ideas for further research!

Massive rank drop on one particular keyword
As all other marketeers do I follow closely my keywords, one particular keyword has ranked continually at #2 and has suddenly dropped to +#60, but all others remain the same. Should i rank for one tail keyword or long tail keywords
Hi guys, for example i run a coupon site and would like to rank for the brand keyword ASOS, should i just rank for the long tail keywords for example "ASOS discount code" instead of just "ASOS"? even the traffic for ASOS itself is MUCH higher than ASOS discount code? And the relevancy of ranking at "ASOS" is fine too because is somehow relevant? would ranking long tail helps with one tail keyword too? And assuming that i am already on the second page for the keyword "ASOS" and knowing is not hard to be page one. should i just rank the one keyword?

Off-page SEO and link building
Hi everyone! I work for a marketing company; for one of our clients' sites, we are working with an independent SEO consultant for on-page help (it's a large site) as well as off-page SEO. Following a meeting with the consultant, I had a few red flags with his off-page practices – however, I'm not sure if I'm just inexperienced and this is just "how it works" or if we should shy away from these methods. He plans to: guest blog do press release marketing comment on blogs He does not plan to consult with us in advance regarding the content that is produced, or where it is posted. In addition, he doesn't plan on producing a report of what was posted where. When I asked about these things, he told me they haven't encountered any problems before. I'm not saying it was spam-my, but I'm more not sure if these methods are leaning in the direction of "growing out of date," or the direction of "black-hat, run away, dude." Using Canonical Tags to Boost Lead Form Ranking
I presently have a number of whitepapers that bring traffic to our site. If a visitor elects to download the whitepaper they are taken to a lead form with an abstract of the whitepaper. The abstract is present because the visitor may or may not have come to the lead form directly. I imagine this would be a "no no," but how do you feel about placing a canoncial tag on a whitepaper that points to the lead form w/ abstract? The obvious idea being to take the umph of a whitepaper to direction search visitors directly to the lead form.
