Home Page SEO and city specific targeting?
-
From What I have read you should target one keyword for each page on your site with the exception of the home page. Is this correct?
If the most searched keywords for a Dentist in the area are
Dentist "city name"
Cosmetic Dentist "city name"
Family Dentist "city name"Should you try and add content on the home page with h1 tags of each of these? If so then what about the page title/url
Also if you are targeting keyword Dentist "city name" but like 4 different cities, should you have a separate page for each of this cities and then if so would that not be duplicate content with the exception of city name?
Thanks

I was checking your website and your on-page optimization. I would like to start with a recommendation. For tablets you don't need to force the visitor to view the mobile version.
As for the seo, the website needs some good improvements. Start by changing all the meta titles and the H1 tags.
As for the issue with the cities, is best to have other internal and external links pointing to those pages. You could keep them at their current location or give them a more prominent position in the home page.
Ps. Wrote the above and then realised that you are redesigning the website. That would make things easier. Yes do add the locations in the home page since is something your visitors will want to see first!

Thanks, makes sense.
Right now he has under the proudly serving tab about 5 cities, just trying to figure best way to structure when redoing site. Thanks

To address your issue I would like to give you an example:
if you go to www.google.co.uk and type in car insurance you will find that the first two rankings are using an nearly identical meta title. I have taken the first one which is:
"Compare Cheap Car Insurance Quotes at Company Name"
The above website is ranking for this keyword with an inner page (not the home page). With this "one page" it is also ranking for the bellow keywords:
- compare cheap car insurance
- cheap car insurance
- car insurance
- compare car insurance
- car insurance quotes
- compare car insurance quotes
- etc
My point is that, one page may rank for several keywords, depending on the difficulty and the combination you are going to manage to "enforce" in a nice marketing kind-of way!
Now to your question, yes like the above example you could rank to all those keywords with your home page, since the "cosmetic" and "family" are sub-keywords which could complement the main keyword which is "dentist "city name"! To achieve this you will need to write content in your web page that talks about cosmetic dental issues or something (use it as an H2) and take a similar approach for your family sub-keyword.
If you are targeting several cities, then your Home page should not focus on one city but at the general practice. The only issue is that it will take longer to achieve rankings.

SEO Optimization for Sales Page
Hi, I am new to eCommerce. Traditionally I have run a couple of semi-successful websites relying largely on Adsense revenue and affiliate income. So I have a bit of experience with on page and off page SEO. This time around I am creating a membership site and also sell eBooks as bundles that non members can buy. My question is, should I SEO optimize the sales page for my eBook or use another content page that links to the sales page. For example, if I am selling an ebook on Dog Training and targeting the main KW "Dog Training Tips", should my sales page be optimized for "Dog Training Tips"? The reason I ask is because typically Sales pages do not provide a lot of useful information but are more geared around selling the product. The other option would be to create a helpful information page targeted for "Dog Training Tips" and lead users to my sales page through contextual links, banners, popups (I hate popups), etc. This would be the approach for the other LSI keywords anyways. Any thought would be appreciated.

Multiple silos/products/landing pages. How to design the root page for conversion?
Hi everyone, First post. Tried a few awkward searches on the topic but I must be using bad keywords. I'm re-designing a site that has multiple products and matching multiple audiences. This means we have multiple sillos for multiple groups of keywords with the supporting pages for each silo landing page. Currently I'm working on updating the look and text of those landing pages for each silo to increase conversion. This leaves me with the root web page. We get quite a lot of search traffic from people searching our brand name - so this results in clicks straight through to our root domain. There are no product specific landing pages because it could be any one of the 3-5 different personas we have hitting the site from that source. Does anyone have any good examples of where a site has had multiple products and needed to segregate their audience on a root top page? I'd like to see some examples and hear peoples thoughts. At the moment I'm thinking I need to fill that page up with trust factors as to why people should use us as a company, along with navigational elements in relation to each and every product so they can click through to the proper landing page. The main way I can see on executing that is to have a rotating banner with the same tag line "this is what we do" but be alternating between banners relating to each product.. with their own click through button to go to the respective landing page. Thoughts anyone? Example of sites doing this well?

What is the recommended practice for badges and seals on the home page.
What is the recommended practice for badges and seals on the home page. They are currently at the bottom of my nav. menu and thus appear on every page. i have them nofollowed but does that still consume page rank. Is it best to get them on to the footer lower on the page or to perhaps not to have them on the home page and place them deeper on the site.

References and SEO?
Hi Everyone, I am really new to the SEO world (having come from paid search), so if this is a stupid question, I apologize. I noticed in Webmaster Tools that the top 25 keywords or so that Google thinks my site is about are keywords pulled from our references pages. Our site has a ton of authoritative content, most of which have corresponding reference pages with overlapping sources. Is this a problem? I am a little concerned that the keywords Google thinks are the most relevant to my site are really the least relevant. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks! nina
