How is an SEO's time best used?

We have over 50 highly varied and niche sites in our company. Each website is for an annual event spread across the calendar.
I am the solo SEO person here and was wondering what your opinions are about what would bring in the greatest SEO power in my limited daily allotment; link building? Keywords? Content?
Oh, and to make my life even easier - its all based on SharePoint 2007!

Since you are ranking well already. I would think that the linkbuilding is not "urgent" - especially if the people doing the searching are highly interested in the event and are likely to visit more than one website.
My first priority then would be to define what content should be on these sites? What is "the minimum"? What would be "ideal"? And, what would be "kickass"?
Once I have that I would get "minimum" on every site then start to get "ideal" everywhere. Only then would I try to get links if the links that I am trying to get are given on merit.
I would try to get "kickass" content on the sites that are most important or the ones that face heavy competition.

The search volume isn't very high - maybe globally in the thousands according to SEOMoz's Keyword Difficulty Tool.
We rank high generally in the SERPs for the important terms.
From all of the answers here, and obviously knowing how things work in my company, I'm leaning heavily towards focusing my energies on link building with a secondary focus on creating new content.

Is there genuine search volume for these events and if there is how do you rank in the SERPs for the important terms?

We have:
little content, (I am working on fixing that)
few competitors in this, an exceptionally niche market
some inbound links from .edu and .gov sites but nothing astonishing
Basically I can only do actions to all or none of the sites as they theoretically receive the same level of attention from me.

Luckily our keywords are quite niche but content is difficult to get hold of because of this speciality. I'm going with linkbuilding and social media on this one!

I agree, before you do anything it's best to take some time and asses your current metrics, statistics, rankings, etc in order to determine where your most time should be spent on SEO.

First, spend some time auditing technical aspects. Be sure you're not "getting in your own way" by doing something technically unsound (duplicating page titles, robots.txt problems, etc).
I also suggest dedicating a majority of resources to content. It would be helpful to know a little more about the nature of your sites.
After content, I would dedicate the remaining resources to link building in the form of getting your best content in front of the right audiences. That's your most efficient shot at acquiring new links, shares, etc.

If I was going to allocate company resources in response to an answer to this question I would want that answer to be based upon good and complete information. Needed for a good answer is an evaluation of your content, evaluation of your competitive position, evaluation of your inbound links, evaluation of your current SEO and more.
Any answer that is given without these evaluations is a guess and could direct you to spend time/money where it will not be effective. Also, the answer will probably not be the same for each of your sites.
So, instead of giving you an answer that could be really wrong my advice would be to hire someone who can spend the time needed to provide a good and competent answer.

I would focus on creating a stream of unique valuable content on your website, the reason why I say content is because of the following:
- More Content on website helps increase Domain Authority (Links to a better job of this)
- Good Content can be linkworthy (acquire links organically)
- More content gives your website more opportunities to gain the longtail search traffic
Obviously try to use your ideal "keywords" that will convert your traffic into customers or leads for whatever you are selling or promoting.
Depending on how much time you really have for SEO, Linkbuilding should be a priority, without links you are not going to gain the ranking and traffic you would want to have.
So here is how I would rank your priorities for SEO:
- Keywords
- Content
- Linkbuilding/Social Media

