Service Area Landing Page Q&A
-
Good Morning,
I was wondering if some one could help me out with some questions I have regarding how to make my service area landing pages rank better. A majority of them are on position 11 right now, and I feel like there might be a few minor things I might need to do to make them rank better.
1.) Meta Description -
If I'm writing a meta description should I use an exact match for the keyword?
Something like "Hire us to do your dry cleaning in Topeka, Kansas today."
Or would I write "Topeka Kansas is in luck. We offer the best dry cleaning around" (I know this stinks from a call to action perspective, but it's the best example I could come up with off the top of my head).
2.) File Name -
Would I make the name "topeka-kansas.html" or would I make it "dry-cleaning-topeka-kansas.html"
3.) H1 -
should this be exactly the same as the title, or at least very close to it?
4.) Youtube Video -
Would putting a youtube video on the page act as a relevancy signal to Google?
5.) Images -
How many images would help on a landing page?
Does having original images help more?
6.) Length of Page -
Does the length of the page word wise help at all?
7.) Anything else -
What other tweaks can I make to a landing page to boost its rankings?
Thanks!

Hey Charles
I would recommend reading the following resources:
On-Page Factors (Moz)
Meta Descriptions (Moz)
YouTube Ranking Factors (Moz)
SearchMetrics Ranking Factors Study 2014 (Moz & SearchMetrics)
Google My Business (Google)
Verify a local business on Google (Google)Reason being, you're kind of asking broad and loaded questions (and that's totally fine!), and you're going to get so much more out of the above information than getting direction on one off questions. All of the above have great information and will help you moving forward. If you have any questions or comments, let me know! Good luck!

How to rank a product page
Hello, I have a product page and just did a little introduction ( 5 lines of text) but I have the feeling this is not enough for google. What is the solution ? Is it to increase the amount of content even though it is not going to be user friendly ? Or will google look at the product page I link too and take into account the content on those subpages to boost my "pillar / product page". Thank you,

Too many on page links
Hi I know previously it was recommended to stick to under 100 links on the page, but I've run a crawl and mine are over this now with 130+ How important is this now? I've read a few articles to say it's not as crucial as before. Thanks!

"No index" page still shows in search results and paginated pages shows page 2 in results
I have "no index, follow" on some pages, which I set 2 weeks ago. Today I see one of these pages showing in Google Search Results. I am using rel=next prev on pages, yet Page 2 of a string of pages showed up in results before Page 1. What could be the issue?

What to with an event page that is over?
Hi, We participated in an event and it is now over and therefore it has to be removed now. I was thinking of writing a blog post about the event and place a 301 redirect on the page enlisting the event's detail and registration process. Would it be a good idea or should I do something else? Regards,

Rich Snippets Ratings For Q&A Discussions, Articles,
Hi, I'm looking for how I can use a star rating for a q&a discussion or article/blog post to achieve a rich snippets search result. I'm thinking about a user rating for "Was this helpful?" 1 to 5 stars. As I look at schema.org and do and other reading on it, it looks like it's possible to rate only a set group of content types, blogs and discussions not included. However, I've seen rich snippets ratings in SERPs for blog posts, like this example https://www.google.com/search?q=erp+implementation+challenges&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=panorama+consulting+blog&client=firefox-a&hs=gId&hl=en&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&ei=QmCBUYLLCOfwiwKHhIAQ&start=20&sa=N&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45921128,d.cGE&fp=eb2f15e2a98a4631&biw=2144&bih=995 On page, it looks like they used some simple span tags. So, my question is, which content type category does that fit into for rating and is that strategy safe enough going forward? Also, are there more steps to making this work? It it is okay to have users rate the helpfulness of a discussion or article and get rich snippets, I'd kinda like to do it. Best... Darcy

Why are new pages not being indexed, and old pages (now in robots.txt) remain in the index?
I currently have a site that was recently restructured, causing much of its content to be reposted, creating new URL's for each page. To avoid duplicates, all of the existing pages were added to the robots file. That said, it has now been over a week - I know Google has recrawled the site - and when I search for term X, it is stil the old page that is ranking, with the new one nowhere to be seen. I'm assuming it's a cached version, but why are so many of the old pages still appearing in the index? Furthermore, all "tags" pages (it's a Q&A site, like this one) were also added to the robots a few months ago, yet I think they are all still appearing in the index. Anyone got any ideas about why this is happening, and how I can get my new pages indexed?

Microformats & Microdata
Hi, Does splitting data apart using microformats & Microdata, help Google better understand your content and in turn could be used to increase relevancy? O and does anyone know if it's supported across major browsers.
