Links / Metadata around Recent Posts etc in Wordpress / Blog - Good SEO Practice?

Hello
In a Wordpress blog ( or part of an ecommerce site that runs under wordpress ) it is good to show recent posts in the sidebar on most pages.
Obviously the posts aren't going to be relevant to every post , so my questions are:
- Is having these on the page hurting SEO for the page?
- Is there good metadata structure to put in there? ( like rel="nofollow" or similar )

Hi Marty,
I don't think this will hurt your SEO, but I'd think of this more in terms of user experience and your goals for the website.
For instance, if the site is primarily an ecommerce site, perhaps driving traffic from the money pages to the blog is not advisable. On the other hand, if brand awareness and the blog are a big part of your overall strategy, then maybe driving traffic to recent posts makes more sense.
For user experience, recent posts may not be relevant to all pages like you mentioned, so you have to make a judgement call regarding how many pages they will provide value and how valuable they will be on those pages vs how much value they take away on other pages where they aren't as relevant.

Guest Blog post best practice considering time/energy
Good morning Moz community 🙂 What do you guys think would be the best practice as a starting blogger offering guest articles to other 3rd party blogs when it comes to building up my own website's SEO points (assuming I have a link in the guest article to my website). 1. If I have the opportunity to post the guest article on two+ different blogs, should I go for it? -OR- 2. Only post the article on one specific blog and write a different one for the others? In a world with unlimited resources, the latter option would prevail, but considering that it takes time to write, what would you recommend if I am trying to build my websites SERPs? Carlos

SEO Effect of Outbound Links
Greetings MOZ community: What is best practices when it comes to creating outbound links to other websites? Will adding such links improve the MOZ domain authority of my site? How many outbound links should be added to each page? For example I run a commercial real estate web site in New York. About 20 pages are written about neighborhoods. If several outbound links are added to each neighborhood page, and these links point to pages that provide further information about that neighborhood, will my neighborhood pages where the links originates from see improved ranking (or ranking potential)? How to Have Flat Navigation w/out Diluting Link Juice
I have a client with a very flat navigational structure relying on a menu with CSS hover dropdowns using simple items to get to just about every page on the site through the main navigation on every page. They want this ability to remain. The issue is stat is send link juice all over and does not concentrate into pages that are key search landing pages. I don't want to "no Index" "follow" the less important pages since there are some brand related long tail searches that I would want these pages found. These are useful pages to consumers who are already engaged with the brand, but not ones we would not care to rank for outside of branded search. If there was a way to have some links be non-crawled via javascript (or some other method) and those that are more important use a more standard html type link that would seem ideal. Does anyone have a suggestion for menu tool or technique for exposing to consumers all the links to consumers but restricting google bot's path while being in line with Google Webmaster guideslines? Client has been COPYING blog posts to wordpress.com for years. Now what?
Just discovered my client has been copying all her blog posts over to her wordpress.com blog account. So she has duplicate content to what is on her site. She has roughly 700 posts on her main site but doesn't look like that many on the wordpress site. There are no inbound links coming off the wordpress site that I could find. Advertising links hurt SEO?
I'm working with a publisher who said that having DFA links on his site will hurt his SEO. He is taking my link and pointing it back to his site and then to mine. Does that sound right to you?
