Analytics conversion tracking?
-
Hi
One of our clients has a hotel chain currently which currently uses an online booking system which is from a third party. We are keen to set up conversion tracking to track the number of bookings made however are we able to do this if the URL destination is not on the clients website? Or will it be a case of just tracking the number of people who click the link to go to the third party payment site?
Kind Regards

Thanks for the help guys, ill pass this info on to my developers and get this implemented.
This seems like a more solid way of doing it and will avoid the issue of cart abandonment

You can ask the booking site to fire off a javascript ecommerce tracking code that will add the tracking info to your analytics. You just need to set up cross domain analytics tracking - https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingSite

There are a couple options for this, and you'll have to dig a little deeper in order to find which one works for your client / third-party combination.
Some third-party ordering systems allow you to carry over tracking variables or tracking code into their system in order to measure the conversion from their software into your analytics. You'll also want to add their order system back into your analytics as a non-referral visit or else you could be seeing inflated referral numbers.
Another option is to make sure the third-party is using a confirmation page on your clients domain, that way any visit to that page is counting as a conversion (and you're not getting inflated numbers from cart abandonment).
That should give you a few options. Ideally the third party should have documentation and support on how they can best deliver conversion results. Cheers!

Tracking Product Codes
Hey Mozzers, We are improving our B2B site by adding product codes to headings & meta information etc to gain some traction ranking for our own products and those supplied by others when searched for by product code. Almost immediately we are hitting the top half of the first page for most of these and seeing some nice results. We would like to track our placement for these product codes in google but feel this would be a waste of our Moz Keyword limit and we really dont need to check them once a week, just one a month or so. Has anybody got any methods of tracking our ranking for a a big list of keywords say once a month which isn't too labour intensive? Many Thanks

Hi there, I want to track the repeat buyers on my ecommerce. In order to do that, I am going to create a custom dimension on Analytics. The custom dimension will be called "repeat_buyers" with scope user because I want to track the user over time. Is my assumption correct? How would you you set it up? When I have this dimension, I would just apply the default metric transaction on my reports. I don't have experiencie on custom dimensions so I might be totally wrong. Can you please help? Thanks and regards

Uptick in not tracked conversions / anyone have a list of things that google analytics will not track
There seems to have been an uptick in users on our site not being tracked in Google Analytics cause I see a lot more un-tracked revenue in the last 6 months then I used to. I know analytics is still working as it has been tracking a normal amount of visits but I assumed there might be a reason less would be actually showing up in analytics (mabye a change is what is being reported as organic). I know a lot of stuff goes into "not provided" such as logged in search and stuff like that but is there a list of all of the ones that go into not provided and all that just do not get tracked (javascript not enabled, iOS?). If it could be something else as well let me know. Thanks for the help!

Tracking SEO tests
Trying to get some best practices on testing SEO changes. We are going to make a bunch of changes on subsets of pages. Say testing about 5 different on-page changes. Originally we were going to submit separate Sitemaps to GWT and see if our test sets get indexed, how quickly, etc. But we noticed that GWT says some pages in our Sitemaps aren't indexed even though we know they are (what gives?). So we thought, for each test, let's put a unique code on the page so we can see how many get indexed by Google. But that doesn't solve the issue: how many people clicked on our test pages. So we are thinking of putting a tracking pixel on the test pages, specific for each test. But then I am thinking, why not just create a separate Google Analytics profile and place that code on the test pages (set up goals to track visits per test since we aren't going to change the actual URLs). and on and on This is where you come in. What kind of tracking do you implement when you set up tests? Advice appreciated! E
