A huge spike in traffic, mainely from social and organic

Hi there,
We see this huge spike in traffic to our home page for almost a week now.
When I check the source I see a crazy spike in Facebook traffic (25,630% change!!), Twitter and organic. The spike in traffic is to our home page alone.
The bounce rate is much higher than avg. and time on page is shorter. Also, no. of new visitors to the site is higher than average.
The traffic is obviously low quality and is hurting our site's statistics.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

My second thought is perhaps someone has scraped your GA code and has it on another site? Are you using Google tag manager or do you have the GA code right in the source code of your website? Can you check http://spyonweb.com/ to see if any other websites have your GA code on them?

No drilldown available from that point unfortunately.
I can see specific social pages that refer to other site pages but that is our "normal" traffic, while the problem here is low quality traffic (you can see the bounce and avg. time on page) in huge numbers going to our home page.
I have searched the social networks for brand mentions (I also use Mention for this) and nothing extraordinary came up.
This type of traffic is very unusual in every aspect - the huge numbers, visits to home page only, bad quality signals and the fact that it goes on for a few weeks now. Our activity on social couldn't have bring something like this, plus it also seen it the organic traffic.

can you go in even further, showing the Facebook pages/profiles that refer to you? Have you searched for your website, business name, name in Facebook and Twitter? Have you promoted a #Hash to social media or anything?
Maybe start by searching in the Social Media networks to see if anything comes up.

Unfortunately it didn't reveal anything (to my understanding) as the referral path of this mass traffic is '/'.
I have attached a print screen so you will be able to see all the numbers.
Any ideas on this one?

- Go to Acquisition -> All Traffic -> Referrals
- Click secondary dimension
- Type "Referral Path" and select that.
- You will now see the full URL path of each referring domain.

As to the referring Social Media users / pages, where can I find this data?

Whats (Other) traffic in Google Analytics?
When I look through all our clients, a few are receiving the majority of their traffic from (other). [ Acquisition > Channels > (Other) ]. The only option in (other) is "website" or "offline", whatever that may be. And even weirder, the avg session duration is 0:00. Any idea what this may be?

Tracing Performance of Individual Social Media Posts
Hello Moz community, I have an Analytics question. Is there a way (using the social media APIs or otherwise) to track performance of individual social media posts to generate monthly reports? We list lawyers on our directories for people to find. We also share the lawyer's information on our social media posts. I'd like to be able to generate a monthly report letting the lawyers know what we've done for them on social media pages. I'm thinking....we can identify a social media post by the URL inside the text of the post (IF URL_Inside_Page =Lawyer-Profile-Page_URL Then). Does "not provided" affect the referral traffic data?
There is a discrepancy between what an referring site is showing as clicks back to my site versus what Google Analytics is showing. For example - They are stating that their site sent 100 clicks to my site. The GA data shows 25 referred clicks from that site. Could this be due to the "not provided" that hides most of the keyword data?

We lost great amount of Google Traffic. Need Expert Advice, Please!
We are in the business of selling home and commercial light fixtures for about 10 years now. Our website is a very large ecommerce website with more than 40K pages including category, sub-category and product pages. We have been getting decent organic traffic mostly from highly competitive keywords and also from product/solution specific long tail keywords. Recently when Google changed the EMD algo we have seen a dip in the traffic (say about 60%). I can't be so sure that this is because of EMD update, but it started happening only after this update. There has been a rank drop from 1st page to 2nd page, decrease in no. of keywords driving traffic, decrease in no. of pages driving traffic, all these things have an negative impact on our organic revenue. I know that our back link portfolio is bad and the reason behind this is the SEO companies that we previously worked with, Thanks to them for this sloppy work. Has Anyone Else Noticed A Jump In Google Analytics Traffic Since Session Parameters Were Changed?
Ever since Google Analytics changed their session parameters August 12th I have seen a 20% jump in organic traffic & bounce rates along with a decline in pages/visit and conversion rate. To be clear, I don't put a whole heck of a lot of stock in these metrics as stand-alone indications of how my site is performing. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this blip. I noticed some other people mentioned a similar phenomenon in other SEO forums and blog comments, but nobody seems to be talking about this here at SEOMoz (unless I just haven't looked in the right place). I'm not saying the change I noticed has anything to do with the session update, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar so that I can either cross it off the list of possible causes or explore further.
