Value of links within related articles sidebar
-
Hello,
We have recently developed a related articles shortcode which we use on our wordpress sites. It allows editors to pull in links to x 3 related articles within their article which then appear to the side.
I wondered if anyone is able to help advise about the link value of the links included within the related articles widget - i.e. will it carry the same link value as links within the copy? All I can see that's different is that the links are in an
<aside>tag - is this going to make a significance difference do you think?
Thanks for any help,
Rachel

The search engines probably value these links in some way, but nobody outside of the search engines nobody knows exactly what their value might be.
In my opinion, it is essential to have these types of links on your pages. They decrease bounce rates and help engage visitors.
If you go to almost any of the most important news sites you will see links to their related content in the side bars and immediately below their articles. You will even see them within articles. They are often accompanied by interesting images, beautiful images, provocative images, all to get your attention. These content blocks can direct visitors to related content, most popular content, most shared content and serendipitous content.
Some websites even make money by displaying links to content on other website using services such as outbrain, taboola, and others.
Promoting your own content in this way is a very important thing to do. Promoting the content of others might be a good idea to make money, but it might be a better idea to promote your own instead of giving your engaged visitors to other website for a few cents.

It should not matter if you link directly from your content or from your related article widget. Both links should carry the same link value as long as both have the same opportunities regarding, anchor text, link title etc..
Regards,
Danne

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

Domain Authority and Page authority for external links. What's the difference in value?
Hi Guys. I understand the difference between page authority and domain authority in terms of how likely that page is to rank. But what about a links from a high DA site, but from a low PA page? We’ve identified a client with extremely high DA (73/100), but their blog page has a PA of 1/100. Would a link from this page be pretty much valueless due to the low PA? Or would it still be quite strong as the DA is so high? Perhaps you could point me to some good reading or Moz post on this topic? Thanks guys. Isaac.

Does This Link Have Value?
Hi Mozzers, A client paid to publish a white paper, thinking that the link to the web site is beneficial. The link does redirect back to the web site, but is in a format that I've never seen: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001YdyyLrzOQJxM87SJZkJYVbQKSdCmFpwqg1fuX3yqVqpGboUjdSaHv9IdW5HsQpgmvwOrg5N4T3DNHYV8e1UVe_YCua_XQCFykoSJvu1HzDyb-3x-aFcPU-ER-vwWxq4- Does this link have any value?

Is a reciprocal link the same value as a non-reciprocal
So I just started a few weeks ago doing some linkbuilding for my photography site at http://danielvaladas.com I started by adding my site to some of the business directories recommended by SeoMoz + some local and specialized directories I found myself and from my competitors. I also sponsored a local charity in exchange for a link on their PR3 website and I wanted to blog on my site about this sponsorship. I am wondering if it is better to link back to them or not. Is this one way link of more value if I don't link back to them?

Do you get linkjuice from a dofollow redirect (Like Yahoo! Article links)?
I've recently hired a company that publishes my press releases for me. One of them is on Yahoo! Finance. When I went to the Yahoo article, my keyword link was dofollow, but had a very long Yahoo redirect link instead of just a direct link to my page. Am I still getting link juice out of this Yahoo redirect?

Link values
I have an interesting question, it's more to see other peoples opinions than looking for an exact answer, as I know noone can give that. If you had a good link on harvard.edu.. how many very low quality links on low DA domains that are full of junk, would you need to match the harvard link... if all other factors were equal. I'm gonna go for 500.. I've had great results with a few high DA/trust links. I'm not looking for anyone to give me a definative answer, just curious as to the views of other SEOs 😄
