Do you think Google +1 can hurt rankings?
-
More on established B2C sites (not blogs/forums)? For example, a client has the #1 ranking for the kw with the highest exact match volume in their vertical and sitelinks. Is it better to keep things status quo and not give Google the data or potentially introduce a new signal to Google that might be negative if CTR is not high enough?

_ Is it better to keep things status quo and not give Google the data or potentially introduce a new signal to Google that might be negative if CTR is not high enough?_
If you don't add it, the signal could look as a 0 to Google (no social sign of life)... that could be finally worst than having few +1.
I think that we have to forget SEO has it was since few months ago, and start thinking SEO-Socially. SEO and SM are getting closer, and surely Social Signals are playing a big part in the rankings, directly or not.
What is sure, is that if you have a great site, with great contents that answer to users needs, has all to gain with the social sharing.
So, yes, start play the social game. But don't fall in the opposite risk: to forget traditional SEO tactics, because they still count a lot.
The philosophy is that Search Marketing has become a wider playfield, with more tactics and web marketing disciplines that influence it. The real secret is to create a coordinated internet marketing strategy and stop thinking one tactic at the time.

The bottom line is you are going to be evaluated by social signals whether you provide the social sharing widgets or not. Users can tweet and send social signals for pages that do not offer the embedded buttons. It just requires a bit more effort on the user's part.
I would recommend getting ahead of the game. Set up the buttons now and make the adjustments to where you are naturally earning social recognition. Offering the social sharing buttons to users and not receiving likes/tweets/+1s is not necessarily a signal that your content is not good. It may be the buttons are not well-placed on your pages, or the color/style is not attractive.

If you have a great site with sitelinks adding the +1 will more likely reinforce your position than detract from it.
Imagine what might happen if your competitor has a lot of +1 signals showing and you don't.
I think that this is all part of the SERPs "arms race".

Google+ author tags and product descriptions - Can we author tag it to protect it if its custom written?
Hello Google+ experts We run a eCommerce (magento) site with ~140 different products. We manufacture all of our own products and therefore the product descriptions / content is written by us for us, however there are smaller operators that can scrap it, adjust it and use it on similar products. Can we author tag our own custom product descriptions or will goggle not like this? I have read a hand full of blog about author tags v's publisher tags, and most bloggers state that eCommerce product pages should not author tag as content is normally generic product spec information. Our product content is fresh, custom and written by a real author it's similar to a blog post so why can't we tag it to protect it? (The descriptions include a product - Overview / Benefits / Suggested use) If we do Author tag it will Google spank us and damage our SEO or because it fresh and custom advance are SEO?

Authorship without Google+ - Ideas and strategies
Hi everyone, I am currently coaching several companies on Content Marketing, Authorship etc and how to implement these techniques at an institutional level - more here. My question is - Can an author reap the benefits of authorship in all search engines simultaneously without linking to Google + and becoming entangled in the Google Circles phenomena? I know don't laugh. 🙂 I know it seems like an ignorant question, but there must be a way. Is there a possibility of doing this with Author Schema's http://schema.org/Article? Will Google treat them the same way as Google +? My clients are not happy about getting so entangled with Google + and leaving out the other search engines. Thanks Carla

How do you believe Google's +1 service is going to affect SEO? What can we do?
So Google just announced the +1 button, which is there answer to Facebook 'likes' button: http://searchengineland.com/meet-1-googles-answer-to-the-facebook-like-button-70569 http://techcrunch.com/2011/03/30/google-plus-one/ They should begin showing up now on Google US. If you aren't seeing them, you can turn them on here: http://www.google.com/experimental/ I want to know? What affect do you predict these are going to have? Is there anything we can do from an SEO point to begin leveraging +1 right from the outset?