Magento 2.1 Multi Store / SEO
This is quite technical but I'm hoping a Magento expert can clear this up for me. Currently my company has two websites on separate Opencart platforms. What I'm doing now is building a Magento website and using the multi store function as well as a few modules to combine the two sites, the aim being that the link juice is shared and I can focus my SEO efforts on the one site instead of two, thus reducing my workload while maintaining the benefits. This is the intended layout: www.domain.com www.domain.com/us I have created a sub-folder (not a subdomain) as this seems to be the best way to share link juice between the new, combined sites (as well as 301s from the old, redundant site). At the moment I have created 2 separate websites, stores and store views (see attached) and have configured it according to the Magento guide, so I know that technically this is correct but I need to make sure that I have done it correctly in relation to SEO. Is the sub-folder set up correctly for instance? Currently the only files to populate that sub-folder are a htaccess, error log and index.php (see attached). Also, is there anything I could be missing in relation to SEO within the parameters of what I am trying to achieve? Additionally, only one store view appears in the "change store view" section of the home page. This is causing me to question if I have set it up correctly, because I had assumed both store views would appear even if they were under different websites (attached). OR do I simply use the same website and create two stores and store views? Do I also need to create a separate database for each website/store/store view? Have you changed 100's of links on your site? Tell me the why's, the how's and what's!
Hello there. If you've changed 100's of links, then I'd like for you to contribute to this thread. I've created a new URL structure for a website with 500+ posts in an effort to make it more user friendly, and more accessible to crawlers. I was just about to pull the trigger, when I started reading up on the subject and found that I might have a few surprises waiting for me around the corner. The status of my site. 500 posts 10 different categories 50+ tags No Backlinks No recent hits (according to Google Analytics) No rankings. I'm going to keep roughly 75% of the posts, and put them in different (new) categories to strengthen SEO for the topic which I'd like to rank multiple categories for, and also sorted a list with content which I'd like to 410. Created new structure created new categories Compiled list of old URLs, and new URLs New H1, Meta Title & Descriptions New tags It looks simple on paper, but I've got problems executing it. **Question 1. **What do I need to keep in mind when deleting posts, categories, and tags - besides 410, Google URL removal? Question 2. What do I do with all the old posts that I am going to re-direct? Each post has between 10-15 internal links. I've started manually removing each link in old posts before 301'ing them. The reason I'm doing this is control the UX, as well as internal link juice to strengthen main categories. Am I on the right path? On a side note, I've prepared for the 301'ing by changing the H1's, meta data and adding alt text to images. But I can't help but to think that just deleting the old posts, and copying over the content to the new url (with the original dates set) would be a better alternative. Any contribution to this thread would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

How does adding ecommerce to a site affect SEO? What are the negative and what are the positives?
We are thinking of adding ecommerce to our website as a service to our customers. We generate most of our leads through online quote requests but heard that it may be beneficial to our SEO if we add ecommerce for a few products. Is this true? Does anyone have tips on best and worst SEO ecommerce practices?

Time On Site and SEO?
Does time on site impact rankings? If a person visits your site from the serps or directly visits it by typing in your name in the search field and then leaves within a minute, will that impact your serps? What is the best way to increase time on site?

Usual time to index and rank a new site
Hi Just wondering if anyone knew how long it usually takes for a brand new site to get indexed and ranked? I launched a new site about 5 weeks ago. So far I have had 96,000 pages indexed but the majority haven't ranked particularly well or appeared. The ones that have ranked aren't ranking high even though they have better content than competitors sites... And my old domain. Do I just need to hang tight and wait till my domain authority improves? Is there anything I can do to speed up this process? cheers

Will my site structure provide decent SEO?
We have an ASP.NET MVC website with a view that can dynamically display each product we offer. The product name is hyphenated in the URL, and this is what we’re using to pull the product from the database. So an example URL would be: http://www.mysite.com/Products/Florida/Sample-Product-Name We have another view that dynamically lists the products offered for each state. This page would contain links to the URL for each product offered in that state. The URL for Florida would be: http://www.mysite.com/Products/Florida We want to make sure that when we enter a new product into the database, the product is indexed by Google the next time our site is crawled. I know that Google will crawl through the links in our website, so the new product should get indexed as long as we have a link to it. In this case, the link will be on the view that lists the products for the corresponding state. I have 2 questions: 1) Is my understanding correct that Google will index the product page as long as it can find a link to it somewhere in my site? 3) To get Google to index each URL for content that is generated dynamically from a database, is having links in my site for each URL the only way to do it?
