Client rebranded with a new website but can't migrate now defunct franchise website to new website.

Hi everyone,
My client is a chain of franchised restaurants with a local domain website named after the franchise.
The franchise exited the market while the client stayed and built its own brand with a separate website.
The franchise website (which is extremely popular) will be shut down soon but the client will not be able to redirect the franchise website to the new website for legal reasons.
What can I do to ensure that we start ranking immediately for the franchise keyphrase as soon as the franchise website is shutdown.
We currently have the new website and access to the old website (which we can't redirect)

Thanks for the question.
Where does your client currently rank for the franchise keyphrase? If you rank well on page 1, it shouldn't be too difficult to push yourself a bit further up once the established website has gone.
However, it really depends on what happens to the domain of the franchise. It may be closed down by there still be some form of holding page / parked page which means it stays in the rankings for a while. Do you know what is going to happen to it?
On a related note, is there any chance you could acquire the domain?
In terms of what you can do. Here are a few suggestions:
- Make sure the brand name features prominently in your on-page SEO elements and internal links
- See if you can realign links that are pointing to the franchise site and see if they will point the links to you instead - if the franchise site is closing down, this could work very well and if you can make the anchor text the name of the brand, it should help your rankings
- Make sure your company name and citations / local links are all using the company name correctly

A way to get a quick result is with an Adwords campaign. Create a landing page for people who are looking for the website that is gone, and explain how your website is filling that niche. In the meantime, keep building your organic presence. [Easier now, without the big competition.] After people have learned to come to your website, you can back off the paid search and refine your organic approach.

Immediately is a bit of an over projection but what I mean is rank for it before the search term for the franchised restaurant returns to mediocracy.

Migrating Subfolder content to New domain Safely
Hello everyone, I'm currently facing a challenging situation and would greatly appreciate your expertise and guidance. I own a website, maniflexa.com, primarily focused on the digital agency niche. About 3 months ago, I created a subfolder, maniflexa.com/emploi/, dedicated to job listings which is a completely different niche. The subfolder has around 120 posts and pages. Unfortunately, since I created the subfolder, the rankings of my main site have been negatively impacted. However, I want to ensure a smooth migration without affecting the main domain maniflexa.com rankings and losing backlinks from maniflexa.com/emploi/ pages. Is moving the subfolder content to a new domain a viable solution? And how can I effectively redirect all pages from the subfolder to the new domain while preserving page ranks and backlinks?

Why isn't there a browser tab title AND meta title?
Personal opinion; as a user, it makes sense for me to want a full 50+ character meta title which displays in a search engine that helps me determine if I want to click that link AND a concise browser tab title that tells me which page and brand I have open. As a search engine, I would (possibly wrongly) suppose that having one more piece user-facing of information would be helpful in understanding a page and that page's relation to the rest of the website. Duplicate Content Errors new website. How do you know which page to put the rel canonical tag on?
I am having problems with duplicate content. This is a new website and all the pages have the same page and domain rank, the following is an example of the homepage. How do you know which page to use the canonical tag on? http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php http://medresourcesupply.com/ Would this be the correct way to use this? Here is another example where Moz says these are duplicates. Do you get links from new websites?
There's a new industry specific website that looks decent. It's clean and nothing spammy. However, it's so new it's DA is under 10. Is it worth pursuing a link from a site like this? On one hand, there's nothing spammy and it is industry specific. On the other...it's just DA is so terrible (worse than any of our other links), I don't want it to hurt us. Any thoughts? Ruben

New Website. Changing TLD or not?
Hi, At my company we are making a new website because the days of the old one are numbered. We already decided that the folder structure will be changed so we have more "clean" url's. Now we also would like to change from .net/nl to .nl . Since we already are redirecting all url's (>10.000), we think this is the moment to switch the TLD. What do you guys think? Website layout for a new website [Over 50 Pages & targeting Long Tail Keywords]
Hey everyone, We are designing a new website with over 50 pages and I have a question regarding the layout. Should I target my long tail keywords via blog pages? It will be easier to manage and list and link out to similar articles related to my long tail keywords using a word press blog. For this example - lets suppose the website is www.orange.com and we sells 'Oranges' Am I going about this in the right way? Instead do you think I should build static pages? So in the long term term which is more beneficial? Do you have any suggestions on if I am going about this the right way?
